I tried vmserver awile back and had problems, that was when SMP first came out though. Now that I have to many rigs to be worried about trying to find windows for every one then setting them up, that's 10 or more copys of windows and a lot of work, just not worth it to me. Why do I have to change my setups because Stanford can't build a straigt up working Smp client, just not going to happen. I will donate my time and money were it is more appreciated hopefully...

Hey RR, considering your experience, I'm guessing you read the threads suggesting removal of the -forceasm and -advmethods flags to solve the hang problems. In my limited testing that seemed to work. I'm greedy and want core 2 WUs so the -advmethods is a must. -forceasm is necessary on a restart to avoid lost work due to improper shutdown. Just thought I'd throw it out there in case you hadn't tried either.

So how many people are signed up? Enough for 3 teams?

RR, I'm running GPU only b/c SMP in all forms (5.91, 5.91, 6.22) is giving me a lot of problems and folding 24 hours for 1920 ppd is not worth it vs video cards, considering the power usage and heat dump in my room. I understand your problems.

Are you going to still run the gpu client?
    You must [not] advance.

My sister up in Dayton Ohio is still without power from all the rage which occurred the remnants of the hurricane moved though a week ago Last Saturday. Initially there were about 200,00 residents without power as of Yesterday that number had been reduced to 50,000. They moved out of Pensacola FL after being hit by 3 hurricanes they had enough. Almost 3 years ago they moved to Dayton and now been hit again and the worse part this is longer without power then they ever had in FL due to a hurricane. The power company is still not giving them any time frame as to when they will get power back there are still a lot of power lines down from tree limbs they had hurricane strength winds gusts for about 6 hours with sustained winds just below hurricane force for that same period of time its a real mess over there.

Don't mind my 0 points on saturday and barely anything on sunday - I went to a lan party and when I did so I transferred all network traffic straight to my laptop host (I have this really jumbled setup to make things work right now) and after doing that and packing up my PC I shut the UPS off - forgetting I had the laptop plugged into the switched outlets so it killed the laptop and consequently the internet to all the rest of the crunchers Of course I didn't notice until I was at the lan party and I wasn't back in town until last night, so....yeah

Power in ohio is mostly back now, but just FYI some people who are really frustrated with no power for so long, I understand, but the problem is now those little random spots of one or two houses each that take an hour or two to get working, there is no more fixing a couple lines and bam 1000 people are back up. Just beyond that phase now. I work at First Energy so I have an idea of what's going on. But I'm an intern in the IT department so I don't know everything however

Yea they are on the end of the street last house before the turn onto another street all houses on the street except them have power but the houses on the next street are all out so they guess that they are connected to the adjacent streets power line not their street line. They have been living on a couple of extension cords running over to the next door neighbor's house to supply power to their refrigerator and freezer. They are lucky that they have plenty of hurricane lamps from when they were in FL and their water heater is gas powered. Their stove is electric so they have been cooking on the gas grill outside or eating out only good thing is the temps have been pretty mild for the last 10 days so no AC has been needed.

I've been trying to think through how to make things interesting, generate plenty of competition and incentive to jack up PPD, and maintain some kind of balance as individuals crank up new production capacity.

Without making it too complicated, I'm thinking of some kind of weighted approach. Here's the idea:

Each racer would be slotted into a "production tier" - A, B, or C. A would be the uber high producers, B the middle, and C for those mere mortals who have a real life

The slotting would be based on past 30 days of production as calculated with a standard formula using EOC stats numbers.

Then during the race, we could multiply each racer's weekly output with a weighting factor from that teir. Bascially, this amounts to a handicap system. But it's probably too complicated for our simple little race!

coo-coo-clocker; you have some good ideas...We will in fact pull teams based upon XX day average production. I want to keep this as simple as possible...KISS principle. Open to all ideas that would contribute to a fun race & easy to calc. Remember, MikeB12 is a 'slacker'; he sleeps in, blames being late on traffic, and a whole host of other excuses...

    We do luv you MikeB12...

Shadowtester; if he gets up really early, perhaps noon... The sad news is that even if I got up very early, it would take me days, perhaps weeks to do the spreadsheets he does in a few minutes / hours.

I guess I just give him a written warning about his tardiness...It's just chronic.

that's a good one.. that's my old motorcycle forum name because I was on a Bandit1200.... looks like it a new moniker...

have yall seen this annoying alarm clock- the flying alarm clock.
could you imagine having this thing fly around the room at dark-o-thirty and dive bomb you..
    http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/9171/
The Flying Alarm Clock wakes you up with a loud shrieking alarm coupled with a little propeller-driven key that leaps off your nightstand. To turn off the horrible racket, you have to get out of bed and retrieve the key. The propeller flies the key high into the air and off into some dusty corner. You have to force your sleep addled brain into wakefulness, move your stiff legs and retrieve the key before the alarm goes off. By the time you've done so, you're awake enough at least to go make a pot of coffee.

Great news Mike, we are going to move your office to the basement, right next to the furnace...I talked it over with the Regional VP and he has given the green light for you to move in there (at least till you find new housing). Perhaps now you can make it to work on time? Also, the gas station just down the road opens early (6am) so you can wash up a bit...
