Lapping a 120 eXtreme

Considering lapping my 120 eXtreme but i have a question that is probably going to sound dumb but here goes. If i lapped my 120 eXtreme and my CPU, would it make any difference to the pressure of it sitting on the CPU? If you lapp your settup you take off a thin layer from the CPU and HS-is it enough to lessen contact pressure?

Since i have an Antec 1200, my heatsink sends the heat upwards directly to the 19cm top fan. i have been concerned about the weight of the heatsink and possible flexing. I know the screws are tight but not overtightened. If i was to lapp my rig i would need to be sure i wasnt adding to the issue of the weight of the heat sink.

you want to crank that thing down until the mobo is just about to bend.

you will be removing mass obviously there will be less contact if you had the same amount of turns on the screws...

It comes with a backplate, right? I crank mine all the way until the screws bottom out and the mobo doesn't flex.

it does come with a backplate and you can crank it all the way. The X bracket bottoms out before you have to worry about too much pressure

The 120 is firmly in place, i have no doubt about that, but i wanted to know if taking a layer off the cpu and heatsink lessens the pressure between them after lapping?

Yeah, it would reduce mounting pressure slightly. To alleviate this, place a washer underneath each of the springs on the four screws so that you can screw the heatsink down farther, thus increasing mounting pressure by a considerable amount. Did this to my old Ultima before I went water (and got rid of springs so I could hardmount ) and my friend's TRUE.

Great answer! I like it and i am definently going to lapp the 120 and the cpu now.
