Why hasn't anyone made a granite or marble computer case?

My girl is in the granite business, so I was actually considering making a granite case in the next six months.

My question is why hasn't this been done yet? Beside the ease to work with it, I think it is a better material than wood.

Sure it is heavy, but it manly too. I was thinking something along the lines of taking the rails and interiors of a full case. Using L support bracket and silicone to connect everything. I might also reuse the back of the case to simplify alot of mounting the power supply.

Then using a water jet cutter to cut any of the fan holes.

Sure it might cost 400 dollars but, you wouldn't need to paint the thing ever.

Don't you think a granite case would be crazy badass.

yeah it would be cool. you really wouldn't be able to move it if it were say the size of an MM. if it were smaller-ish maybe it's feasible

I have no problem with a 80 pound case, Heck as long as it is less than 130 pounds, I wouldn't mind.

The thinnest granite they sell is 2cm, so it definitely going to be heavy.

It would weight a lot and probably cost more than a triple SLI rig.

I never seen that. I googled it and most of the stuff that popped up was not computer related. Pretty nice. I wonder how much they spent.

I don't like that case. The guy was using a material that would allow him a completely radical design and allow him to make something that looks completely different. And what did he do, he shaped it like a standard PC case.

To my eye that PC case looks very tacky and very 80's. But thats just my opinion. If I was working with something like granite I'd try and do something like a flintstones case, stone henge or even do something a bit more sedate and just have a granite worktop desk and merge the PC into the desk.

Doesn't everyone have a granite quarry in their backyard and a waterjet to cut with?

Not a granite quarry, having the slabs precut is much much nicer even

I think if you had to pay someone to have it done it would cost allot, I might check his original dutch buildlog on tweakers maybe he mentions something about it there since it is his parents workshop.

And I think stone can be just as easy to work with if you know how and have the right tools but you definetly need the last, acces to the right tools.

Since OP gf is in the buisiness maybe he does have easy acces though, and he could try something with a diffrent shape to satisfy Chris I also wouldn't mind some exploring in the directions he talked a about. A granite desk with the pc built in, I would like to have it wc and silently crunching away deseases sounds like a nice dream to have.

Maybe it's just that Halloween is right around the corner, but a tombstone themed rig sounds freakin' awesome. Or go all out and make one that looks like a mausoleum.

Damn that was a let down...the granite case looks like a typical PC case from 5 years ago...I would think that when you have such an exotic material you would try something a little adventurous..I dunno

It would be a lot of work, but worth it in the end.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

while it sounds good in theory.. and im sure it would be a fun project to work on....i cant help but think the overall outcome would be .....rather boring

i have an idea, why not build a carbon fiber case......then build a nice marble desk to put it on

I really don't like the color of the stone used in the Bit Tech case, or the design, I think its quite repulsive actually... Perhaps something with warmer colors that would show the lines of the case better? Like a reddish/yellowish/greyish kind of polished stone?

It sounds like a cool idea, hard to do, but if done right it could turn out very well. That said, if it looks like just another PC case, but with marble on the exterior, I don't think it has much potential at all... Do you have any drawings or plans to show us your ideas for this case?

    good luck

because it's granite, surely it will be cool as fook?
Just think about when you wake up in the morning and touch your granite work surface, it's freezing cold.
    bet the temps'll be nice.

definitely cool! make it into a futuristic shape also, not the common boxy design. however, if you're talking about genuine Carbon Fiber, it would cost a bomb too.
