As if to mock me, I've been testing the one good stick out of the kit, and it only needs 2.05V real for 600MHz CAS5 on my P5B Deluxe

That must be irritating. If I were you, I'd do some xtreme overclocking with that good stick, using 2.5 - 3.0v If you kill it, it's going back with the other stick anyway, may as well try to get your monies worth because if they send you a 'Dark' kit in return that would be a shame to say the least. You've spent a lot of cash, you deserve to have more fun than you have had.

Shiranui Gen-An> Sounds like same happened to you that happened to my Cellshocks, got bad very quickly and started requiring more and more volts, first 2.2v, then 2.25v and then 2.3v and then it would require even more in the end so I RMA'd them. The sticks pretty much sucked though in OC so no big loss here.

Now if same thing will happen with the new sticks, I'll buy a new mobo without hesitation, Abit IP35 Pro isn't a fun board to have anyways for serious bios/mem tweakers. I miss the DFI BIOS.

What about the P5KE/Wifi? Is a good board for mem OC? I dont really know if its 2-phase vdimm.

Anyway, I don't think I'll pass 2.24vdimm, shipping cost from Spain to memoryc can cost me more than the RAM in case I need some RMA

I paid around 6 eur in shipping to Ireland from Finland when I sent them on RMA. Sending as a letter won't cost much, I think it was priority maxi letter or something like that.

Damnit, now I can't seem to get the bad Team Xtreem stick to boot again at whatever settings I try and up to 2.35v was tried after I visit my parents over the weekend and left the pc off. Hope the new CellShock sticks arrive from RMA soon. :/

Strangely enough, I was able to back down my BIOS voltage from 2.46 to 2.42 and get my Team Xtreem kit to pass memtest. Did the stick need some continual voltage for a spell or something? I'd been running the sticks pretty much all since last night.

I honestly doubt it, if it degraded at all, it's damaged. I doubt you could still boot it with 1.8v at SPD rating, or overclock as high on the same volts or run stable at a reasonable speed on low volts. You shouldn't have to run 2.4v+ to get stability. Keep trying and see though.

I think I'm also gonna order a Cellshock PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 D9GMH kit since they're still available and costs 51 EUR only in case the D9GKX simply doesn't work well on this board, can't be arsed to use 1GB ram for an extended period as I'm playing in a UT3 clan (it's a stuttering hell with single channel 1GB) and then either sell or keep one kit as backup or use em all when I'd need 4GB.

EDIT: Ordered, will keep you informed how it turns out.

Ordered a new mobo, getting tired of this Abit board which cannot even boot to dual channel DDR2-1200 no matter what kit (I've tried one that is capable on another board).

DFI LanParty UT P35-T2R Rev. A11 with exchanged thermal grease for better on the heatpipes and better sealed heatpipe. 590 FSB on air capable. Paying 110 EUR incl shipping, new in stores over here it costs 200 €.

Will try and push this CPU to 533x7.5 as my Abit dies after 500 FSB+ unless 7x or 6x multi is used it can go a bit above and with high NB voltage it can reach 540 or so. Can't wait!

I just RMA'd my PC2-9600 to Taiwan. It took 2 1/2 weeks from when you mailed to when they mailed. So, it takes about a month total. That is a long time. I might just sell mine when I get it back. I tried some Kingston HyperX PC2-9200 and they lasted for a about a day before I got a C1 error. I could only get them to run at 1069MHz too. But Newegg rocks as they came me a full refund, including return postage.

Yeah, the Egg done me right several times. I like doing business with them...even if it does take three days to ship to Dallas.

    Hmm, where to start....

I got the new mobo DFI UT P35-T2R today and it didn't meet my hopes. Well the most annoying about it was the quite loud high pitched noise during load (windows startup, orthos etc.). Then it didn't like the Cellshock kits at all, I'd say it was even slightly worse than the Abit board. So it's not only D9GKX chips it doesn't like, it doesn't like Cellshock kits at all for some reason. I wasn't even able to get 4-5-5-10 DDR2-1000 @ 2.2~2.23v stable.

