Until then, it all about reading and understand the concept of WC and OC!

Well you have come to the right place, with the right hardware

Read, read, read, ask question... try, repeat... that is my advice. And double the reading for the WCing. Allot of fun and very addictive, but heavy on the knowledge untill you get a good idea. The WC section is a bunch of great guys and will be more than willing to help out. If you need a hand or a point in the right direction, feel free to gimmie a PM and I would be glad to be of help

    Have fun!!!

If nothing else, play with it on stock volts and the cooling you have now. Practically zero risk and you may be surprised with the results. Dig in and have some fun with it!

Well I have a QX9650 @ 4Ghz 1.36v vcore, so I am quite happy with it. I thought about doing a Q9650, but I like the unlocked multi too much. Maybe in January I will sell it to upgrade to the Nehalam, but we will see what the new boards run. From what I have been seeing they will make the x48 boards blush when it comes to pricing.

the multi really is not locked it just will not go to 10 as mine was at 8 when I 1st put on my Rampage Formula & then i set it @ 9 got to 4GHz at 1.28V under load & 1.32 idling & that is with LLC disabled , 450 bus & FSB 1800 with out really tryin very hard

Ok, technically all CPU's are unlocked, but can go to 15 if I want to. My point was that since my board doesn't overclock past 450FSB very well the unlocked multi allows me more flexibility when trying to get everything to play nice whith each other. I am currently running at 416 x 9.5 because my G-Skill doesn't like to go past 1000mhz and so 416 works best for me. As far as the voltages go, I haven't played with them much and I suspect that I can go lower if I play with some of my other voltages like VTT. Either way, 1.36v is not that high for a quad chip in my books, especially considering I needed 1.55v with LLC enabled to get my Q6600 to 3.8v.

So, in summary, quit picking on me.

Can anyone comment on how much better a quad core is over a dual core? I mean do you even notice it if you arent coding movies and stuff?
