    Hoping for a comeback

I believe everyone is waiting on BenchZowner to return. He was the one providing all the advise. He has been busy running his own website but has indicated he will try to return. I for one am waiting for the suggestions however I am getting some better understanding this bios but would very much like to improve my overclocking skills especially with these new options in this bios.

    Problem Description
System has been stable for a while now, no recent raid failure messages. Since I upper several voltage setting to get it stable before finding the right mix/combination I suspect some like the CPU Voltage may be too high. Today I drop the CPU voltage two notches, ran OCCT and found it to be stable. As I continue to drop the voltage given that the “right” ratio is important I was wondering what else I should drop in combination to the CPU voltage i.e. CPU PLL and or CPU VTT?

I have update my memory and also set SPP-MCP Ref Clock to 200 MHz

You're right, i should just be patient, but something that is strange about my machine's bios is that it doesn't have the CPU Level Up, it has Memory Level Up, then a space, then CPU Multiplier, but no CPU level up, i'm running revision 0901 with a Q9300, i just have no idea.

I am no expert but I have read of similar problems reported in these forums. If the problem occured after a bios flash and the user has not cleared the cmos at the time of the flash clearing the cmos and removing the battery for a short while to get a fully clear cmos has been reported to resolve such problems.

No you do not need to re-flash the bios you need to fully clear the bios. Taking the battery out does not erase the bios, your current flash will still be in effect.

oh cool, thanks a lot buddy, but can you tell me where this battery is and how i am supposed to take it out and put it back in? I don't want to do somethin wrong and lose this board.

Ok, nvm, i found it, it was under my graphics card, but now, how long should i leave it out?

Ok, just took it out and left it our for about 4 hours, then i put it back in, it hung on the bios screen twice before i left it off for a couple more hours, now it boots up, i go into the bios and it's all the same, still no CPU Level Up.

A few days ago i was freezing like everytime i booted no matter what i did, so i just decided, it, i'll reload all defaults in bios and see what happens, i boot up and i run flawlessly for 2 days, i power down when i go to bed, but all day it would be on and running, then today at about 6:00 pm, it's been on since like noon, it freezes, so i'm like damn, i thought i had it, and it freezes again and again... useless information, just wanted to share my story.

Sorry to hear your continued problem. This board takes way too much effort to get stable. I was ready to RMA several times. It took me a week of tweaking to get it stable. I was reading threads, reviews etc to better understand all the options in this bios. Anandtech's review article and tweaking suggestions got me started did not take me far enough. BenchZower and this tread was probably the key to making my board stable. I got my e8400 stable with a mild overclock to 3.6. I am hoping to forget the frustrating week trying to get this stable so I can drum up the courage to try again a 4G. Best of luck to you.

I have had this problem for a little over 3 months now and have fiddled a good amount trying to get lucky, but after your settings helped so significantly, i am hoping you can help me get this machine running like it should, thanks a lot.

It does support 8GBs of RAM, and Windows Vista x64 supports them as well.
The increased number of DIMMs and the increased capacity however applies more stress to the nFORCE memory controller and thus you need to fiddle with the settings and voltages again ( once you insert the other 2 DIMMs ) and of course will "limit" your overclocks ( not that you're close to the limit now, not at all, just a note ).
Let's try to get this thing fully stable as is, and then we can proceed into making it stable with all 4 DIMMs on.

ok this is what it have come to now. i have been trying to get this pc up and running stable for almost 2 months now, and nothing seems to be helping so I am ready to try something new now. i think the problem might be the ram not beening able to run with out problems with this motherbord so i am going to buy some new ram insted and throw the old ones out into the bin.

And here is where i ask you guys to give me a hand, what ram can run flawless with this bord? i don't really care what the price is, i have been using 4,5k $ on a PC i wanna throw out the window each time it freez up.

if you think that the problem maby is something els please tell me.

Thanks a lot dude, i punched them in and will let you know how it runs. And that's good news about the ram, i was worried that i had wasted all that money on a second pair of sticks. You're right, i would much rather run stable with 4GB than snap the 8GB in and try to get that goin right now. Thanks again man, you're the best.

    New Bios 1002

Anyone tried the new bios 1002?
Those that have, any noticeable benefit?
Took me a week to get this motherboard stable, I am not interested in updating the bios and have to possibly mess with the settings again if there is no noticeable benefit or improvement in say stability.

Nah, i heard 1002 wasn't as good as 0901, but that's not from my personal experience, if you're stable on 0901 i would suggest you stick with that, but wtf do i know.

Zowner, so far so good dude. After i punched in you're preferences i ran smoothly for the rest of the day which is better than it's done before, we'll see how it does the rest of the week but it's lookin pretty good. Thanks a bunch man.

Alright, before today my machine ran real well for a couple days, then today I was playin GRID and my game froze, but skype was still workin in the background. I tried ctrl+shift+Esc and nothin. I could alt+tab between icons, but it was stick with a black screen, with the tabs in the middle, and the start menu bar there, but i couldn't do anything. It's happened before, so there ya go.

Another video freeze. Mouse stuck, keyboard stuck, everything just stuck except my sound and skype were still workin, they could hear me talk, i could hear them. Should i try a different display driver?

    Disappointment

I is always disappointing when no one has anything good to say about a new bios. I am glad I am stable with a mild overclock. I would surely like to get greater stability with a real overclock i.e. 4Mhz and was hoping a new bios might help. Going thru these threads it is hard to see how this board got such a good review from Anandtech. BenchZower did warm me that this board was going to take some work. Was he ever right.

Yeah man, i'm sorry you're havin trouble with this board too. But don't listen to me, 1002 may very well be more stable with your setup. This board has been very frustrating indeed, more than I knew to expect.

Ambigious, yeah trying another GeForce driver might help ( I don't remember which driver I used to "play" a bit with GRID, so I can't tell if there's an issue with GRID and the 175.19 ).
Every other program/game runs fine now ?

Just about, yeah. I froze once when i was playin WoW, same thing with the video freeze and my sound was still working, and it was after i had left it idle for a long while. But just that time in WoW, and twice in GRID are the only times it's crashed since i punched in your settings. Well those are the only times i remember. Also, my machine stutters every now and then also. I was thinking of trying the GeForce 177.35 driver, what do you think? Also, is 6.1 a good choice as the motherboard's driver?

freezes after 15 minutes on Second Life, total lockup where the mouse and keyboard fail to respond. This board was RMA'ed to ASUS for the lockup problem, and ASUS sent back the same board with no changes that I can tell. Update: I am using the BIOS values above now, and so far my system is stable *knock on wood*

    Problem Description
Computer randomly freezes when playing games. Does not matter which games. Have had the

problem in iRacing, GTR Evolution, CoH Opposing fronts, and Football Manager 2008 which

are all the games i currently have installed. Happens in all ofthem. Seems OK when

running IE and on desktop, but as soon as I start playing games, it hangs within 10-30

    minuttes

I don't know if it's more stable or just better than 0901, but it's surely working fine with my settings from 0804,0901.
