    L1N64-SLI WS/B Vcore unlock

Can't believe no one started a thread in here for modding the L1N64. Just wondering if anyone ever got around to setting all CPU's to "Able to change freq = YES" in the BIOS and if anyone managed to get the ability to increase core voltage without a hardmod?

I'll take a crack at looking through the BIOS when I get home from work but I can tell you right now, I'm an Xtreme Amateur.

Well, I went looking through the BIOS using AMIBCP.exe to see what I could find. I found the CPU Voltage and CPU Multiplier entries and they were set to Reserved access/user level. So I went ahead and changed them over to User, renamed the BIOS version to include my name, and saved it. Put it on a thumb drive and flashed it. Now my system hangs on post. The "CrashFree BIOS 3 Utility" thats built onto this mobo apparently isn't working since its not auto loading the old rom from the cd and I don't think the checksum is messed up.

Anyone got any ideas other than RMA?

I had a computer do that once to me after flashing bios. After a while all i did was clear cmos and it worked. Not saying it will work but its worth a try. Good luck

I think I cleared the CMOS. Hmm, maybe I didn't have the jumper set long enough. Let's see.

Nope. Didn't work. Not even getting to the USB check so the keyboard doesn't even work. I wonder if using a ps/2 keyboard would get me any further. Again, lets find out.

Well, that didn't get me anywhere either. I'm at a lose again. The funny thing is that I've only had this system up for a couple of days and I already go ahead and screw it up. And there goes my 17K PPD.

how could you not change the frequency on that board?? thats the dual 1207 board correct?? i once owned me one and had no problems overclocking my fx70's

maybe it has something to do with you having opterons in?

Yeah, I assume that it has something to do with the opterons. It is the /B board so its got the BIOS for opterons, but they show as "Able to change freq = NO" and its grayed out. However, I can increase the bus speed but it doesn't actually do anything. CPU's are still clocked at stock, and with the +100mv increase set for CPU Overvoltage it still didn't show any signs of changing. I just wanted to get that Able to change Freq to be always YES no matter what cpu was in there.

man thats a bummer... i didnt have the board for long.. but from the time i had i was in love with it!

i hope you get that fixed.. cuz its a shame if you don't!

and possible way of calling asus and getting a new bios chip for it (that is if you know how to replace the bios chip.. and it is not soldered on)... i know they sent out chips for their craptastic 680i's that constantly had corrupt bios... i don't see the harm in asking for one for your motherboard now

Thanks. I already have an RMA open with them due to the problems I was having with the memory when I first got the board (Was using unbuffered instead of the needed Registered) so I think I'm just gonna send it back to them. I mean I only got the board like a month ago or so. Once I get it back I'll look into doing what msimax did and desolder the BIOS chip and socket it.

The ship to address is in IN and I'm in NY, so hopefully the turn around time won't be more than 2 weeks. Ughn, stupid Asus and not having a multi-bios system like Gigabyte.
