    Talking [Team.AU]E8600@ 6.2GHz, EP45-EXTREME, 1xGigabyte GTX280, Corsairs Dominators 3D Test

    Hi guys

I just thought i'd check if this E8600 chip i have here is any good. Looks like it's not too bad heh......6.2GHz benchmarks were pretty easy...drooping to 1.88v under load with temps around -120C (i still haven't found the real load cold bug but it went as low as -131C so looks promising)

    Test Configuration:
    Gigabyte EP45 EXTREME Motherboard
(stock, no mods, needs a vcore mod bad because of droop heh)
    Intel Core2 Duo E8600 Q820A599
    2GB DDR2 PC10000 Corsair DOMINATORS
    1xGigabyte GTX280 Graphics Card
    620W Corsair PSU
    Stock heatsink on NB
kingpin F1 Extreme Edition Solid copper CPU LN2 Pot
    Big mamma 35L LN2 Dewar
    160GB PATA
    Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3

I haven't optimised the setup and RAM in particular as you can see...everything ran at auto settings....i've later tested PL10 which was fine but the setup was starting to go a bit shaky after 6 hours of messing around so i shut it down not to kill anything

btw the board has a nasty cold boot bug >> -76C eeek >> guess what > i can boot to 6Ghz even with that temp ROFL

    AQUAMARK3 - 333248 points
    - setup was in the shaky stage here....had to even drop the CPU clocks to get stability heh
poor result but i needed DDR3 and higher GPU clocks for some decent numbers....will try the EP45T-Extreme with AM3 i think

Impressive results Dinos, now jump over to the EP45T-Extreme and whack out some serious CAS7 runs

Yep looks like you got a keeper Dino. EP45T also good for even more serious CAS 5 runs too eh Chris? Can't get over how fast it can be with the timings all shaved down.

nice to see your scores at these clocks Dino, i just started my single card GTX 280 testing and should be
benching 3D at 6.15GHz shortly. it's nice having a baseline of what one should be seeing.

that E8600 looks like it is definitely one to work with, the low temp so far seems very promising. now get
it on a real board and see what it will do!
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

New BIOS makes CAS7 respectable along with CAS6 CAS7 with 1:2 on a QX is now about as fast/er as CAS5 with the QX on the 5:6 divider.

Really damn gotta give it a shot. I was messing around with 5-4-4-15 in the low 700's on a P5E64 Evo and it seemed pretty damn snappy.

    cheers fellas

yeah this chip should bench 6.3GHz i'm sure

i am still keeping vtt low (for this board)........1.5v to try and get some decent results but i could do 8M SuperPi runs at 640Mhz so it should be ok just need to do that droop mod now

    hahah thanks man
my results are far from optimised but it gives you an idea
i like having HWBOT open while benching to know where i'm at too heh

real board...............pffft ............i read your little review of the DDR3 version of this board....yeah you don't really like these guys much do ya

shoot, HWBot is almost always open on my workstation because i almost always have one system benching something.

and that EP45T-Extreme I received warranted the review it got i believe. Gigabyte was very receiving of the comments
and there was nothing over stated that shouldn't have been. with this new BIOS eliminating the terrible memory clocks,
a lot of the negative tone in that review would be eliminated...terrible cooling solution aside

you may just see something from that setup in the near future...it is making an appearance under cold soon i think

i have nothing against Gigabyte, i just call it like i see it. it's just that you Aussies just don't seem to run anything but so
i gotta give you some grief about it

    lol i'm just kidding
    your review is spot on
those things are in a need of fixing
i have to use slightly higher VTT to reach the same FSB in other board

not sure about your comment on vcore as i haven't tested against others well but the drop/droop is pretty bad so mod is needed there for sure

i think they have done a lot of good work with the DDR2 board bios

much more stable and just all round better Ocer

who says we don't run other stuff? cough cough

the EP45T-Extreme has had some massive refinement since the F2 BIOS days. It's really a completely different board, before F3B it blew, F3I(I think?) made it decent, and F4B made it competitive. Those Aussies do seem to use a lot of Gigabyte hardware..

yeah i know your just ribbing me Dino...that's all but expected, with a thumbs up thrown in every now and then
just to make sure we know we are still friends

this is true Gomeler, i just hate the idea that soooo many boards get released these days with an absolutely horrible
BIOS, Gigabyte isn't alone on this front. this EP45T was pretty bad though back then.

with that said, i just dusted the EP45T off and will get it setup and running again ASAP with the new F4B to see
what all the fuss is about

so apparently this BIOS is on the up and up, 930MHz+ was a no go no matter what before with this board.
literally my first boot after setting it up...

should be interesting to see what it will do with memory at 1100MHz compared to 790i, assuming they get there like others have
shown. it is a shame i can't get memory clocks that high with the RE. the next couple days i will spend with this guy seeing what
it can do, if it makes the grade, it will get the LN2 treatment with the E8600 or E8400 if FSB seems better than the RE.

yeah we don't update reviews...but the forum thread will definitely get some updates. i really wish i could be there
to see the event but HWC sent another guy to cover it, maybe next time.

one last screen before i head to bed...same exact settings as above, just upped FSB in ET. 1050MHz was dual 8m
stable as well with no adjustments

bandwidth seems to be scaling alright with FSB and mem clocks...kind of scary how easily these mem clocks are climbing too.

    holy smokes
what's the trick with such high bandwidths (tight ram or high freq what's better)

it would improve with CPU MHz as well wouldn't it
