    Hey Dual,

Half the stuff you mentioned I already did. Even with EFI turned off my F10 command doesn't work anymore in bios.

I already have Patriot Viper 1600 that I removed because I need 4 Gigs.

I haven't played with mem settings yet because I'm at work.

I will try to do a manual tweak with the mem tonight. Where's HPET? I forget that one.

    Thanks,

Good to know you got it going. OCZ really rocks, low timings and all. I had serious issues at first with my Plats but it was a really early BIOS. Once I could boot (with another brand stick) and flash to the latest, well it's been smooth ever since.
I guess Tony has been giving a little (big) hand to the Intel engineers, not sure they would go very far alone. Why won't they steal some guys from Asus and learn something?! By the way, Tony where are you? How's the new stuff coming up? No new releases for a (long) while now, where are the tRD and all other goodies we look forward to?!

Hey Manel, I see you got some connections . Who's Tony??

System is really stable. I'm going to start playing around with it. Seems that the 9450 can take a licking and keep on ticking.

    Hey Z
Tony is THE MAN at OCZ, he's been helping out Intel guys with some BIOS tweaking. He visits here every once in a while. You can find him at the OCZ support forum of course, he's a great help. I believe he travels a lot and his time is short.
Good to know your system is running smooth, I myself have been looking at that 4GB kit, when I feel the need to move from 2GB that might be the way to go. OCZ always has great timings.
Let us know how far you can take those babies.

    My Overclocking Experience

    Hey guys,
I have also this motherboard. My plan was simple. DX48BT2, Q9450 (2.66), OCZ (1,9V, 7-6-6-20 default), get it to 1600 FSB+3,2Ghz CPU and I hoped it will worked like a charm :-) Well, not really. This mobo really needs love and a lot of playing with the settings.

I was able in about half hour to put it on 1600 FSB by these two steps.
    1) CPU overide
    FSB 400 mhz
    Multi 6 (2.4 CPU underclocked)
    C1E disabled
    IESST disabled
    Mem overide
    REF 400
    MEM 1333 (memory not overclocked)
    vMEM 1,54 (default)

    2)Mem overide
    REF 400
    MEM 1600
    vMEM 1,82
    Other settings+voltages default.

With these two steps I was able to put mobo to 1600. If I set all walues at once mobo not post. By these two steps it post, also acts stable enought to boot Windows, but not pass memtest :-(
I tried nearly everything. Changing memory voltages higher, loosing timigs to 8-8-8-24. But I still get so many erros in mem test, about 30000.

I returned this memory to manufacer, I get new pair (1,8V, 7-7-6-20) -> same error. Well, it must be definitively by hands!!!

I started experimenting with voltages and discovered that pusshing vMCH 1,25 -> 1,35V will eliminate a lot of errors and also big continuous error. After that there were 10 or 20 errors per pass, so much less. I also tryied vMCH 1,45V and vFSB 1.3V not helped. Much more helped experimenting with advanded timing. Very good result was 7-7-6-20|54-5-10-6-6. But I allways get mem error 0002b12336c 689,1MB. Always the same error more times. I nearly went again to shop to return this pair.

LUCKYLY I found comment from TONY on OCZ forum to try to change 400/1600 to 333/1333. I already noticed that it gives mem at same speed 1600, so it looked useless to me.
IT HELPED A LOT! (Memtest passes at default voltages.)

Right now I can pass memtest and running Windows somehow stable. (Mobo often not post after hard power off, also ramdom reboots)

QUESTION: Do you guys know difference between settings 400/1600 or 333/1333? Is the speed same?

What I noticed more, is that THERE IS NO VOLTAGE THAT YOU SET! This really shocked me. It can be by power suply. My PSU is Enermax 625W. I thought it is enough, but now I'll definitivaly buy new 1000W at least.

Without enabled Enhanced Power Slope(EPS) vCPU is set to 1,325V, but in reality I had 1,18V. In high load it also 0,02 goes down. With EPS there is 1,25 deaful CPU voltage. But it is still not 1,325V. Same situation with vMCH. Right now I have set it to 1,4, but in fact here is 1,31.
QUESTION: Is it mobo, PSU, Intel tring to protect components, or beta Control Center? Can you please some of you install iDesktop Center and check the vaules it if is not only my issue?

Right now I'm nearly stable with this settings:
    vCPU 1,325
    EPS enabled
    C1E disabled
    EIST disabled
    multi 6x (2,4 CPU undeclocked)
    FSB 400
    vFSB 1,3
vMCH 1,4 (I discovered that increasing vMCH reduces reboots. On default settings it restart in about 10 minutes in Everest stress test. With higher Everest run 6 hours no restart, also pass memtest 2x)

    REF 333
    MEM 1333
    7-7-6-20|72-5-10-6-6
    vMEM 1,82V
    CL Auto (1T)

I'm still having reboots in after about 6-10 hours. I can run mem test whole time, Everest stres test, no problems. System is stable, but while playing Winamp 8 hours it reboots, it is really weird. I think it is not Graphic card as I previously read. I run GPU benchamrks many times. Also ATI tool scan for artefacts, no problems.

