    Thank you.
Isn't 1.52v too much for your 45nm CPU?
Most ppl give Vtt 1.45v, vcore 1.40v and 1.2 HTv 1.40 or something like this, with much less GTLrefs.
    Did you try similar settings?

    CPU GTL:+110
    NB GTL:+110

I thought those high values are only good for 65nm Quad Core CPUs.
Now I see they work with 45nm too.
Mine is 65nm. I also need too much vcore at 420FSB even if I keep a low multi.
    I don't understand why.

Yer I dont even have the GTL's over 50 for 3.8GHZ on my 65nm Quad...

I ran similar high voltages on everything else, it was great, for a little while...
Soon one of my mosfets melted down, probably due to the crappy heatsink
more than excessive voltage, but still, I did end up with a huge hole
melted into the PCB, and a board replacement was need. Mind you that took 5 months.

I suggest doing something about the mosfet coolers and NB/SB cooler
seperation if your going to overvolt alot.

    Start from 0 values
Slowly raise the FSB until you get no boot.
Now raise CPU GTLREF at 10
    Then try CPU GTLREF -10
Go on trying the rest GTLREFs.

Your CPU might be good with extreme cooling but crap with normal cooling.
Try it yourself on a "proper mobo", then get yourself this "proper" mobo in case you like it.
    Hi,

Thanks for the settings. Some guys at another forums thought that 1.4 VTT would kill my CPU. Anyway, last week I bought a DFI LanParty DK X48-T2RSB and I could easily OC my QX9650 to 3.8 without fiddling for days with the voltages and it was stable when I tested for 17 hours with no errors. And I ditched the Formula for a while.

Today I got an E8500 and thought about giving the SIIF another chance. And the SIIF seems to like it MUCH more than my QX9650. Maybe I could test it again with two Ultras

Hello there guys, my first post here and what a great thread, just what I needed .

Over the past week I've been reading into overclocking and I'm a novice and have downloaded programs including prime95, orthos and so forth to test the stability of my computer when overclocking. When I first bought this rig which I have in my sig with the exception of the velociraptor which was purchased only a few weeks ago, I have overclocked with the aid of the provided settings asus gave. It has been like that for pretty much a long time sitting at 3.00 ghz which was great and did it's job. Only recently did I want to reach 3.2 ghz but to achieve that I had to do this manually which I thoroughly understand. I've been fiddling around with the FSB, Volts but to no avail. The highest clock I reached only came to 3.13 which is ever so close to my target but not quite there. Before I went to work I ran prime for an hour or so and it seemed fine with temps reaching 60 degrees which is okay. I proceeded to leave it on while I went to work which is a good 9 hours or so. I came back and the computer had restarted resulting in a prime fail. I've now lowered the FSB QDR Mhz to 1380 which is stable it seems with prime running for around 6 hours, (yes I've read prime should be ran for a minimum of at least 12 hours before its deemed stable).

I previously over the last few days have tried to get to 3.2 by using the following FSB timings

.1423 FSB QDR which is 355 fsb
.lowered the multiplier to 8 so FSB QDR equates to 1600. Or 200 x8 multi

I've also changed the voltages accordingly I hope to a point where I felt it shouldn't need that much to achieve 3.2

Anyways I think I've made all of you guys all fall asleep reading this but I hope you can help me to achieve 3.2 prime stable.

Oh I also forgot to tell you the FSB values I added into the bios only resulted in the computer rebooting and not getting past the posts in the lcd display most of the time and sometimes the monitor would not even switch on while the computer was.

Here is my current bios settings for 3.1 stable.

Please feel free to criticise and point me in the right direction as 3.2 is all I want from my Q6600, don't really want to max out my cpu. Please dont forget I am an absolute newb to this overclocking business. Yeah just want to get this over with and then the missus will be happy as I seem to run off after dinner and onto the comp till late after work these past few days trying to get that elusive 3.2.

well i just recived my striker 2 formula rma back from asus and it seems like much better quality than the one i originaly got. my first one only had a back plate on the nb and no spring screws the back plate just flopped around never got below 90c. on the new one the north and south bridge both have back plates and spring screws i removed heatsinks and heatpipes applied artic silver ceramique. now i am awaiting my q6600 rma and mem rma will post back when i get them and let every one know my temps and how high i can get my q6600 to o.c. last time with my overheating nb i got it up 3.2 stable maybe i can get 3.5 that would be nice do you think i would be better off just buying core 2 duo for this motherboard or what dont know will post back monday or tuesday when cpu and mem gets here

Thanks mavro Triton for the recommendations. I followed everything you told me however I think my set up just does not like 1440 fsb qdr at all . I stumped up the cpu volts to from the lowest all the way to 1.73 which I did not feel like carrying out any further. I still got stuck with the same post on the lcd stating (MP INIT). It just somehow would not even get past the bios at all and I kind of bailed seeing the amounts of volts I was putting through the bios. (just was not willing to put the motherboard through any more stress, and i'm sure I can get 3.2 without anywhere near as much volts going through it SURELY)

So I've since lowered the voltages to 1.42 and notched the nb bridge up 1 option to 1.68 and sb volts to 1.55.

