Nope, I simply can't stand beer, eventhrough I come from the country that practically invented beer I hate it. Light Beer, Dark beer, "Cut" Beer, flavoured water as coke, buy me a beer and you'll get a present ... nice dagger handle in your back

Finally the new installer works for me. Looking good with Core 1,15 - no more of those terrible lags and decent PPD (5500 on my 8800 Ultra, still need to properly OC it tho). Count me in (again)

After returning to my comp, it shows 6098 PPD with the new client - good old Ultra

Are there major PPD differences between the projects?

Do you run fahmon? If you don't, it's pretty handy as it stores benchmark information for the diffrent projects. I haven't gotten a project I had before the core change so I can't tell yet but it seems faster ( if only because I want it )

    Project : 5512
    Core : GPUv2 Gromacs
    Frames : 100
    Waardering : 430

    -- 9600GT --

    Min. tijd / frame : 2mn 41s - 2307.58 ppd
    Gem. tijd / frame : 2mn 42s - 2293.33 ppd
    Huidige tijd / frame : 2mn 42s - 2293.33 ppd
    R3F. tijd / frame : 2mn 42s - 2293.33 ppd
    Eff. tijd / frame : 2mn 45s - 2251.64 ppd

    Project : 5800
    Core : GPUv2 Gromacs
    Frames : 100
    Waardering : 480

    -- 9600GT --

    Min. tijd / frame : 1mn 46s - 3912.45 ppd
    Gem. tijd / frame : 1mn 46s - 3912.45 ppd
    Huidige tijd / frame : 1mn 53s - 3670.09 ppd
    R3F. tijd / frame : 1mn 53s - 3670.09 ppd
    Eff. tijd / frame : 1mn 50s - 3770.18 ppd

The diffrence is big enough but mostly for projects with the same 'worth' they tend to give simular ppd.

Ya I do run FAHmon, pretty handy (that's where I read the PPD).
Just tried to raise shader higher, but got errors in ATITool. GPU was at 85C though, so I put the fan to 100% and voila.. 1728 shader 20min stable.
Oh well, I really need to mount that wtaerblock I had on my GTS (fortunately it fits both card types, Watercool FTW). 45C loaded instead of 76 with fan on full speed should help some more.

Yeah well, it's a new Ultra actually. Had 3 of them for a Tri-SLI setup for a customer a while back, before GT200 was released. One card was broken, so I RMAed it. They took their good time, and when they sent a new one back, it was 8 weeks past and the new cards were here, makiing the Ultra pretty much worthless. 500€ down the drain.

Since I couldn't get a good price for it any more, I said what the heck.. sold my GTS 640 (which was a Vmodded A3 that ran 780 core/1900 shader BTW ) and kept the Ultra. Still fast enough on XP x64 (no DX10 anyway) and my 24". Hell, I played Crysis on my pimped-up GTS in 1920x1200 all on high, so who needs new cards anyway

Did you look at which section you're posting in?

We're a Folding At Home team, we lend our cpu's and gpu's to an university which runs proteine folding simulations on them to help understand and ultimately cure deseases like Alzheimer, cancers, huntington and the list goes on.

    Guys,

    me again
Got a different OS now (server 08 x64) and a new vid card.. HD4870X2.
So I gave the whole GPU folding thing a new try... set up systray client with FAHmon, so far so good. It takes around 6-8% CPU time on one of my Quad's cores, way better than with XP. Also there is no sluggishness while surfing the web now.

However, as always, I can't get the stupid client to start on the 2nd GPU. Following the official multi-GPU guide, I set up 2 different folders in C:\Users\bla with the modifiert shortcut and all, but when I want to start the 2nd it just says that the GPU isn't supported.

I do NOT have a 2nd monitor attached to the card, nor do I intend to get one. Is that why it doesn't work? Because I'd need to connect both DVIs so both GPU cores work with folding?
PPD rating is ridiculously low anyways.. what's up with that, still all NV optimized? FAH really needs to work on that.

Vista absolutely has to have the 2nd monitor or a dummy plug with the desktop extended to it. For some reason X24870s are tougher to get 2 clients running on but people at F@H are doing it. I've seen ppd reported as high as 8K

8k is still ridiculous for this card, and not worth the 300W power drain this card has, even if it works.
I think I'm gonna wait for them to improve.. or maybe for WCG to finally make use of the GPUs.

Did you measure the 300w power draw? Just curious, seems people tend to use the max draw from the manufacturer of max draw while gaming which are not the same as power draw when using fah on it. About the dummy plug, afaik you can use an old tvout cable to initiate the other display as well ( atleast I know for sure on Nvidia this works, not so sure about Ati ).

You're not alone though with the complaint about Ati's powerdraw while folding compared to Nvidia so I guess it's not even a matter of having the numbers exactly right but more about it being so much less efficient
