I REALLY fail to see what can be gained from flashing to an inferior bios?! The Rampage bios may be slightly tougher on ram and chipset timings but once you learn the ins and outs of the bios, it's day and night in comparison to the lacking Maximus bios.

    back to old rampage bios

Well i was able to play games and boot into windows fine with the latest maximus bios (goal is to reach my rams at 1200mhz), but any kind of stress testing failed.

So now i've flashed back to rampage bios 0501 and its just as unstable as ever.

I dont know why this viper fin 9600 micron d9s hate this board so much. im going to try the rampage bios 0403.

Are there chips on both sides of the memory sticks? Check this post for a way to verify if the Patriots are really D9s. You shouldn't be having anywhere near this much trouble.

After talking to patriot themselves they claim the black viper fin 9600 are D9's. 1200mhz still is a no- go, though.

Dude, if that's your E8400 you're clocking, the FSB Termination voltage is WAY too high! You're gonna kill that thing!

Yeah, that vtt myth has been long busted.

Here are a few things I suggest.

    1. I think you want to stay on the 400 strap so you can bring your chip/ram near their max ocs, but I'd rather get on the 333 strap.

    2. change try 5-5-5-15-3-55 or 5-5-5-18-3-55

    3. go up one count on TRD (PL)

    4. Try a little more NBV

    I think I got it!

Well guys, I think I got it. Been prim95'ing for a few hours now. I know that doesn't mean anything, but before, it would crash under a minute. So it's a good sign. I'll leave it prim95'ing over night but for now, time for sum games!

TACTIC: These rams were tested with P35 chippy's, so I used my Neo2-FR's Motherboard SPD timings on the Rampage.

Here are my current BIOS settings using Maximus Bios 1207:

    Extreme Tweaker
    Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
OC From CPU Level Up : AUTO
    CPU Ratio Control : Manual
    - Ratio CMOS Setting : 9

    CAS# Latency : 5
    RAS# to CAS# Delay : 5
    RAS# Precharge : 5
    RAS# ActivateTime : 15
    RAS# to RAS# Delay : 12
Row Refresh Cycle Time : 45
    Write Recovery Time : 12
Read to Precharge Time : 12

    Read to Write Delay (S/D) : 12
    Write to Read Delay (S) : 12
    Write to Read Delay (D) : 12
    Read to Read Delay (S) : 12
    Read to Read Delay (D) : 12
    Write to Write Delay (S) : 12
    Write to Write Delay (D) : 12
    DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled
    Ai Clock Twister : light
    Transaction Booster : Disabled
    Relax level: 0

    CPU Voltage : 1.55v
    CPU PLL Voltage : 1.62v
    North Bridge Voltage : 1.61v
    DRAM Voltage : 2.28v (rated 2.3v, overvolt real = 2.3v)
    FSB Termination Voltage : 1.52v
    South Bridge Voltage : 1.050

Your read/writes should improve when you enable PL/Transaction Booster. Enable transaction booster and note the PL level. Slowly decrease the value each time until it becomes unbootable. Then use the previous value which allowed post, should give you much better results.

    EDIT

Read about tRD and how it can help performance. It's an excellent read and can avoid the "guesswork" above.

i enabled transaction booster and the lowest level i could achieve was 7.

The results were nsaty. latency of 106ms, and lower read/write speeds.

slug, not sure where your problem lies. Maybe it's the ddr2-1200 stix?

Check the thread here, I posted my results with PL 13 vs PL 8 and there was a tremendous difference in memory speeds.

I thought you had your RMA all sorted out?
I had to RMA my Maximus the second experience was much smoother than the 3870X2 run

Well the GPU got lost coming from Taiwan and the repair centre sent the wrong card to the UK centre and they didn't tell anyone back at the repair centre so I was left 3 weeks with no clue as to what was wrong. Phoned Asus down south and they rumaged and found this out. now I have to wait another 3 weeks for another new card to come from Taiwan to replace the 1 lost etc.

The test was because Zucker got me worried incase I did let it touch - that n I was petrified I'd lapped my CPU to death! I was my first time :P

I'm sure that was the toughest thing he ever did.

I just want to get your guys opinions on my overclock here. First off let me say im a total noob to overclocking, ive been reading about it but never actually doing it before im not sure if what im doing is ok or not. I got pics from my bios so you can see what I exactly did. I got a x48chipset rampage formula, q9550 quad. After this I did use occt to run a stabilty test and it passed. I am using core temp and just on desktop its sitting at 42c. During the test it was mostly at 62c. I have played cod4 for over an hour and cod5 for an hour as well and no problems.
