I know, I just got outbidded on some 16FD5. I'm pissed. I really need some decent RAM, although this single sided crap is clocking OK (DDR1021 right now) it's not fully compatible with my Asus board and so it only boots with 2 sticks installed maybe 1 in 50 tries. Once it's up and running it's fine, but I'm scared to remove it! It probably won't boot properly unless one stick is installed.

I'm sending this stuff back to Crucial (just wrote another email last night). This will be my 4th set since 2005. The current Ballistix I have is batch 97432, the infamous sh1tty batch. It's so hard to find good RAM nowadays. I will give the new revision a try, though. If it's still not compatible I'll sell it and keep an eye open for some good Ballistix.

Some guy in the area here is selling a set of the non tracers 8500's. The batch's are

    BL12864AA1065.16FD5
    BL12864AA106A.8FE5

Would it be worth it to grab them? Currently I have a set of BL12864AL 1065 16FD3 and looking for a total of 4gigs.

I PM'd him a few days ago about those, basically asking if he'd ship to the UK. Haven't heard back, but I don't mind because I bought CellShock DDR1000 C4 instead. Maybe the dude isn't around but those FD5's are probably worth grabbing. If you live in the US, that is.

I wouldn't totally write off current Ballistix, btw. A lot of people are against the single sided modules but they're not so bad. I have a 2x1GB DDR2-800 kit that will easily do around 1050MHz on stock volts. Nothing spectacular but they have served me well for many months, only now they're not fully compatible with this P5Q-E board. Price difference between these sticks and some high quality CellShock is significant, so it's hard not to see they have great price to performance ratio. My problem is getting the machine to boot with more than one module installed. It will do it eventually, but as soon as power is cut from the board completely... no boot.

Damn wish you guys with the .16fd5's lived in Australia. Shipping would cost more than the ram itself. If anyone lives near them, grab it, it's great. If you don't, you deserve a forehead slap