QUESTION: Can some of you guys please post default values for Core 2 Extreme at 400FSB also with MEM settings?

If you guys will have some ideas please write. This forum really helped me. This mobo is like a woman... First you must compltely understeand it, then it allows you to touch the beauty :-)

the frequencies will be the same, but the motherboard has tighter latencies at 333/1333, so its overall speed might be a little faster. you'll want to run the lowest boot strap that you can hit stable. 333/1333 shouldn't be a problem for you at 400 FSB.

i'm eyeballing the Asus Rampage pretty hard lately. i might be leaving this club soon.

    Screens

Thank you very much for that fast reply :-)
I also forget to post some screens. Actually I had reboot issue, so restarted :-/

That's great that it is a little faster :-)
I don't understead so much "you'll want to run the lowest boot strap that you can hit stable".
I can boot always to Windows without problems, when mobo post.

I now am sure Intel will let us out in the cold.
They have released IDCC v4.3.0.512 for DX58SO mobo, which probably means that IDCC v4.1.0.168 for our boards will never leave beta status as I expected. Also, I believe we can forget about new BIOS, they must all now be concentrated on DX58SO I guess.
Shame on you Intel, at least give us the long awaited new features. DX58SO has BIOS 2394 for starters. I guess we're stuck on 1814.
Funny thing is that DX58SO isn't mentioned on Intel website yet!!!

    Guma, wellcome.
You put it right, this board really is like a woman, you gotta know how to deal with it. First, she needs some attention and dedication, and then she'll do what you want.
CPU voltage will always be lower than 1.325V, at first I was also picking on this setting. Never really understood it anyway, since all procs are rated lower than that if you check the box or Intel website.
I wouldn't say you need a new PSU, 625W should be enough, even with the single 4870.
Maybe 400 FSB is too much for you board, it's a matter of luck with each sample, although if you can hit it maybe it's good.

I am a nex dx48bt2-owner, and I've the first question.
Can I trust the idcc-temperature? I've a q9300@2,66 running Boinc (dc), and it shows me around 37 degrees (C). I mean the CPU is watercooled, but this seems to be ab bit low for a quad at full load?

Hey friend, my temperature of CPU in idle is about 59 şT. On load it is much more.
I'm definitively confused with with these values in IDCC. What "şT" means? Degree Temperature? As I know there is degree Celsius şC, degree Farenheit şF, degree Kelvin şK, but never heard about şT :-/

Also in IDCC my vCPU is now 1,18 even with enabled Enhaced power slope. BIOS settings 1,325. Before I had 1,25 with exactly same settings, which is OK.

I rather believe Everest which shows CPU temp 38şC (cores about 45şC). On load CPU temp is shown about 60şC. Air cooled.

şT is Thermal Margin, not actual temp. As I believe you know, Core procs provide not the actual die temperatura but rather the safe margin left to Tj, which by the way differs between different procs, usually is 105şC or 95şC. So, what you're actually seeing is the difference between your core temp and this Tj which is your safe temp margin, your temp can rise that much until the CPU throtlles down or shutdown.
It goes about right with the readings with Everest 59+38=97şC which should be Tj (junction temp), give or take. Intel does not (I believe) provide the exact Tj for each proc, some people have tested and tried to get these values and found them accurate.
Regarding units, and this is just for info, don't take this wrong, degree Celsius and degree Farenheit is ok but you just don't use degree Kelvin, just Kelvin. It's a measure of absolute temperature, no negative numbers there. Just for info.

    My Bonetrail Build up problems

    Hi,
The last time I built a PC, it was a 486 at 33MHz. This is my first post in this forum, if I did something wrong with posting here, please be gentle.

I am now in the middle of a Bonetrail/Conroe build up. And I have problems, and don't know where to turn. In addition to the Bonetrail and Conroe, I have two 250MB Samsung SATA drives, a CD/DVD drive, an Avermedia TV card, an EVGA GeForce 9500 video card, an Apevia case and 680 watt power supply, 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, and XP media center for the OS.

The assembly was a breeze, and not having to worry about the IRQ jumpers like on the 486 is nice. I loaded the OS from the CDROMs, and I don't recall having seen any problems. When I then got the OS going, I noted that only one of the hard drives was mapped, it was C:, the CD/DVD was D:.

So, to try to review or correct things, here is step 1-
With the OS running, here are the interesting observations:

Windows Task Manager, Networking Tab, shows "No Active Network Adapters Found."