The guy I bought it of was nice and accepted that he will return the money I paid for it as I'm going to send it back. It's a shame as it really looked like it would be a board I'd love and I liked the heavily configurable bios too.

BUT then I decided to give my old Gigabyte P35 DS4 a try that has been resting for like 8 months or so I think (when I was still using a E6750 cpu) as I wasn't sure if it was screwed up due to bios flashing or if it was infact incompability with the Team Xtreem ram with latest bios and to my suprise it booted up just fine with the Cellshock PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 D9GMH kit. Now I tried of course see how this board clocks the Cellshock kit and finally it seems I've found a mobo + ram that plays well together. It seems like this board runs the ram at 1000 4-4-4-x at pl7 even (abit board needed pl8 for this kit) and a voltage of 2.15v set in bios (+ Gigabyte P35 DS4 overvolting) ~= 2.21v. I haven't tried to see yet exactly how low it can go on timings or if it would do even go towards 1200. Mem performance is a notch better than on the Abit board too but it's only by a small margin.

I nearly ruined the OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler when I was installing the components quickly on the Gigabyte board as I nearly ruined one of the push pins that I had to bend back and then also managed to get a little piece of it breaking but it doesn't really affect the usability though. Was a bit upset after the DFI board didn't meet my hopes, so wasn't as calm and careful as I should be. I don't know how this board clocks my E8400 either but at least it does at least as good job at the Abit IP35 Pro board but I think it might even clock slightly better but that remains to be seen. It's late now, will have to try more tomorrow.

I don't know how this board clocks my E8400 either but at least it does at least as good job at the Abit IP35 Pro board but I think it might even clock slightly better but that remains to be seen. It's late now, will have to try more tomorrow.

At least I ran the Team Xtreem sticks just above 1 year in that board just fine at 2.21v. I have wanted to return to this board before, it's a really a stable board that did around 550 FSB with my previous cpu with only NB voltage upped slightly. Between Gigabyte P35 DS4, Abit IP35 Pro and the DFI UT P35-T2R the Gigabyte board is clearly the one that impresses and works best for me. I've also used a DS3R for a couple of days but it sucked (voltage regulation was way worse and unstable) and it's not even close to as good as the DS4, the DS4 is a lot more close to a DQ6 board in quality. I might have to order the Cellshock 1000 cl4 kit as it would prolly fly with this board but I'll see what this PC2-6400 can do first. The only prob I have with Gigabyte is the BIOS support. The boards are really good but the bioses and everything around it are buggy.

As far as the high pitch noise goes, it seems to not be so uncommon these days which can also be an issue for graphic cards too. It's coming from the voltage controllers. Must be more common issue for digital vrm boards I suppose. Some ppl might not even hear the noise (doubt my parents would for example as they wouldn't hear when an old TV had a constant high pitched whine either) as it's very high pitched and for others the fan noise or comp case might be blocking it but I'm not using a comp case and have "fairly" silent rig (not by a silentpc enthusiast's view tho of course :p). I can deal with the constant blowing fan noise but I can't deal with a variated high pitched whine.

Well at least it's clear for me now that it's all about finding a RAM kit + mobo that works well with each other. That it clocks bad in one board might not mean it will clock bad in another.

EDIT: Yay my cpu just passed 5 hrs orthos priming over the night at 1.375 voltage, I needed 1.39~1.4v on the abit board to be stable for couple of hrs. Used to need around 1.36v (for 500x8) at first with the Abit board but later on I had to up the voltage a bit, at 1.375v on the Abit board now I'd been aprox 10~15 mins stable for comparision. So this DS4 board totally rocks, next stop 1.36v. Seems like I've to try if 513x8 can be stable later on. My Abit board wouldn't let me do that without getting unstable no matter how I'd play with the voltages.
