My revision 1.01g P5Q-E with 'A2' revision chipset sucked big-time!

However, I have a pair of A3's now and they are both working perfectly

My 'rig time' has been a bit limited lately, but thus far have the E7200@3.8GHz/475fsb/ddr2-1140 on 5:6 with CPU PLL at 1.52, 1.22VTT, and NB at 1.22v as well. I can probably run the NB at or below 1.20v with more GTL tweaking (at 0.580 now for NB ref). Currently running 5-5-5-18 at PL-8.

    The E8400 is at 4.005GHz/445fsb/ddr2-1068 at 5-5-5-15 PL-9 (I think, might be 8). CPU PLL 1.52, 1.16VTT, NBv 1.18 as I'm still playing with FSB/RAM.

Seems to be XP64 likes more NBv/slightly lower NB GTL ref than XP32 on the dual-boot E7200 rig. That's all for now
    My 'all air' boxes...

    Thanks Leeghoofd.

The shop won't be happy with me taking pictures in store
Instead, I have copied down the serial number.

    Serial Number: 86M0AC692351
    Same Model #: 90-MIB4G0-G0EAY00Z

I think 86 means manufactured in 2008 June.
P45 A3 production start in July so it cannot be A3.
    Maybe wait longer?

Model (of piccie) I got was already with 0803 bios and the smaller caps at the first PCI-E slot (will resize picture later this evening still at work) we need to figure out these codes to determine which chipset rev is on it

    Thanks cchilb.

I think the first 2 digits indeed represent the manufacture date. first 8 for 2008 and second for August. So A3 boards would have serial greater or equal to 88.

Both boards are ASUS revision '1.01g' just like the 'less-than-consistent' (and despised) first board. The shipping bios on both boards is 1201 dated 08/05/2008 as they POST so they were at least made after that date, so they quite possibly were made in August supported the year/month theory.

cchilb - you get your board from the egg? Looks like we are 2 digits apart.

Note: 9mm 124gr.+P GDHP in photo is in case I ever see my first P5Q-E again, that sucker is toast!

I have had both A2 P5Q-E and A2 Biostar TPower I45, my A3 P5QE's are much better in terms of running much lower voltages in BIOS setting at the same FSB I ran on the A2's. My A2 'E' was a dud no matter what BIOS I tried, and the I45 was ok but the voltage granularity on Vcore (among other weird BIOS limitations including last mfr update on 7/10/08) did it in for me when I got the E0 8400.

There are some great A2's out there, I just didn't get one.

From what I have read the A3's from various manufacturers are hitting some really high FSB and doing it on reasonable voltages, seeming to be in line with what I have experienced. If you are happy with yer A2 I'd stand pat

If anyone has some great info on the A3 revision please do chime in!

Anyone got a pencil vdroop mod for this board? Had this board for about 2 weeks, it's set at 1.406 in Bios, 1.376 idle, 1.352 under load. This is messy as hell. Running a e7200, which isn't clocking very well (Set at 3.6 (400x9)for those voltages, no post past 420 FSB). SLAPC batch #Q827A702, Ket's 1306m bios. Any help would be appreciated.

Any particular reason you do not want to use the LLC function Butcher ? Works pretty fine here 1.256 set in bios, idles at 1.248 and is 1.256 under load on my DLx's , the E load is a tiny bit less...

Hey Leeg, it was causing BSODs for me while running Orthos. When I was overclocking I had LLC on and it would BSOD within minutes, then I turned LLC off ( saw Zeus' post) and without changing any settings, including vcore, suddenly I was OCCT stable one hour. So I've kept it off.

That LLC issue was resolved with 1406 bios on my E board... beforehand indeed it didn't function at all...

has anyone experienced a need to boost Vcore after a while?

strange, but a couple of days ago my computer became completely unstable after 2 months of running super stable....random restarts often, and a couple of restarts that would end up in non-reboots; had to turn PSU off, and start over.

I bumped Vcore from 1.28750 to 1.29325 and a little better but still rebooted. Then up to 1.3000v, and almost good but had two more reboots. Up to 1.3250 and now it is stable again! I didn't want to run that high of a Vcore, so I went back to FSB = 430 (3.89ghz), and put the Vcore down to 1.2835 and now it is running perfectly fine.

anyone notice this? the e8400/8500 thread reports several episodes of this on several types of boards.

Sure it's the CPU and not one of ya rams capping out ? Many users required a bit more Vcore after a while but we are not talking going from 1.29 to 1.32, but more from 1.29 to 1.295... Your Vcore requirement seems a bit steep... did you update the bios or changed any other values ?

no..nothing changed. It just one day started rebooting like crazy.

I posted this on the e8400 thread, and it seems like indeed it is a CPU issue as several people have reported having to increase Vcore substantially on the wolfdales after a while. strange!

oh well, I'm running 3.9ghz @1.28 pretty stable, so I'm gonna try that for a while...I don't want to run 1.325 to be able to run 4.01 ghz again; not worth it in my opinion.

I had a second p5q-e crap out on me last week, it was a RMA replacement "newer version" board, 88M0A something.

I was just watching highlights on nfl.com, computer instantly shut down, restarted, but would not post ever again, although it would power up. I tried replacing the mobo with a p5q deluxe and everything is working fine again. I have no idea what the heck happened to the board, it was just like instant death.

crap...looks like the same thing is happening to me!!

I thought it was a CPU wolfdale Vcore issue, but this morning it rebooted again!! and now it wont POST, although it powers up. Fans are running full speed too. crud, this sounds like a mobo going bad, right?