System Properties, I go to Hardware, and bring up Device Manager.
Under Disk Drives, it shows that there are two SAMSUNG HD250HJ
Under "? Other Devices", it shows "? Ethernet Controller".
    {the ? shows up as a bold yellow character}
When I double click on that, I see:
    Device Type: Other devices
    Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 0, device 25, function 0

    for status, it tells me:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers, click Reinstall Driver.

When I click it, I am asked to insert an installation CD. I didn't get one with the Bonetrail board, the DX38BT.

Here is step 2, checking the OS load.

Thinking I have a problem with the OS, I put in the Windows XP Media Center Edition, disk 1

    I run setup.exe there.

I get a GUI, Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP, with choices of "What do you want to do".
I click on Install optional Windows Components.
The following are checked: "Accessories and Utilities", "Internet Explorer", "Management and Monitoring Tools", "Networking Services", "Outlook Express", "Sonic DVD and CD Burning", "Update Root Certificates", "Windows Digital Media Enhancements", "Windows Media Player", "Windows Messenger". I click next, and finish, and it takes no time at all. Oh by the way, it says that IE will take 0.0MB, like it is already installed.

When I click on Start, I get the first choice of run options. It shows that I can go to the Internet with Internet Explorer, but the Icon I expect to see is not there. When I click on it, I am asked what I want to open that with, like Media Center, Notepad, Paint, etc.

    When I reboot, I see
    Marvell Adapter.....
    Adapter 1
    Disks Information
    No hard disks detected.

then the Windows xP splash screen comes up.

Here is step 3, checking the BIOS.

    Now I have rebooted again
So, here is some BIOS info:
    BIOS Version BTX3810.J.86A.1554.2008.0501.1628

    The Drive Configuration shows
    SATA Port 0 SAMSUNG HD250HJ
    SATA Port 1 SAMSUNG HD250HJ
SATA Port 2 Optiarc DVD RW A - ATAPI
    Hard Disk Pre-Delay [0]

    Hardware Monitoring
What is cool is that the BIOS reports that the processor temp is 47C, which looks close to the 40C on the meter on the front of the machine chassis.

    V12 12.187V
    V5 5.155V
    V3.3 3.266V
    V1.5 1.210V
    Vccp 1.277V

    Should V1.5 concern me?

What should I do at this point?
    thanks,
    Shemp

for OS install ONLY worry about CD/Intall drivers if the disk you are installing onto requires them, after the reboot, otherwise wait until after the OS is all up and running.

Most times the install drivers are still listed as 'F6" driver files even though in Vista/Windows 2008 they are not done this way... Its a carry over.

YES 1814 on the BIOS, AND if you have a USB keyboard DONOT ENABLED UEFI.

    Ramdom reboots

I'm posting update to my Overclocking experience.
I waas not able to keep mobo stable at 400, so I reverted BIOS settings to all default. (Load Optimal Defaults)

I'm running on all default values, but STILL having ramdom reboots. It's looking like some driver issue or HW problem.

I have Auzen X-FI Prelude 7.1 additional PCI soundcard. (Integrated disabled.)

PC, reboots while no activity. While playing MP3, or idle, once I connected USB device (on HW driver installation buble right low corner), and once when I just started Everest.

This is totally weird. I don't think it's HW issue because, reboots would be more regular, related to some activity (heat or load).

I also tryed installing ATI Catalyst drivers 8.7. No result.

    To Shemp
    Step 1:
Your hard drives are installed OK. You see only one because the second have not created any

    partition.
Click Start -> Run -> Enter "diskmgmt.msc". Here you shoud see both your drives and you are

    able to create partition.
"No Active Network Adapters Found" is beacause you don't have installed network driver.

Doesn't care about CD, just visit support.intel.com and download all drivers for your mobo.

    Step 2:
IE has 0,0 because it's part of OS.

    "Marvell Adapter.....
    Adapter 1
    Disks Information
    No hard disks detected."

This is OK, it tells you that you have not conected anything to old ATA interface. Your HDDs

    are connected on SATA ports.

    Step 3:
    "BTX3810.J.86A.1554.2008.0501.1628"
You should update your BIOS to 1814. You will find it on web page with drivers

    support.intel.com.

Your voltages looks better than mine(Everest):
    +1,5V 1,1589
    +3,3V 3,1797
    +5V 5,0 OK
    +12V 12,0 OK

The 3,3 is also why I think I have ramdom reboots. Can somebody confirm please?

Yes, your volts are too low, maybe that's the problem.
Also, I'd remove the Auzen Prelude card just to make sure it isn't some kind of conflict, maybe this board doesn't like that card. Or try different PCI slots or IRQs.

    Hmm.

Currently there is no BIOS listings for the board at Intel's site. Wonder if they are preparing for another release?

Have these guys at Intel been sleeping? Have you seen the changes, after over 2 months since te last one?
Seems they fixed the issue of no boot after power failure, at least they say they did. Said it before I believe and it's still there though.
Haven't tried it yet, downloaded just now.
