I want to, but it's $100 more than the 8500's. $365.50 for 8600 and $258.50 for 8500. I think I'll hold onto this 8400 for a little bit longer an wait for the prices to fall a bit, I have new ram coming, and I also want a Maximus II Formula, so waiting as long as I can would be the most sensible option and easier on the wallet. M2F's are rare here, not sure why, I don't know whether to wait for the price to drop on it too, and risk not getting one at all.

So i guess the MAX oc should be around 4.0-4.2ghz for a possible no degradation.. at 1.20-1.25v .. is this plausible?
I may consider a Maximus Formula II as well as many ppl seem to state it is a better preforming motherboard .. its about $90.00 here in Canada then the P5Q Deluxe, but at the time i bought this P5Q Deluxe .... The Maximus II was around $150.00 More . so i opted for this P5Q Deluxe, but i am still not sure if it is MOBO causing the Degradtion ... or the Q6600 sucked arse and degraded.
Does the Wolfies Degrade on Maximus Formula II .. mobo ? .. any reports of it .. or is it mobo specific?
I am wondering if these P5Q Deluxes are causing the so called degradtion and not the CPU itself???

This board was initially making me really happy.
Now, not so much
It had died for a bit there & wouldn't POST.
But yesterday it decided it's going to POST w/o issues all the time now...
And this was happening before right around the time the board starting being funny, but now it's really pissing me off.
I have 6 HDDs internally connected, & one optical drive (all via SATA, two using the Marvell connectors).
Every single drive works just fine.
Every single power connectors provides power.
Every single SATA cable works fine.
Every SATA port works fine.
I spent like 4 hours last night testing every possible configuration, & i've determined:
If i have all seven hooked up, one of the devices will be dropped.
As in, not existing in the bios or an OS.
The infuriating thing is, it's somewhat random which port will disappear.
Sometimes it's one of the Intel ones, others its a Marvell one.
But every single configuration, one device doesn't get recognized when i boot.
It's effing ridiculous, as it worked just fine before, but now, nope.

And you got all that hardware hooked up to a 520 HX ? amasing that it coped that... you must be maxing out the 12 volt rails for sure... what happens if you remove 2 dimms and no OC ?

hmm is cpu z reading things right? my e8400 volts @ 1.25625 show up as 1.2250@load when I disable load line calibration (with load line on it shows as 1.24). I wonder if I should retest for stability?
*update video crashed twice with load line calibration off, I originally had it on auto and it didn't have any problems I guess I need to leave it on auto permanently. Not sure if this belongs in this thread of the e8400 thread

Thanks for the reply, Having it on auto seems to turn it on since my system becomes stable and voltage shows up as 1.24 in cpuz, I dunno. I'm running the latest 8/25 1306bios..
By the way beast, did you disable c1e for stability or you just didn't like it? What about intel c-state? (looking at your template)

No i just did it as many have those settings as to what i have in my template, so i went with the norm....
Also with C1E enabled you get that little Vdroop more.

I haven't updated my sig.
I have an HX1000. And that with a stock QX6850 & just 2 GB Mushkin is what i was trying with last night.
And the HX520 is more than enough anyway; it handled that system with an HD3870 X2 easily.
People overestimate how much power they need most of the time.
I don't understand how what's happening is though...& btw, i tried three different bioses too...same issue.

K for the PSU part and does it loose the drives too in the bios ? or is it only in windows ? IDE or ACHI mode ? ENHANCED or COMPATIBLE for IDE ?

I just don't get it though...it's not logical. If i have all seven hooked up, one of the devices will be dropped.
As in, not existing in the bios or an OS.
The infuriating thing is, it's somewhat random which port will disappear.
Sometimes it's one of the Intel ones, others its a Marvell one.
I'm a tech...so narrowing down issues isn't terribly hard for me; i have to do it 5 days a week.
But there's no damn narrowing thisdown.
It can any of the HDDs, or the DVD-RW.
It can be with any of the cables.
Any of the power connectors. (& i tried adaptors, different connections on the PSU, everything).
But every single time, one of the 7 will not appear.
It's usually Marvell port #2, but sometimes it's one of the Intel ones, #3 IIRC.
I tried every single thing imaginable...i effing hate problems that can't be quantified though.
The eSATA on the back still works btw...so with that it's technically 7 devices, but still, then the 8th doesn't work.
Grrrrrrrrrrr

Do tell more please.
Okay, so maybe i was imagining that one of the Intel ports wasn't working last night...i was pretty tired & frustrated.
But right now, one of the Marvell ones is absolutely not working every time.
So i finally decided to read the manual & dig around in the Drive Expert Options in the bios.
From the first day i had this board till this recent BS all the HDDs were working fine, using both "Drive Expert" Marvell ports as separate drives (i don't use RAID or any of the options for those).
I never touched any of the "Drive Expert" settings before, since auto was working fine, & i don't want RAID, etc.
Yet now it seems the "Drive Expert" ports are set to only allow one HDD to run according to this in the bios?
The manual contradicts this & says "Normal Mode" allows for two SATA HDDs.
I quote from the manual:
I try updating to "Normal Mode", & of course, same issue...no second device on the Marvell ports.Update To Normal Mode [Press Enter]
This item appears only when you set the Drive Expert Mode Update item to [Mode Change] and uses the orange SATA port labeled SATA_E1 (port 0) and the white SATA port labeled SATA_E2 (port 1) as normal SATA ports.
I just flashed back to one of the old bioses i liked, 0901, but nope, still won't show second HDD.
This is really frustrating.

Hmm, try uninstalling the drive expert software and see if the software is farking with the bios. I am positive that I had my 2 drives working normally in these ports when I was mucking about with the feature

Nope.
It can be any of my different brands of HDDs, or the DVDRW.
It's basically like the Joker's trick.
Except instead of making a pencil disappear, it makes one SATA device disappear.
I installed the Drive Expert software to see what it looked like.
It looked like fail.
That's with both HDDs hooked up, set to Normal Mode (to allow two non-RAID HDDs).

The manual says you can do it.
The bios says otherwise.
I had two standalone HDDs in those ports working just fine up until a couple weeks ago.
Anyway, i just remounted my heatsink & did AS5 this time instead of ICD7, & swapped the SATA DVDRW for an IDE one.
That way i can use my HDDs & an optical drive.
