Asus Rampage vs DFI P45 T2RS with 4870X2 Crossfire

Compared X48 with P45 today. Unfortunately i dont have a DDR3 P45 board so its DDR2 on the DFI. Not sure yet if difference wil be (much) bigger with higher clocks on CPU but i think the cheap P45 did a nice job
Slots on the DFI are rather close, just enought space for the power connectors with dual slot cards:

    X48 Chipset:
    Asus Rampage Extreme
    E8600 Q820A597
    OCZ 12800 Plat

    PCP&C 1200w
    Vista 32b SP1
    Catalyst 8.8

very informative results. Interesting that vantage cpu test 2 is slightly quicker on ddr2 but test one is slower by a fair margin

Not too sure about gpuz but this version always reads me default clocks. 2.6 did a better job for clock info. I wil run single card soon to compare

Thanks mate much appreciated. I dont play games often (other then 3Dmarks) so excuse me for that. From what i have read though difference in games can be bigger in favoure of X48 but im not sure if its actually true.

Very nice comparison. Seems that DDR2 looses on 3d. I wonder how is possible Rampage to win on 3d but loose on superpi

X48 has 2 slots working 16x with crossfire, the p45 at 8x. DDR2 and DDR3 was necessary because i dont have P45 DDR3 board yet. It think its something in bios that makes the DFI very fast in 1M, only 1M though and with E0 chip...

great stuff always good to put some concrete numbers behind known facts (x16+x16 > x8+x8)

Nice comparison, it's made my mind up not to do anymore upgrading until Nehalem is out.

I wouldn't be happy running crossfire with those cards for any length of time given the very limited clearance between them!!
