I have turned every rock possible with this issue and everything seems to point towards it being cpu related. I could have proved this but, I lapped my shiznit because it was / maybe still is, such a good chip and now I can't swap it for another at Micro Center.... I wish some one here lived close to me to because that would be another way to prove or disprove it.

Intel told them they should.... because it helps overclocking on some lower end CPUs "supposebly". I have never received a here is the reason from any of my contacts as of yet that was based on them getting the info from internally I will add though, that the tech I spoke with when this thing first started unfolding for me said he found what Leo said on some post on the internet / set to optimized gets you more fsb.

I quite honestly don't know what will be the cure. I doubt they will get rid of the setting itself, and therefore I don't know if there will be a permanent solution.
Overclocking was never an issue. I was running 3.8Ghz (475 X 8) easy from my very initial attempts - rock solid stable - 24/7. I never, ever thought that the at-the-time insignificant Shut Down issue would evolve to the monstrous bug our chips seems to have been dampened with.

Yep I was running at the same setting on the 1102 as I wasn't able to pull off my 480 x 8 setting that I can now yet. I am deeply sadened by the whole thing. Ket said we should all jump on the band wagon and harass them until they take the option out.I just shot an email to both the boss and the engineer.. asking for update.......

I just got rid of that odd double post problem with my board. All I did was clear cmos, load defaults, flash (with the same bios file), and clear cmos again. Now I dont have that odd double post everytime that I change settings in bios. I was a little worried about that.
BTW, this sucks I was really thinking about picking up a q9450.

Should I be worried here? All of my monitering programs are all over the place. I cant figure it out.
I see this type of stuff in cpuz too, ocassionally. I just ran prime for 12 and a half hours stable. There were dips and spikes like that on the 3.3v graph and the 12v graph, just not as many.

No problem. It's good to know what the 'official' limits are when overclocking anyway. Sounds like you are in good shape. From now on, these datasheets will be the first things I read before attempting to OC on a new chip. I was holding back on upping the Vtt because I had read somewhere that it was 1.15v for the Q9000...but when I read the datasheet, I realized that max only applied to the 3 series chipsets...not the 4 series like the PQ5's. So, I took your advice and upped the Vtt 2 notches to 1.18. Since I did that, I have had no failed posts and was able to prime 12 hours while reducing my DIMM volts a full 1v...sweet deal.
As far as the significant difference in max Vtt between the 3 and 4 series...I can only guess, but I suspect that the ICH10 NB was more than a simple die-shrink...I'm totally guessing here, but I think the ICH10 has much tighter control of voltages, so it allows a higher Vtt without risking excessive transient excursions of Vtt...just a guess though...
[EDIT] Nope, you folks are right...I didn't reduce Vdimm by 1v...more like .1v...still pretty good, eh?[/EDIT]

friggg, now mine will not shut down properly, shuts down, and tries to turn back on like a restart - have to load settings again as it flags overclock failed when I catch it and power off at the psu
on 803 with q9450 and everything else running normally. Not changed anything in bios to trigger this.
Sigh, will monitor and update on the thread

Alright, so I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Vista. System running rock solid stable without interruption at BIOS 0803 ..
... but ...
Shut Down Woes Persist!!!
This is NUTS!!!! I'm on 0803 and reinstalled OS. So it's neither BIOS, nor Software. The only thing I can think of something interrupting from the Hardware. I'll take it apart and put it back together - but this is still NUTS!! The problem started randomly - not after any upgrade/change/modification - just one fine day.
The only other nightmare I can think of is a permanent damage to my Chip or something from the whole CPU Margin Enhancement scandal.
I don't know. This is ballistic. Can't get rid of the damn Shut Down woes.

Beat that horse damn it beat it... I am curious about your power supply have you tested it? Also maybe your MB is really
ting out on you here. My guess is though that when you get the new one back you will still not be able to use > 0803.