I can get into windows with the computer at 3.15 which is an improvement and thanks for the heads up, I've learn't a little more on my quest to overclock to 3.2.

So 3.15 isn't too shabby is it. i ran 3d mark 06 without any hiccups at all but when I tried prime, it failed. After 15 mins of prime the 4th process stopped. then I left it for an hour after that and it had totally stopped. probably have to up the cpu volt up a further few notches to get it stable.

From this can you see any problems with what I have now and can you suggest anymore options I could try out without putting up so much voltage. I'm a little disheartened but not gonna stop until I get there

    Thumbs up

what is your temp ? did you try sync i know you ram will run kind of low put its a start and what model of ram do you have spec and voltage requierement : After 15 mins of prime the 4th process stopped. then I left it for an hour after that and it had totally stopped. probably have to up the cpu volt up a further few notches to get it stable: your probbably right 15 min is not a bad start its mean that you have great chances to achieve that goal watch your temps and up the voltage by notch
and try 8x400 at the same settings i juste give you because 1600 fsb is nothig you shouldn have a problem..... and no problem bro keep up

My current temps are fluctuating between 38-42 degress atm which is okay. I'm going to invest in a Thermalright true black with a pusha nd pull config around christmas.

My ram is Corsair xms2 dhx pc6800 running at 1066 atm.

Should i try syncing the fsb and mem ddr mhz. with the fsb u suggested in your earlier post?

And should I also try the mem ratio's out too?

Actually I think I'll try syncing them with the current fsb qdr at 1400 and see if I get an improvement in prime or will that be totally voltage related?

ok the point is that you ram is only pc6400 did you test memory test to be sure you ram is okay because its runnings at double it's rate try you should try sync mode should give you better result try to lower the ram like unlink and at 800mhz just to see any improvement i most think that the problem is the ram did you try blend mode in orthos or prime

Okie dokey ill give unlinked at 800 mhz a try bud

On a good note I've achieved 3.2 and was able to run 3d mark 06 with no probs so far. I took into account that you could change the multiplier and have it on 7 x 456.5 which equates to just under 3.2. Its stable for the moment and have lowered the voltages down in increments and it now sits at 1.57.

So according to everest (dunno if this program is accurate but i bet its better than asus ai suite).

    CPU core 1.57
    CPU VTT 1.46
    CPU PLL 1.68
    NB Core 1.57
    SB Core 1.60

    Dimm is at 2.20
    Dimm VTT 1.10

Temps wise I suppose its bearable but as you said I'll have to keep a close eye on it. Hopefully once I have the Thermalright True it will lower the cpu temps by a few degrees over my zalman.

    Temps

    Motherboard 43
    CPU 42
    core1 49
    core2 49
    core3 45
    core4 43

    SPP 67
MCP 70 (im guessing thats the voltage regulator on the board. The heatsink in between the IO plate and the CPU). Correct me if I'm wrong

    Thankyou very much Mavro Triton.

I'll post back and run prime I think its PI check or something that I need to download to check the ram.

do you have a spare fan that you could put right on the middle of the nb because 70 is beginning to be to hot try to keep it under that and trust everest for all voltage but dont trust it for the cpu voltage because there's a vdroop and everest dont read it well use cpu-z please .. for the rest its all good:pm MCP is on the middle of the board where there the r.o.g light under the cpu for testing the memory use memorytest on bootable version just burn it on cd or use orthos great for cpu stability a well for the ram : small fft ist for cpu testing stability and small fft: is for the ram stability
    link for orthos http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm
    link for memory test http://www.memtest.org/
    link for cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
and use realtemp for temperature everest and coretemp dont read it well http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
you dont have to give more then 1.52 to the nb
danm 2 8800 gtx i been true that and its getting heel of hot pretty fast put your 3d card fan to 100% please

Hi ang good day to all!
I have E6850 and Striker II Formula (BIOS 1501). Can anyon share BIOS voltage setups for overclocking up to 4.0Ggh?
I already hit 3.6 stable with 1.425 Vcore in BIOS (NB-1.36, CPU Vtt-1.28, all other AUTO).
    Loadline calibration enabled.
