Thats impressive, Thanks. I have my reapers running 1100mhz 5-5-5-15 pl 10 now. Im doing a blend test to see if it stable. Im hoping to be able to drop the PL to 8. I dont know if thats going to happen. My latencey in everest is 60, I would like to see that a bit lower as well.

The one problem with this board is that one retarded sata port thats blocked by my video card. I am using the orange SATA port for my OS disk and am taking a hit in performance. Could I use my DVD drive on the orange port? I wouldnt mind that being a little slower.

    loss in performance,after 480 fsb 480x10 E8600
there are some that have taken strap test, whit 45CHIP ?
has lowered, the mulitp.. to 8x500 to work myself out of it again,I will slowly go against the 4.8GHZ again.
so I can see how hollow ends,an see the performance, travel again.

I have been doing some testing on my Maximus II Formula (very similar to the P5Q-Deluxe) with Static Read Control & Dram Read Training enabled, and Clock Twister on Strong or Stronger. With Clock Twister set to strong/stronger it takes quite a bit of vNB to stabilize it, I was around 1.37 - 1.45 vNB for the various tests.

The use of SRC & DRT and setting strong or stronger gives a definite boost to bandwidth across the board and reduces latency significantly. At 534 FSB 5:6 Divider I had to drop CT to Strong, as even with 1.49 vNB I could not get into windows. Also notice the latency is almost identical between 500 FSB 5:6 CT Stronger and 534 FSB 5:6 CT Strong.

It appears that Clock Twister lowers latency significantly and has a noticeable but not large effect on bandwidth, and tRD (PL) has a great effect on bandwidth and a moderate effect on latency.

OK anyone using the 266 strap, consider this. I was at:

    1112 MHz ram
    5-5-5-12-3-30-6-3 @ 2.00v
    PL8
    266 strap
static read and dram read training disabled
    Clock twister on moderate
    vNB 1.27

    I was pulling ~9500MB/s & 54.5ns in everest

I now have changed this to:

    1069MHz ram (1068 real)
    5-5-4-12-2-25-4-2 @ 1.94v
    PL8
    333 strap
static read and dram read training enabled
    Clock twister on stronger
vNB 1.30v **Using Clock Twister 'stronger' at this setting needs 1.30 vNB (compared to 1.27v) for stability due to aggressive chipset timings, I stopped dual windows memtest at 1500% coverage, which I consider to be stable. I can pass Orthos small and large FFT's and Linpack as well.

and I get 60mb/s lower read bandwidth, the same write & higher copy bandwidth and 53.9 ns latency.

Here is some further testing, notice the performance increase from using the more aggressive chipset timings. I highly recommend using Clock Twister 'Stronger', and enabling Static Read Control and Dram Read Training, as the bandwidth increase and drop in latency is remarkable, although still not as efficient as the P35/X38/X48 chipsets.

    Nice tests CryptiK.

I think 450FSB/PL7 is only doable with MF2, not on the P5Q-D.

I'll check if the Clock Twister on Stronger works with P5Q with raised VNB.

Nice findings Cryptik... I've run them tests too in Everest but I had to go up one PL level or disable SRC to pass eg hyperpi 32mb or linpack ; otherwise I got errors... also stress in your post that this is nice for 2048Mb rams and might/does not work for 4Gb kits (2 x 2Gb)

I'm running this daily with SRC enabled, CT at moderate but PL 9 for stability... NB Voltage at 1.28 then

All in all your tests prove that P45 is a great chipset, might not be the best ( I still prefer X48 for SuperPi benches) but it's decent value for it's money and that sometimes some values ( especially PL comparison ) are sometimes a bit overrated...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yes you may have trouble running 4GB and SRC/DRT enabled and Clock twister 'stronger' on higher FSB speeds. However at 445 FSB, 5:6 divider (DDR 1068MHz) I am completely stable with those settings (Orthos, Linpack, memtest) and it is my 24/7 setting.

Ok, more benches. Just compared the P45 to a DFI X48 board in memory bandwidth and latency in everest. The X48 board bench was done by eva2000.

