^ Why do you keep your front fans on the bottom.

You should put the CD/DVD drive at the bottom then a fan then two spacers and then a fan at the top.
Thats what I do because the front fan goes into the cpu and cools ram etc. the fan above the cd drive goes into the graphics and NB , them just sitting on the bottom just basically goes to the PSU and some what graphics card.

Laziness. I used to have three 120MM fans on the front and an external USB CD/DVD drive, but that's being used on my main rig.

Did you notice any temperature changes with 3 fans?

With the third one in front of my CPU it went down a couple of degrees, never compared the GPU temps though.

I did a thorough comparison on my rig: all fans on low and all fans on full speed.
It did a whopping 3 degrees Celsius... well, you guess what speed my fans are running on now :P

I have 2 extra fans tho... one in front/top and 1 in the side panel (all original Antac fans... I like the blue glow :P)
Also have a mem-cooler installed (which you can hardly see on this pic... but then you better scroll back a few pages )

He probably did the slim dvd/cd rom drive its at the very bottom of the case underneath the last fan (cant see the pics kinda distorted), or he uses and external one.

I run the top at medium, the back and two front low (no side fan yet). Its fairly quiet that way (the seagate HDD is louder than the fans).

I am only overclocked to 3.185 (from 2.8). My CPU stays 38-40, Motherboard temps 44-48 and GPU 57-61 when I play MMOs all day. Under stress benchmarking the CPU only gets to 46-48. I dont see any reason to increase the fan speeds.

    HI all, GREAT forum here.

So I am in the process of modding my Antec 900. I just drilled the rivets out for easier access. My question is, I cannot pay now to have this machine "powder coated" So I am going to have to use spray paint, I am not painting the "outside" at all, I ma leaving that black. I am going to paint the mobo sheet, and the pretty much everything except the original case (black parts). So Will Spray Paint look and hold up good? What are my options? Thanks all, I appreciate all your help

The paint job quality will depend on the time you spend to get it prepped and properly painted. If you do a half assed job of prep and applying paint, then you can expect half assed quality. If you take the time to do it right, as you have started to by breaking it down, you can have automotive (or better) quality if you want.

There is a Painting 101 thread around here somewhere, and at least one how to in this thread IIRC. Spend a bit of time getting familiar with the process and do it right, the completed project should be great.

Good question. That is a key factor in good cable-management -- hiding everything.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum (as are many others) Loving the thread as I just bought an Antec 900 case and I'm transplanting bits and pieces from my old case to this new one. I'm in the process of modding the case for better wire management but I had one question, is there sufficient space at the bottom of the case with the standard legs/cushions to flip the PSU upside down so it draws air from underneath the case? or would I have to install longer legs to get sufficient airflow moving into the PSU?

BTW. I'm currently working in the middle East so it gets very hot and I'm worried about lack of air getting into the PSU with the standard cushions that come at the bottom of the case. Thanks in advance for any help given.

    @Defratos - Welcome to XS!

I assume you are planning on cutting a hole in the bottom of the case when you flip the PSU. Depending on how many fans you have in the case already, you may not need to elevate the case since the PSU fan is really only cooling the PSU. If there is adequate airflow into the case, the PSU *should* be fine.

Having said that, however, more airflow is almost always better. Lower temps = longer life for everything electronic. Putting feet or casters on the bottom of the case would do what you want. Check these links for some examples:
    http://www.mnpctech.com/casemodstore.html
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ndex&cPath=133

One bit of advice: If this case is going to be sitting on the floor, put a filter on it. Or at least a screen. Dust is bad, m'kay.

Hey thanks for the reply buddy. well in total there will be 5 fans, the standard 2 in front and 1 rear, 1 Side and one Top. Now I've been looking at different PSUs and I came across the Kingwin 700W Modular PSU (pic below) now has anyone tried this before? if so how easy/flexible are the cables because the connections where the LEDs are seem very tight and I'm not sure if I'd be able to route the cables from the back of the case with these types of connections, anyone had any experience with this unit?

lol umm yeah that was pretty much my reason , Ok I'll try and find a nice 700W corsair one, but do you know of any decent 700W modular PSU? you know the ones with which you can un-plug the cables you don't need?

ok I found the Corsair 620W HX Modular PSU, now would 620W be enough to run most things? I don't have a crazy setup like some people on here I've got the following:

    Intel Core 2 Quad (Q9450)
    Asus P5E3 Premium MB
    OCZ 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz
ASUS NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E
    Only 1 yes 1....Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA 2 7200rpm
    HP DVD1040i 18x DVD RW/RAM Lightscribe
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64bit (and please don't comment on the OS I've already lived with it for over a year now)
    Zalman CPU cooler (CNPS9700 LED)
and finally 1 x Thermal Control Panel with a 5 slot card reader and two extra USB connections (has an LCD display) not sure how good this is yet so I'll find out soon enough here's a link http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136390

Am I missing anything....humm don't think so, well apart from the PSU which I'm still deciding on

Just got an antec 900. Not got everything to get it going yet though.
I've got the same mobo as you WiLL, and was wondering how you mounted that little fan to the mobo heatsink? as it looks quite good.

are you refering to the coppor heatsinks around the CPU? I haven't fitted it yet, or even seen if it'll fit. I'll see if I can get around to seeing if it'll fit on the weekend.
