ATI 4850/4870 voltmod thread

mine was not reference sapphire but the core just destroyed at 1.5V artifacts even at stock the mems was stock then unmodded duno yesterday i got it buck from rma this time they gave me reference but with 1Gb mem i was using ati tool for testing do you think furmark is better ?

I think you were unlucky and you got a bad sample. I hope your new is ok. Yeah, i think furmark streesses the gpu way more than atitool, specially if you set it above 1024*1024 or fullscreen, and it will also test the cooling solution of your card as after a while it gets really hot , way above you 'll ever experience in games and specially the mosfets.

Well, after a full day of gaming on the Palit card it started artifacting in Turbo mode...ATITool, 3DMark06, Vantage, games, everywhere...bah! I was so happy with this card too. It was the first 4870 that seemed to work properly right out of the box.

Anyway, took it to NCIX, they tested it and pronounced it DOA and gave me a refund. I did not even get an opportunity to mod it I think I am done with 4870s. My opinion about these cards has gone way downhill. I would not mind getting HD 4850s but I do not have a CF board so no point.

It really is too bad. I truly wanted to get back to ATI

WOW. And without any voltmod? Have to try myself that core speed Maybe there is a mhz wall like there was with the HD3800 series :P

someone how much voltage the 4850 Core can handle ? i got one and in 1.5 she got sic forever :p

every thing above 1.4v will hurt the GPU. I have also tested 1.6v but my card died in the 3D mode.

my card died in about 2 minutes with 1.5 :/

just as for furmark the card was realy cold at the mosfets the core is under water so 40*C on load i used 1680x1050 full screen but ati tool finds some artifacts on very high frequencys that furmark does not

these cards make crazy noises under serious heavy load... overclocked to 850mhz is even worse. Its like its about to blow up

well one of my card was wezing like a heavy smoker at 1.25 then let go and went boom.
the other all fine at 1.55(benches only)

This VMOD is for red PCB, but I have blue one. Two pictures of the problem:



Is there VMOD for blue PCB? Or does anyone know the bios who would raise GPU voltage?

use an exacto knife or razor blade to carefully scrape away the coating. you should see the pad then and use the multi to verify it is the same resistance measured earlier for the red cards. if it is you should be fine. also verify the other parts of the card are the same like the 1165MF etc.

Here is a few mins at 900mhz, again no vmod just flashed to Asus TOP bios. That is the max of the CCC with this bios.

Did you guys testing with Furmark, renamed the *.exe to f.exe for example? Frames looks a bit low for that clocks. If you rename the *.exe you will have a great increase in power draw, temperature, FPS and instability.

Here is my card running the standard benchmark of Fur with renamed *.exe, stock volts:



Will do the mod this weekend, let's see what clocks it can do then.

I^flashed my sapphire 4850hd.....
I edited with the latest version RBE the bios of my 4850, use the method 1 but selected bios 4870. :-( (128k)

I^am Flashed with atiwinflash and my 4850 now is not recognized by atiflash, atiwinflash, xp :-(
I do not flashing in any way because it is not recognized.
It xp works, the pc BOOT ok but is not recognized.
you can erase the bios bypassing pins some integrated?
Not that I could do please help?

It depends of the voltage ... At 1.3V it draws "only" 105W

Relax, pretty sure we can help u, do you have a spare PCi graphics? If u don't grab a pendrive or floppy disk.
