Most people aren't getting 20-30 fps to begin with. Another 10 fps is quite a big leap, thats the difference between slightly choppy gameplay and a pretty smooth 40 frames.

Also, CF has to help the min fps at higher resoultions, right?

Ya, so is the min the same with 4850 crossfire as it is with a single 4850?

I don't hear many people complain about microsutter... lol, I hear more about it then I hear about people saying "zomg, the microstutter is too much to take!"

Actually I just wanted to make a point, (that two 4870x2's were unjustifiable within this stage period of PC gaming) but then was called an idiot by people who didn't understand my point, so I wanted to respond to that.

If there is a GTX 280 SLI Scaling thread I'll say it there as well, of course.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

yah I had SNES but twas too much, had to revert back to NES. just like old people set in their ways don't like fancy little cars with computers in the dash, and annihilat0r doesn't like crossfire-x. Change is always hard to accept.

Who needs a NES? I can have the same amount of fun on my commodore so it's really a waste at this point in time to have anything more i think.

am i the only guy who noticed that the screen shots by the OP, and this isnt the OP's fault, are games that are no big deal.
DMC 4, UT 3, COD 4 come on,,,,
CoJ can be pretty intense and so can grid when you crank the AA and AF.

but why am i looking at those scores for those games and not really seeing anything that impressive ?,... ??

i have not checked the links yet for crysis and other games but i will do that.

dont take what i said as dogging the cards or the scores, they are great scores, maybe i was expecting more ?

yah im sure they'res a reason crysis isn't in there with 4xaa at 1900 VH. its because under 1 r700 it would be 23 FPS, and under CFX it would be 29.4 FPS

if its true that CF 4870x2 is overkill then were doing really good. companies can finally dish out some intense games and know that people can run them. imagine in a year when a 4870x2 costs 300$ and becomes the standard for what companies base their "normal" settings on. crysis will end up being left behind as a joke quite quickly.

my 2900xt/BE5000+ has lasted way too long at being able to play games at a decent level. my price point is abut 1200$ for a full system, and with current technology and prices, it can be enough to play almost any game at double the quality that i cared for, compared to the 1200 i spent on my current system and current games from the last year.

well they said crysis isn't cpu limted.

So I guess that would be GPU limted these drivers don't have the crossfire X sideport open yet

I'm sure crysis & maybe FSX needs this extra bandwidth.

probably come in a hotfix, so who knows....

Ummm.... you need to edit these alien numbers:
    STALKER. 2560x1600, MAX-DET, FULL-DYN-LIGHT, MAX AA
    MIN-MAX- AVG
    8800U-SLI 13 1913 138

    4870x2CFX 17 2192 207
Not played many games* since i have the card (1 week), but so far i'm VERY happy with it.
And to those still hesitating: it acts exactly like a single gpu card, and there is NO microstuttering.

    Really?! Measured in Fraps?

Hmm well for the performance all that counts is the AVG and MIN anyway.

The max fps is probably from the menu screen.

There must be a driver bug for your Lost Planet Dx10 CFX scaling. That game runs like a dream for me.. over 100fps on the snow benchmark in CrossfireX at 1920x, 4xAA, all DX10/High.

No, timedemo measurement is being run from console.

No, ingame timedemo measurement. But running fraps at the same time it reveales some areas where it bumps to 800fps. In obvious "high fps" areas of course, but still :P

In your Crysis bench i don't see whether it's full enthusiast, customized or gamer setting? Also the method to test isn't mentioned?

It says "we follow a similar test methodology as the 4870 X2," but that's not entirely the case so i wonder why it says that, it's confusing.

You are correct. I should elaborate. Testing was done on Very High. The testing method was the same as the 4870X2, I just needed elaborate that I used Very High settings only.

    Thanks.

ether.real my Crysis results differ from yours. Were you using the 8.9 Catalyst? I always see significant improvement on Crysis going to quadfire:

    http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33931539

Also, this inf error you mention with the driver is caused by using driver cleaner utilities most of the time. Did you use any? ATI's drivers don't like them; they will cause subsequent driver install errors.

I used the 8.54 drivers. The 8.9s werent out at the time, the 8.8s sucked IMO. 8.52s and 8.54s seemed to run the best. I got the inf error it seems at random intervals, whether I used DC or not.
