Arrow Intel Core i7-965: 50% more performance than QX9770

According to some reviewers who had their hands on the upcoming Bloomfield, the new CPU runs great. But how huge improvement it is compared to today’s top dog?

In a recent document sent to partners, Intel pointed out that when comparing Core i7-965 with QX9770, we can get 52% more 3D gaming performance, 38% more rendering performance and 41% more movie editing and conversion performance. (Core i7-965 platform: X58, DDR3 3G, Discrete VGA card, QX9770 platform unknown.)

Yes, the numbers are quite vague, but it is directly coming from Intel. Compared to a more expensive product, we can’t expect more. (QX9770>1450USD, Core i7-965=999USD)

yeah but that was a different time
it was a bit of a PR battle and it was really hard to believe they would smash AMD and OC as good as it was talked about

but it turned out every bit as good and crushed AMD the day it got released

i dont know that we will really see such changes in tech from Intel's model changes alone though....there is obviously difference between new and old tech but not to same degree we saw with Conroe vs A64

isnt the faster superpi due to the better l2 latency in nehalem?

Sorry but Nehalem gaming boost over QX9770 will be 5 - 10 % :| Only 3DMark Vantage's CPU-test and Lost Planet's Cave timedemo will get huge improvements since those support 8 threads.

I saw these i7's on UK e-tailor overclockers, the Extreme i7 cost around £870, rather cheap eh.

Westmere is 6 core for UP and DP, and 12 core for MP platforms with its 32nm refresh of Beckton. There is nothing with 8 or more cores for desktop coming out till probably 2010.

its been removed, so ignore what ever prices Overchargers put up. I'm hoping some cpu coolers ot at very least LGA1366 brackets be released for current coolers, not getting this if that means using a stock cooler :\

This 50% claim is pure BS marketing. But to anyone who "plays" 3D Vantage or Lost Planet tests,it will hold water for sure.

As Sampsa said,5% over Yorkfiled is what to expect(and as we saw from pconline last week,it can be even slower per clock in some games and non gaming tests... with turbo hopefully being off)

Damn me those things are coming out soon and I have not even managed to build my latest pile of computer parts and watercooling stuff.

I have an Asus Rampage Extreme, an E8500, a Q9550, 4GB DDR3, 2 ATI 4870X2 with EK Blocks, 4 Radiators (3 PAs on TFC360) and 6 1TB HDs and LOL all are sitting idle because I don't have FREAKING time to built that thing.

By the time I make it Icore 7 will be running at 10GHzzz and my parts will have gone to waste.

Do you think I should sell them now before I even build them (M/B - CPUs) and get a Nehalem? But I really don't want to deal with all the initial M/B bugs this time.
Hardware :Asus Rampage Extreme, 4870X2 (Crossfire X) EK FC Blocks, CPU Q9550@490FSB/4,180Ghz, RAM 4GB DDR3, Auzentech Prelude X-fi,PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 1200 Watt,
    3 Loops with TFCs360 and a PA.120.2/DDCs.
