but just goto 6.23, it's the best one yet anyway... just drop it in and run the -smp flag http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=6143
edit: oops, that's how I do mine in 64bit with mpich.
you said you're deino, I've never done deino since all mine are 64bit..
so bone up on it first to see how it's done...

Thats for winders...
Well I have not had a 2605 hang in several weeks now with the latest 6.23 beta R4 I think for Linux but my clients are running 64 bit Kubuntu 8.04 and Debian Etch server native not Vmware clients if that makes any difference. There was some talk that the problem might be related to minor network problems like short network drop outs and such.

my 2665's were hanging at finished unit in windows, til I discovered my router was spitting out a dns every 24hrs and causing the nic to recycle, and my wu's were hanging. I chased that thing down for a good while... it's been fine ever since I fixed it. Sparky clued me in on that one..

Yep, any network instability (NIC reset due to IP refresh, even with the same IP) can cause the SMP client to go bonkers at the end of a unit. If you have a network instability that you are aware of, Ctrl+C out of the SMP client, and when the network goof is fixed open it back up. That'll keep the SMP from going wacko at the end. It doesn't help when you don't know about the network issue though since you won't know to stop and restart the SMP client, but in that case you want to track down what is happening with the network. Good amount of the time, SMP hangs are due to network issues.

Yea windows has always hung up if I reset the router or unplugged it for a few minutes or it lost connection when I had wireless but Ubuntu never has, that is what I liked about, it would run with no network. My hangs were after it finished the WU then shut down it would not send the results with out Qfix and only the 2605s...![]()
Ooops, I guess I mixed them up, I'm on MPI not DEINO, so 5.91 it is. Stable as hell that client. I was rebooting pretty ofter bc of GPU overclocking, but never lost a WU, even with several reboots while crunching on one WU. I hope 6.23 will work for me, bc I also didn't find anything about extending the time for 5.x beyond 11/02/08.
Mike, I did that drop-in replacement when I first moved from 5.91 to 6.22, but it didn't work, afterwards the services wouldn't come up, I had to reinstall the clients. I seriously hope it's not the same with 6.23.
I don't run as service, so couldn't tellya. all mine are just desktop shortcut manual launches. like this http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=199283

just a quick update to keep the list active in the thread...
we'll try something new this morning...
instead of using the 7 day eoc average, I used the "last 24hrs" box from your eoc user pages..
remember these numbers aren't important, it's just giving people something to look at and a way for us to keep the list at the forefront of the thread in case anyone wants to join.

that's not the eoc24hr average numbers. it's the "last 24hr" numbers from your user pages at eoc...
so it's just whatever you turned in this past 24hrs.... from 6am 10/20 to 6am 10/21...
thought it might be a better way to represent what people are turning in,
since we have new people that haven't been folding a full 7 days yet, or people with changing ppd.
it's just another way to snapshot user production.. if you had a good dy yesterday it will be high, if you had a bad day yesterday it will be low, if you hade an average day yesterday it will be about right. (from 6am 10/20 - 6am 10/21).
for example here's thunderducks page. he had a pretty good 24hr period (6am -6am)...
but if you notice.. the last 24 hr number is much more representative of what he's been turning in these past few days than the 24hr ave number.. so it's a little more accurate this way. btw: awesome ppd Thunderduck!
I could pick anyone in the list to demonstrate this example.. The main point being:
24hr average is the last 7 days averaged.
last 24 hrs is just a snapshot of 1 day.
Either eoc number can be more accurate or less accurate, it's just different ways of representing it..
it all depends on what the user's production trend is. the chart above is using "last 24hrs" on everyone.

the official scorecard won't actually have a number for week 1 in it until the week is complete. but I'll try to post little status updates once or twice each week in this thread so everyone will have something to trash talk about... (like a wed 6am points week update)... or Tue/Fri etc...
I'm not expecting my PPD to vary much. Planning on chugging along around 15K or so, so no surprises from me this time. Happy where I am...for now.
