help pleaseHi, I'm insanely new at overclocking with the Maximus Formula. I was wondering if anybody has the same hardware as I do, since I really want to get a 4ghz stable on my proc.
Here's my specs:
Intel Q9550 C1 stepping
Asus Maximus Formula
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2x1GB ddr2 800mhz
CPU and NB is watercooled.
SB is passively cooled.
If you need any other info, please don't hesitate to ask, I really need help. I don't get how the settings on the Extreme Tweaker work :| thanks guys!![]()
Try these settings for your G.Skill @ 1132; you may have to give it 2.14v - 2.20v.
Primary: 5-5-5-15-4-52-8-4
Secondary: 8-3-5-4-6-4-6
Tertiary: 16-6-1-6-6
There's no noticeable impact on performance
* What revised relaxed timings?
You can further enhance overclock by this:
5-5-5-15-5-55-10-5
8-3-5-4-6-4-6
18-7-1-6-6

GrnFinger what are your bios setting for your e8600 on your x38, im stuck at 4.4, on my maximus formula(does 500 FSB+)youve been a great help in this thread so far.
My Bios setup or just system?
Here's my System
Maximus Formula-1207 Bios-
E8600 820A324-Lapped 4.4Ghz 1.4v Under Load 1.425 in bios
My Load temps after 12 Hours Prime-61c
I could only do 4330 before lapping. I can post 4.5 and even game w 1.4v but no Prime or Othos stable.

Wheee - running 4.2Ghz the now - got 4.3GHz booting and stable but its a tad high for my liking... tried 4.4GHz again for lolz but not stable enough for screenshots ro anything

Use Prime small fft's to test cpu only first.
Your ram unlees its the older BT's will not be compatable with this board and you will experience alot of difficulties using it.
So I will concentrate on cpu only for now.

Tried the BIOS setup you gave, but it didn't boot. I increased the CPU voltage from 1.4 to 1.45 then 1.50, but still, same problem. I think the problem was with the RAM, since the BT lights didn't even light up for all boot-tests. Any other advice you can give?
Thanks for your help btw.

Grnfinger, you da man! With your settings I can finally push my G.Skills above their 1066 limit, am currently running them at 546Mhz.
Thanks for your help!
As this is fully memtest86 stable, I'm going to try and push them some more and tighten up the timings. I will post my final results once I'm done, but I was just wondering what voltage people here have put through their G.Skills without breaking them? Here I've seen 2.2V being mentioned but it seems a bit high for these sticks no? Currently I'm at 2.11 real and as I have a fan running over them, I am willing to go up a bit more...

Thanks for the tip waterflex! this is the windows based version where you have to open a couple of instances in order to test the full 4Gb right? If so then i should be all good as I've been using a combination of the two: first memtest to get an initial feel for the stability of the overclock without risking to corrupt any windows data, and then the windows-based memtest in combination with prime blend to fully confirm stability.
Another benefit i guess is that you can fine-tune your settings while staying in windows using memset, to then quickly check it without having to reboot. I reckon this can really speed the whole process of overclocking up alot.![]()

I've ran my setup for quite some time now, and it has been rock stable.
Now, I decided to get another 2x2GB of Mushkin Xtreme Performance RAM for 8GB total.
However, I can't seem to get it stable at all.
I've tried upping NB volts, DDR volts, FSB termination volts but doesnt seem to work.
Currently running BIOS 1004.
In theory, what values should you bump when going from 2x2GB to 4x2GB filling all slots?
I've also tried different setups for RAM settings.
Does anyone have a setup with a QX9650 that works with 8GB of RAM at 4 GHz ?
If so I would like to see your Extreme Tweaker settings to get an idea.
Would changing the BIOS to ie 1201 work better with a 8GB setup?
