What remarks? I can understand the frustration of some. But since nobody is advocating voilence on a personal basis, the natural venting is ok.

And furthermore to this.... If you actually thought about this for a second WE ARE DOING MORE science and work for Pande while his dayum servers are offline, if implemented with UDmon.
So yes. In some circumstance, such as a GPU server outage it IS better for science. The insinuation that I or others by merely using UDmon as not "follow the rules" annoys me. And this is not the first time we spoke about UDmon.

Whats this about your turnaround drops with SMP? Is this with Dual SMP? as in longer WU completetion time for each?

Stuff it. The WU gets done in good time. I expect that the WU's done on this team are a good margin faster than what WU's get done on the rest of the teams.

Yea stuff it, I can do 2 SMPs on my OC quad quicker than windows can do one. Since the majority of WUs are done on windows and stock machines they are getting twice the work from each of quads...

i believe that i think i might have finally figured out all my problems, now i cant wait to go home and test all this new found knowledge to see if i can finally get all my comps up and folding. i just wanted to say thanks to Marvin for all his patience in addressing my questions... believe me , i had more than a few... so im still hoping that if they got the wu for me to fold with, by this time tomorrow i should be pumping out about 30kppd
Its not overkill if it works.

for anyone confused by the dual smp discussion..... it's pretty easy to put some numbers on it.

We'll use my setup as an example to demonstrate:
    I have 3 Q6600's@3.33ghz all Vista 64 running dual smp's and 8800gt's...

using an example of a smp wu 2665: (preferred deadline=144hrs)
    -with dual smp's those 3 Q6600's can turn and burn 6 wu's every 30hrs.
-with single smp's they turn and burn 3 wu's every 20hrs...

    what this means is:
-a dual smp setup nets me .2 wu/hr
-a single smp setup nets me .15 wu/hr
which of those rates benefits science more?
more wu's per hour OR less wu's per hr?

it's a pretty easy logical mathematical equation... the more efficient model wins (more wu's per hour).
    intel quad = dual smp
(of course, unless you're in xp running gpu's, then the gpu core starts stealing cores from smp)...
(in Vista, the gpu doesn't steal an entire core, so I can also run a gpu client with dual smp's on my Vista intel quads)...

Here is a 2665 that just started on a quad @ 3.2Ghz running 2 SMPs at the same time in Ubuntu. So that would be 2 WUs in 22 hrs from this one machine, how long does windows take to do 1-2665? Also included are benchmarks for 2665. All are Linux but one rig is server 2008 in red at 3.44Ghz...

RR, my vista64 Q6600's take 30hrs per 2665wu at 3.33ghz. dual smp's. but that's also running a gpu client on each.

yeah, linux kicks the snot out of windows in smp. how those a2 core wu's.. then it really kicks the LIVING snot out of windows. no a2 for windows yet. but I'm ok with windows vista for my gpu's. 2 of my Q6600's are user pc's anyway, and they need vista media center..

With Stanford being the way they have in the last year I dont see how we can have a decent contest or race, maybe we should be crunching something more reliable?

That's a personal choice. F@H is my home project, I doubt I'll be going anywhere unless they royally screw up everything somehow. I think they need to work on the load balancing, maybe drop another server in, and things with the GPU work will smooth out.

True, I have always like folding and that is what I started with almost 6 years ago, it just gets disgusting when things start messing up....

Yep. One of those things I've found I get ticked off but then I'm drawn back in, so aside from my occasional venting when something goes too haywire I just try to grin and bear it. After all, GPU and SMP are technically beta.

No ! Dak snuck in and unplugged almost all my rigs. I only had 4 gpu clients running when I got home. Fortunately on restart they all got work. One did an EUE suicide run but it's folding now.

It's nice having some folding vets around that know Stanford's weaknesses and that don't need hand holding. Soldier on guys. I'm hoping my production still looks like a middle finger tomorrow but I'm having serious doubts.

I have a Silencer 750 powering 2 9800 GX2s in one rig and it's making a high pitched whining noise. I don't think it's happy. The fan is on 24/7 trying to keep it cool.

Straining a little is it? I have run my silencer 750 with dual 4870x2 benching and I have not heard anything out of it, of course that is not a 24/7 full load either...

It really shouldn't be straining. It has 60 amps on the 12v rail and at most the 9800 gx2s use 34. I know. I'll just throw the side cover back on to dampen the sound. That will fix everything.
