oh man did i pick the best day to be home sick. when i saw those Bionc benches with HT on i literally had a brain meltdown. and from my experience (back in the glory days of P4) turning HT on just murders your scores. and bionc does not just use one core when benching. it will peg all cores for a few seconds and then just the first one for another few seconds so HT on will drop your scores a ton but will add PPD and results per day like crazy.

that just sealed the deal for me Dave! Core i7 920 for me and hopefully a 965 and 920 for my buddy at all around the same time imagine how much 3 Nelly's all coming on at the same time would boost your scores

    thanks man! fantastic read!

I read somewhere that this is a new implementation if HyperThreading, too. It's not just the same old thing pasted into a new design. This one is supposed to be a lot better.

Seriously, AMD are gonna have to pull the Titanic out of their butt to top this thing!

Yes, it's nice. But in order to be worth it for the main rig, I'd say you need to get at least 4,5Ghz if you are to replace a current >4Ghz Core 2 Quad in order to see a big enough difference. Remember the costs are pretty huge, and will probably be for some time.

Costs, shmosts. I can't afford a regular quad. I might as well not be able to afford a fancy one, too. since I won't be getting either.

My Q6600 might be on for sale soon... it's a pretty good one, even without the phase unit
It does 4Ghz@1,42V on water easily. Interested?

    Some more info:
First WCG bench at 3733 with HT disabled and I have to clear up a mistake I made.
The first WCG bench I showed with HT enabled was at 4023mhz not 3733 as that is the speed the machine is running at.
Then 2nd a look at what Nelly is doing in her first full day working..

If either of you guys are willing to sell and ship CPU, cooler, mobo and RAM to Australia for $100 (max I can get my hands on, and I'd have to borrow that) then PM me. Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath.

Well, current estimated value of my Q6600 + DFI X38 with waterblocks + 4x1GB Cellshock 1000C4 D9GKX is somewhere in the 400-500€ range I'm afraid
Anyway, back to topic, this is not f/s after all (yeah I know I started it )

It's not a matter of what things are worth. I KNOW that stuff is worth way more than that. My point is, I DON"T HAVE THE MONEY.

... and while you're ragging on our prices, don't forget the exchange rate. One Aussie dollar is worth about sixty US cents right now.

Just use cpu's to heat your water, and make a fence out of radiators or something. lol

You're missing the point. I was talking about the difference between HT on and HT off, just like MM in his original post. He claimed to go from 20.000 to 30.000. That is just impossible.

And I seriously doubt 43.000 a day with a quadcore Nehalem. More like the 20.800 @ 3733Mhz that MM showed in his first post. Please prove me wrong if you can.

That would mean that HT on and HT off would be equally efficient. Which is also very impressive by the way. I was suprised in the first place that HT on (processing 8 threads simultaneously) was actually faster than doing 4 processes at one time. If anything you would expect a drop from turning on HT. But then again, I'm noe xpert on the subject and I would like blauhung to chime in for instance.

I'm getting kinda confused here guys...
I agree with v0dka, according to completion times, it shouldn't generate more than 20-25k/d in WCG depending on clocks. Because finishing times are nice, but nowhere near close to what 30- and 40k systems do. I should know (Dual E5420 @3,2Ghz: Average 34k/d, HCC completion 3:17 for 8 WUs - Dual X5450@4Ghz: Average 42k/d, HCC completion 2:44 for 8 WUs). Seeing as Nelly needs 4:25 for 8 WUs it simply cannot generate more than 25k/d.

Anyone else care to comment on this.Seems quite logical, but i'm no expert(an amateur at best ) when it comes to crunching and stats for it.

I mean it can ofc (Dave said sth. about 31k today somewhere around here), but it shouldn't.
Or, the Harpers should get more. I already posted how they get put down by the quota here

Thanks for the info Dave. Just what I was looking for.

Obviously now the choice is do I upgrade my gaming rig (I think so!!) or get a couple of Quads to add to the farm?

P35 gear might be getting cheaper soon!!!!

I was having the same problem with one of mine that was doing only HCC work. I switched it to HPF2 and am doing much better. Some machines just get better returns on different projects.

    For example:
    Attachment 88452
This machine (name blocked out as I was rather cross when I named it) was getting about HALF it's claimed credit on all HCC units. Since switching to HPF2 it's getting a LOT better return.

My Opty systems on the other hand:
    Attachment 88456
do quite nicely on HCC work.