The general settings were 533 FSB, Ram @ 639.6 MHz, CPU @ 3997 MHz

    My boards additional settings were:

    Static Read Control: Enabled
    Dram Read Training: Enabled
    Clock Twister: Stronger
    PL: 8
    vNB: 1.45v
    vdimm: 2.25v

The X48 had ram set to 5-5-5-9, my p45 had ram set to 5-5-5-15

    X48 bench:

    P45 Bench:

    Comparison Table:

Here is SPI32M at my 24/7 settings (SRC & DRT enabled, Clock Twister 'Stronger'). Not bad efficiency for a P45 and conservative ram speed and timings:

The P45 can be 'coaxed' into producing some pretty decent numbers, but I too prefer the X48, I'm trying to choose a board at the moment, but it's so hard. I think so far I like the board eva used in the comparison above, but the UT/LT models are also good, but struggle to hit the FSB the DK-T2RSB can achieve.

Thats a good question, I've been able to go 8.5 x 470 but thats as high as I can get the fsb with the settings on auto on my P5q Pro. Now I've got it at 9 x 445. I want to know where my fsb and nb voltages are at on auto but I can't find this info anywhere, anybody know where to check?

You'd have to measure at the mosfets with a multimeter, there's not readouts in software.

Do you mean max vNB for benching or 24/7?

24/7 I'd try to keep it under 1.4v
Benching on air, try to keep it under 1.6v

Are you using a translator Martin? It's just hard to understand what you mean. I really want to understand though because you seem like you know what you are talking about. Can you give more complete explanations of what you are experiencing?

    translator yes sry

    I try.
    in 3D-mark 01/03/05/06 I found a large performance loss,whit the cpu from 4.6 to 4.8GHZ
has tried to lower multip.. an a higher FSB

got it same score whit 480x10 an 565x8,5 same volt set,hmm
I test alle voltset, but found out a NB help whit set the NB volt to 1,5Xv over 460x10/541x8,5 an up

My board is not happy with anything over 1.4v on the nb. Kind of weird.

current problem: if i am changing anything @ the bios, it is NOT shutting down and restarting... NO, it restarts immediately and when i want to shut down and restart out from Windows THEN it remembers the changing and shut down.

Sounds like either the board is going crazy or you have a bad flash or the BIOS chip is half bad. Try swapping to the backup chip and see if ti stops.

got the same idea.. flashed ketīs bios again but it doesīt help. @std the shutdown is working without any problems i noticed. it occurs over fsb 540 or so.. but i can can boot with fsb 550 direct into xp maybe it depends on some low voltage. have to check this out..

Ever since I flashed to 1406 I get an odd problem whenever Vista loads up. The first time the loading bar moves from left to right it stops for about ten seconds. The HD led doesnt blink its almost like True's video except the loading bar stops moving for about 10 seconds. Then the led starts blinking and the bar starts moving and windows loads right up. Windows has never failed to load up on me but it does take longer because of this. I never had this happen before 1406. My drive also seems a little slower than on my Tpower I45 and benches back that up. Its not much but still annoying. Has anyone had this happen? I would report this to Asus tech support but I have had nothing but problems with them. Its not worth the effort and hassle.

Have you tried to replace the TIM on the NB? I had the same problem with a P7N Diamond due to heat. It helped me alot.

I know this is a vague question but what voltages could cause bios corruption or ruin a bios chip on this board and what is the safe limit for PCIE sata volts and SB volts?
    Thanks in advance

Hve you tried the different CME options to see if it stops with a certain setting? Also mine does the whole stopping at a certain point thing to after service pack 1,, and I don't know if this is what you are talking about or not. Mine might not stop as long as yours because I have three drives in Raid 0.. and it might make it a little faster of a stop. I was set to performance but, I kept getting random lock ups while playing Far Cry 2 so, I went to compatible and everything is ok now for me again.. no crashes any more.

No, I know that quick pause that your talking about and this is different. I never had this happen befor 1406. It allways happen the first time th bar moves to the right. It stops at the same point every time and its a long 10 second or so pause. Its very odd. The HDD led stops blinking almost like the board stopstalking to the hard drives for a bit. Then the HDD led starts blinking and it starts to load right up. I havent messed with the CME, mostly because I dont know what it is. I think Im using optimized. I dont know. What ever came on the board. I cant find any info on what the h*ll it is. Ill try the different options and see if it makes a difference.
Edit: CME settings made no difference.
