Well... She's up and running now. Some pics for you all:

Yes, that's indeed only 91W. The 80GB Seagate that's in there will be replaced with a more silent 2.5" lappy HD as well, so that will lower the power consumption with another ~5W or so. Still, running this system for only 4.5 €-cents an hour is pretty good stuff
    Main rig:
    CPU: I7 920C0 @ 3.6Ghz (180*20)
    Mobo: DFI UT X58 T3eH8
    RAM: 12GB OCZ DDR3-1600 Platinum
    GPU/LCD: GeForce GTX280 + GeForce 8600GTS (Quad LCDs)
    Intel X25-M G2 80GB, 12TB storage
    PSU/Case: Corsair AX850, Silverstone TJ07

I like the extra SATA ports your board has compared to my X6. However the lack of expansion slots can be nasty. I'll probably end up buying some SATA RAID controller as I want mine to replace my current NAS

What are you gonna use it for besides toy?

    Martijn,

    91w ? excellent
What PSU do you have (how efficient?)
    How many fans are connected?
    Just one stick of RAM?

    Thanks !

I am running some OEM ultra silent PSU, it's specced up to 300W. I have no idea how efficient it is, but I bet you'll get better results with a new PSU. I am indeed running one stick of RAM and the only fan connected right now is the 700RPM 120mm you can see in the pictures.

I am getting 34C load temps with the panel off and 50C load temps with the side panel closed. I might be getting another 120mm to act as an exhaust, but the PSU fan really is enough right now. If it weren't for the stupid HD, the system would already be dead silent.

EDIT: the PSU is an Enlight GPS300AB 100-U.

This will replace the old P4 2.26 as a seedbox and game/fileserver.

Vista Ultimate as we speak, but the GPU isn't all that ready for running all the Vista crap, even when using the classic interface. When doing nothing but displaying task manager or basically any program the CPUs are working at 10%. I am going to throw on S2003 on it by the end of next week.

Similar to my use then, I want to replace my current dual 5110@800 and NAS. Make one box that is faster and uses less power. Will run ESX though, keeps things flexible. Considering I can stuff eight 2GB modules in it it should all be fine.

MM tells me that that is highly not recommended apparently the mobo dont play nice with 16GB

From what I understand it should be fine as long as they're single rank modules.

I believe Server 2k3 Enterprise and Datacenter did.

Server advanced/datacenter and whatnot already support PAE. 2003 standard and up as well. Besides that Linux 2.6 and up support it as well > ESX.

I understand that, though is the 8 rank limitation a hard limitation or is it simply not recommended to have more but will it run just fine? ie same as overclocking, running things past their specs.

    Guys, some help here

Got all the stuff I need, finally.
Already mounted the CPUs, heatsinks and mobo in the case (omg that thing is big.. but very flat. I truly like it ).
Now this mobo has like a 1000 connectors, most of which aren't labeled
Anyone got a manual for this puppy? Cause I'm pretty lost here. The fact that this Silverstone TJ05 case has a million connectors and cables normal cases don't have doesn't help either

    Got it, thanks.
Finished the build and it's alive

Never seen such a slow post in my whole life though. I was already like wtf it's dead, then it posts. That thing needs longer from post to bios than all my other rigs put together...

    Yap, one more Sausageman online
Whoever said those don't need fans tho... I am running passive right now, temp probe I stuck to the hsf of cpu #1 already shows 60C after 5 minutes of bios

82W from the wall @ bios, using some CHieftec 500W PSU though that is a) totally overrated and b) probably got crappy efficiency

Damn lol. So how did that happen?

BTT, little Sammy is installing Win now.. had some trouble fighting with jumpers & cables as this mobo only has 1 IDE port, but I have an IDE DVD + IDE HDD on that one... IDE needs to die, seriously. It's just that I got lots of old IDE drives that are perfect for crunchers.

I like having IDE connectors on boards coz it lets me keep using still functional drives (plus I only own one SATA drive)
