Thought i'd post this here to see if anyone has any ideas...
I got a new rig up and running. DFI P35 T2R, Q6600, 4Gb Viper 1066, Etc. Vista will not recognize all four cores, Just 2. CPUZ is the same, along with Device Manager. Multi core is enabled in Bios, As is virtualization.
Any ideas?

Have you tried doing a BIOS reset?

Your q6600 is half dead?
I've seen an qx6850 which is half dead, only 2 cores work.

I have tried a BIOS reset, I'll try it once again after i finish installing some stuff.
I sure hope it isnt half dead...
It reads two cores on everything... Coretemp, CPUz, Device manager, task manager...
It doesnt list the amount of cores in the BIOS, Otherwise i'd hope it would say four there.
Im hoping to get this resolved before 4pm friday, headed to a LAN.

My guess is that it's something BIOS-related. Maybe there's a setting you overlooked.
Go to Start, then right click on Computer, then go to Properties. Under system information, is the CPU listed as a quad? It should look something like this.

Reinstall your cpu?
There might be some contact problem between socket and cpu.

Reset Bios, No luck. Messing with CPU options for a bit, Then gonna re-seat it.

Just finished re-seating the CPU,YES. It works.
I am so relieved... Didnt think something as simple as that would do it, But it did. Thanks for the speedy replies guys, It would be a very frustrating and lonely night of troubleshooting if it wasnt for this place.

Might you enlighten us on which version/type Vista? e.g. Business/Home Basic/Home Premium/Ultimate 32/64

im my bios I have to enable 4 cores or it will only run 2 of them. took me a few min to find that setting lol
Yeah, I have the same option, Multi core processing i think. It was on, Im not not sure why it wasn't working. I re-seated it, and it now works fine. I have Vista x64 Business, The version that wont read all cores is Vista Basic.
After an overnight stress test, it looks like 430x8 = 3.44Ghz will be the overclock for now. I'll do fine tuning later, for now it's at 1.45v. Max temp is 46C on full load, And the temps are spread very evenly, Looks like i got lucky and got a good mount. right now, On WCG, temps are 44-42-43-43. After the LAN, I'm hoping to keep the overclock above 3.2, But get the voltage down to 1.4v. Also, the memory has some room to spare, And ive seen people push it well beyond it's rated speed, So I'll have to tinker with that for awhile as well.

I think that is a flaw with the socket 775. somtimes the pins don't make great contact.
