    Prescott is kicking ass.

    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13847

    Prescott 3.2GHz | Northwood 3.2GHz
    PC Mark 2004
    PC Marks 5098 | 5059
    Comanche 4 Demo
    1024x768@32 bit 57 | 65
    Quake 3 Arena 4
    1024x768@32 bit 350 | 380
    Aquamark 3
    1024x768 44086 | 44334
    Cinebench 2003
    CPU Bench (secs) 78.8 | 69

At least 10% slower than Northwood and not overclocking so well to boot.

I wonder what Ed at Overclockers thinks now.

kicking ass? 15% slower in comanche4 ...we will see how it behaves in other games. i bet it scores fast in 2k1 and 2k3 as intel is paying futuremark quite some money...

I dunno, those Prescott numbers look real low. I expected numbers quite a bit higher.

these scores are at the level where everybody is telling so i dont see any mistakes but this test may made by a uncompatible system like fugger told before

If this is true, how will this affect Prescott's sales?

    Probably not much at all.

Tom will spin it however necessary to look superior. And plenty of fools take his word as gospel.

I dont put much faith into Fudo's articles, but they do seem to match others findings from around the web. Strangely enough its also slower at the one encoding test, however that is by far not the whole picture.

Fugger may not be able to say much, but he could stop in and indicate where this report scores on a BS level of 1-10.

    Fugger?

    Stop it already....
Intel is a huge publicly owned corp that has stockholders to please, their stock is up and times are good. There is not a chance in hell that the Prescott will be
    a) slower than Northwood
    b) unfeasibly warm
    c) low headroom.
This is the same basic core and process that will take Intel to 4.0gHz by Q4...4ghz in a closed OEM case in a stuffy office in Kuala Lumpur....I expect the Prescott to be 5% faster than Northwood, and more overclockable. 3.4 should hit 4.5 (screenshot) on stock Prommy m2...Under top notch phase change, Prescott will be benching 3D at 4.7ish, with some top OC'ers benching superPi/Pifast at 5+, even 5.3...The first 5ghz 3DMark run may very well be on a Prescott!

Just secured ANOTHER P4 Northwood - L310A677 to match my L310A744, these babies both do 3.6Ghz....I am betting these will be a HIGHLY desired CPU as soon as the Prescott is released. I love Intel and I will most likely buy a Prescott during first week of release but I am not getting a warm fuzzy from this proc.

you guys remember the williamette, well if you do, history is gonna repeat itself real soon.

1.4ghz williamette socket 423 slower than PIII 1.4 clock for clock. Later on it went to new socket 478. Wlliamette became Northwood, and ramped to 3.4ghz on 130nm.

3.4 prescott socket 478 slower than P4 3.4 clock for clock. later on it will go on new LGA 775 socket. Prescott expected to ramp to 4ghz on 90nm.

Umm, kanavit, the Willamette wasnt hotter than the surface of the sun at its introductory speed.

But considering youre the head of Intels propaganda unit, feel free to think what you want.

Yeah, the fact that Prescott puts out over 100w of heat w/o overclocking it is definately a turn off for people like me. I also dislike the deeper pipeline

i bet that a 90nm northwood would clock higher than a prescott... who cares about the 5% performence gain, if you could have a 90nm nortwood that ocs to 5ghz?

Seems the Prescott would obligingly run quicker if it werent for its heat.

Bet it will do pretty well with the right cooling. Problem is it needs at least 10% more clockspeed than Northwood to overcome its crappier architecture, at least with the current results.

Maybe the Feb 2nd Paper Launch will unveil some more uplifting news.
