3oh6, your result with the nylon washer ecouraged me to get some of those washers but i wonder, did you remove the very small black washers that are in between the motherboard and the heatpipe construction?

These small washers seem to hinder good contact i reckon.

NB is at 45ºC idle at 1.5V yet.

3oh6, great info there, thanks a lot for sharing man

Given your sub-zero success I think I'll opt for 0206 then.

I've got a bit of time on my hands and prepping/insulating to do, so I'll certainly go for applying the washers.

Don't want to tempt fate, but makes a change to read so much positive stuff about a board. Certainly of late anyway.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply JaVa_Az. I do have a clean work area. Any idea if there are available replacements for those, just in case?

Not sure where you can get some where your at but what is on there stock is 0.5mm thickness same stuff used right next to the northbridge. I know koolance carries it but that is here in the states would cost alot to ship over there. here is a link they just sell it in two sheet packs one 0.5mm and the other is 1.0mm http://www.koolance.com/water-coolin...product_id=580
I really doubt you would have a problem with it. It is not sticky should come off without tearing. But i guess better safe then sorry. So any kind of 0.5mm thermal pad would do.

    no problem guys.

@zeus, i did in fact still use the little black washers. i would call them rubber grommets before i would washers. i figured leaving them there would be a bit of a safety net to avoid over tightening too much as they should compress enough anyway. at some point if the assembly comes off again i might try without to see if there is any advantage.
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

    Ah ok, thanks.

Yeah, i think washers isn't the right name, i think spacers is more suitable.

I left the two at the NB area out, hoping to get a bit more pressure on the NB but seeing your and maxxx' result i guess it's best to leave them there as you say as a safety net.

Do you have an idea how thick the washers are you used on the backside of the board, looking at the pic i'd say at least 2mm?

Another thing i found is that i need much more Vdimm for the same DDR1800 7-6-5-18 at 600FSB than i need with 450FSB, has your board the same?

Having a strange issue with bios 0501 in that it doesn't initialize my raid controller when I first power the system on. I have to ctrl-alt-del to soft reset after the first pass through POST in order to make it work. This is new since 'upgrading' to 0501 - anyone seen this problem? Anything that can be done about it?

Not sure what can be done about it, But i dont have that problem see's my controller every time. Just to verify are you using the intel raid or the marvel or both. I know some people have complained about weird stuff while using both. I just have the intel going on mine.

I can't even flash my mobo to the new BIOS revision...it hangs after flashing...i had to switch to the 2nd BIOS and do that flashback thing to get the original one back...tried flashing 3 times and it won't work....also my mobo doesn't shut down...everytime I hit the power button the PC just restarts....I'm RMAing this piece of junk. Hopefully this is an isolated issue.

Does anyone know of any issues running the QX9770 with this board?

How are you flashing it you using the ez flash and did you set bios defaults before using it ?

I got the washers below from Home Depot. IIRC they were less than $1 per package.

I don't have access to the back of my board but I am sure one of these two sizes should work. The #4 washers are the smaller of the two.

can anyone give me there thoughts on the sound card that come with this mobo? Would there be any improvement in buying the Xonar? Dose the supplyed sound card suffer with Snap crackle and pop?

    Thanks

    BTW folks..

I took it apart and the NB does not make very good contact with the base. If you place a small amount of thermal paste, apply pressure and remove it, it does not seem to make a very good seal - part of the problem may be that just a fraction of the copper base is actually below the surrounding black portion. I ended up putting a bit more paste to satisfy the difference.

This is an extremely awesome thread, and it has helped me decide on the Asus Rampage Extreme Motherboard, as well as many ideas on what to do about the cooling also.

I plan to buy this motherboard for my next build, which I hope to get done with in the next couple of months, and I am wondering if anyone has ran a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 on this board and I am curious on how well it works.

As for RAM, I have seen that a member named eternal_fantasy uses CellShock RAM on this motherboard, and I cannot find that brand on NewEgg nor TigerDirect. As I was curious on how much it costs compared to some of the G.Skill RAM. I thought about Corsair RAM, but since I have heard so many complaints on RAM compatibility, I'm worried on this the most right now.

All help and information is/are greatly appreciated!

Is this with a PCI-E raid card? The problem I had with bios 403 was that if Intel Raid (onboard) was enabled it will not work with my PCI-E card.
I had to use either but not both (If I wanted to use PCI-E raid card intel onboard had to be set as IDE otherwise there were major issues).
I havent tried the raid card with 501 but I will do so tonight and see what the result is.

I am running a QX9770 with no isues at all on this board. Currently running 10x400 with 1.325v in bios. This is wiht 8GB of DDR3. It seems I can not increase the FSB past 400 or the memory past 1600MHz (most probably I could if I were to run 2Gb or 4Gb isntead of 8GB - but I am happy with the overall speed and the amount of memory).

    @ ACE76 :- MnM is right. I'm under air but if you're using a QX9770 don't go looking for huge FSB's.

Would have loved 500x8 but now 450x9 is my goal but even that is looking doubtful. On my third set of memory too - started with 4x1Gb OCZ 2000C9, then tried 2x2Gb G.Skill PI 1600C7 and now using 2x1Gb Corsair Dominator 1800C7.

Any updates on the 0503 bios ??

This is with the HighPoint 3320 PCI-E raid controller. I have no drives on the built in controllers other than a BD-R. Strangley though, it won't initialize the raid bios on the first pass (after POST it does the unable to find a boot device thing) - but ctrl-alt-del for a soft restart and it all works fine. Just really weird.

There is definitley a problem with leaking on the NB waterblock so beware. I'm looking at it carefully off the board and running test and there are faint drip marks that appear over time that may not be visible on your initial setup, i'm going to use some sort of seal and change those small hoses they provide with something better since I think the problem may lie with the clamps biting into them and causing small hole or cracks...take a look folks...very carefully and see.

A dumb question. When you hit the "CLR CMOS" button, do the settings get cleared from both BIOSes or just the one that you boot into, which is set as the active one.
