    watercooled 2900xt's (picts too)

    hi all ordered some Ek 2900xt blocks (got them cheap of etailer site clearnace stock)


    so stripped down my 2900xt cards and cleaned all old thermal crap off other crap for bing air cooled
    Then i fitted the shiney new blocks and decided to test each car on its own to make sure everything was o.k to then flash bios for faster speeds ( 1 ghz core are the aims)

    new block fitted (old air cooling above)

    Argh something wrong



    Crushed core perhaps so weird it wasnt on hard ( i,m no noob)



    back on stock cooler


    Its dead !!!!


    card all straight ( no warping)

    thermal paste applyed !!

    MMMM shame i didnt get two red ones (only had one left ordered two of them)

    testing card 2


    Results so far 920 core 100% stable ati tool 1 hour clean
    1.42 on core (ati tool)
    temps 52 core
    40 pcb temp
    60 vrms

    Cooling
    Invotec 120mm rad, eheim 1048 pump /res, 2 bisonic 120mm fans ek FCR600 full cover block

    More posts to follow another 2900xt is hopefully on way !!!!!

    Awaiting on farnell sending me my caps and variable resistors so i can volt and cap mod them (waiting 2 weeks now)

    Did you use silver thermal paste on the first card?

    yes but there was no shorting out on any other parts checked seal twice before i powered up card the paste was fine

    really weird card is spotless no paste anywere is shouldn't be (one of my first thoughts was i had shorted out the card with paste)

    did you clean the core?? you could see if it was cracked?? rma it sometimes cards die for no reason like that and they shouldnt. if all you did was put that block on then it's a card defect.

    I cleaned the core and no marks at all, so weird as for Rma i,m not the original owner and i no reciet so i cannot.

    I was bidding on ebay for one but lost so i,m still in the hunt for another one

    Sorry for your loss, the good thing is that, it shouldn't be too hard to replace, many people are stepping up to newer cards. Not saying the 2900xt is bad, but just imagine if that happened with a brand new $400+ card. I saw a pair on ebay not too long ago where 2 of them sold for around $150 used.

    o.k just thought i,d update this ended up i was overvolting the card to get my overclock

    some better results now sadly only on one card still trying to get hold of another one
    anyhow enough chat here is the picts



    maybe get to 1200 core perhaps !!!!!
