I'm a tech...so narrowing down issues isn't terribly hard for me; i have to do it 5 days a week.

But there's no damn narrowing this down.

It can any of the HDDs, or the DVD-RW.

It can be with any of the cables.

Any of the power connectors. (& i tried adaptors, different connections on the PSU, everything).

But every single time, one of the 7 will not appear.

It's usually Marvell port #2, but sometimes it's one of the Intel ones, #3 IIRC.

I tried every single thing imaginable...i effing hate problems that can't be quantified though.

The eSATA on the back still works btw...so with that it's technically 7 devices, but still, then the 8th doesn't work.

    Grrrrrrrrrrr

Sounds sorta like what my problem started at sorta.

Okay, so maybe i was imagining that one of the Intel ports wasn't working last night...i was pretty tired & frustrated.

But right now, one of the Marvell ones is absolutely not working every time.

So i finally decided to read the manual & dig around in the Drive Expert Options in the bios.
From the first day i had this board till this recent BS all the HDDs were working fine, using both "Drive Expert" Marvell ports as separate drives (i don't use RAID or any of the options for those).
I never touched any of the "Drive Expert" settings before, since auto was working fine, & i don't want RAID, etc.

Yet now it seems the "Drive Expert" ports are set to only allow one HDD to run according to this in the bios?

The manual contradicts this & says "Normal Mode" allows for two SATA HDDs.

    I quote from the manual:
Update To Normal Mode [Press Enter]
This item appears only when you set the Drive Expert Mode Update item to [Mode Change] and uses the orange SATA port labeled SATA_E1 (port 0) and the white SATA port labeled SATA_E2 (port 1) as normal SATA ports.
I try updating to "Normal Mode", & of course, same issue...no second device on the Marvell ports.

I just flashed back to one of the old bioses i liked, 0901, but nope, still won't show second HDD.

    This is really frustrating.

Do you really need to use those Marvell ports? From what i've read the Intel ICH10R controller is faster in RAID 0 than the "Speeding RAID 0/1" so i'd just use the Intel unless you have no choice.

It's not about speed or RAID.

I want all 6 HDDs working, & i'd prefer to have the optical drive SATA.

If the Intel SATA #6 port wasn't blocked by the video card, i'd be using 7 or 8 HDDs actually.
