I had a similar issue which I put down to bios issue. I ran all day at 3.6 as normal then BSOD. Had a hell of a time trying to reload software.
Went to bios 803 and keeping it, reloaded vista 64
Overclock works but have ditched drive expert backup mode (what i was using on 1201 bios) and using IDE mode
Can't afford to get BSOD and keep reloading, but overclocks fine with 803
(disk checked both drives fine)

Hmm now you guys got me thinking that maybe, just maybe 1201 bios was working OK pasiing linnypackss and then all of a sudden it fudged up like i stated and maybe with 1301 the so called memory compatibilty BS the added is more BS then 1201 had .. maybe it is fudged already.. hmm
Now i am thinking ... maybe cause Leeghoofd has same ram and you two guys above this post have similar ram from similar company .. that maybe 0803 is the ebst for these modules.
Also my ram and Leeghoofd is not a rated QLV listed in for this mobo and i tell you why...
Simple the actual dividers are not anywhere consistant when OCing ... for instance i am at 847 (who the frig hears of that) and at 3.6ghz it was at 921 (who the frig hears of that) and i know on a Maximus Formula II mobo my friend has .. he has the same ram as me as we bought at same time and he is at 3.6ghz Q9460 8GB of memory at is at (I think 950 mhz) see... bang on 950 mhz .. not crap like 921 mhz.
So maybe issues with modules and Bios settings like we all maybe thinking and all of a sudden the divider in bios 1201 and 1306 are telling me . take that ram out as it can't handle it...or down clock ....
Myabe i was thinking of gett the G.Skill 4GB 8500 memory as many seem to like it here at XS. so maybe i may get it anyway and go higher on memory mhz with it.
Or does anyone suggest for this MOBO good 8500 = 1066 mhz memory for it . QVL preffered?
i may drop to bios 0803 to test if it is memory or CPU issue before i get all excited and get new ram...![]()

Frigg hope not, I'll do some testing tonight and see if its still prime stable.
Wasnt away from 803 for long but tried 1201 and 1303
I noticed that it was not speed stepping before all this happened, put it down to bios quirk at the time. Its speed stepping now in std clocks. I'll get back to the thread later.

Bios 1306 working fine here:
Temps are with TjMax = 100c as per Intel spec. The are too high to push any more out of this E8400 C0 but happy with the volts required for the mhz
Turned out my new cellshock ram combined with my ballistix needed 2.3+ volts to run 1200mhz so backed down to 1000mhz 1:1 and now only 2.17 real is required for 1000mhz. NOTE: 1306 bios is overvolting more for me on the ram too. 2.12 set in the bios is giving me 2.17 real so this bios is overvolting for me by +.05 as opposed to 1203 bios which was overvolting by +.02. This setup is giving me the following memory performance:
Performance at 1200mhz was as per the below so no great shakes to me for the slight loss of performance in order to keep my precious D9's safe!

Once again I can confirm everyboard is "unique", I flashed to the 1306 BIOS, and once again I got different VDIMM readout, however this time mine readout are closer to Cryptik, whereas on 1201 we both had very different readouts, mine was overvolting by 0.08 and his was basicly the same as set in the BIOS.
Here are some quick readouts ( I did a proper clearCMOS + cleaned the probs of my $7 multimeter):
BIOS/IDLE(real)/LOAD(real)
1.96 | 1.95 | 1.96
1.98 | 1.97 | 1.98
2.10 | 2.09 | 2.09/2.10
*edit I tried also Disable/Enable: Mem Charger/ DRAM trainer / Loadline calibration, to see if there where any difference, but unfortunately NOT!

Ok guys I flashed back to 0803 bios.
I tried 9 x 400 for the heck of it = 3.6ghz and ram DDR 800 and i put all other settings for volts and such as per my usual settings in bios 1201 and 1306 which i can't get my 3.6ghz run linpack 1.4 stable any more.
Ok after setting it all in bios like i usually have, but i used 9 x 400 instead of 8 x 450.
I loaded up to windows and i loaded up linpack 1.4 and it BSOD 0x0000124 the first loop did not even finish.
So i then said WTF? tried this older bios thinking maybe 1201 and 1306 is fudged and all who have been reading my issue (in this thread on this page) will know what i am talking about.
So i figured i would try 8 x 445 = 3.560mhz and ram is at DDR 890 loaded up windows and the linpack 1.4 and i tried running 5 loops max settings like i usually run and it ran 3 loops all passed, but as soon at it was running 4 loops.. BSOD 0x0000124 again.... so i am now am really thinking WTF?????
So i then try again 8 x 425 and all passes 5 loops...... hmm
I can't see my CPU degrading 200 mhz OC in 2-3 weeks since having it???
I am thinking and i hope you guys can tell me if i am right or not .... thats its the MOBO's Memory Controller ... flaking out at the higher FSB now.. or my CPU is fudge now.

I think I'll go run linpack again, just came from 803 and don't need any probs. Linpack did run initially the same as 803 with 1306.

What was the issue he said specifically?
My symptoms were first speedstep loss, then BSOD then hard to load OS again
I think I am back to normal now, used the jumper reset, and firmly using 803. I am using my normal Bios settings in my signature and its running 3.6 speed step and prime95 small running right now with no problems
Going to stick with 803 and current settings until more time passes (mature bios), as I think it was just a bad flash to 1201 or 1303 & maybe I uploaded an old overclock profile which "confused" it. I can't remember doing this but its possible.
I know for the future that if my speedstep stops working for the same bios then its reset and reflash time
I could not get raid1 nor driveexpert backup to work for any length of time so I am just staying away from that - fed up reloading OS. I could not get acronis true image to restore but I think it could have been the express gate interferring with the acronis loader. When I get 6hrs out of prime I'll try the software again. If it works I'm done with raid/drive expert for good
So far so good with prime "fingers crossed"
Previously I did ~6hrs each small, large & then blend and it was good so I'll just run the small test and if its good I'll be happy enough.
Man I don't know how you guys can get the overclock with 1.2* volts, I'm 1.34375 for 3.6 and I need them all

That's amazing... Welcome to the club my friend.. Nope it's not the BIOS It's your chip burning out whatever that setting manages on the cpu.. I can't believe I have some one in the boat with me now, about time. I fealt lonely. If you want I will tell the manager that I found another person. What is your week markings on your chip though. Also if you use 0803 you will have issues no more.
Edit: I bet we get new chips..

What should the margin enchancement be set to? I'm on a X3350 which is basically a Q9450 as you all know. I left the setting as Optimized, is this safe with BIOS 1306? So far i'm just as stable at 3.66ghz as I was at 1201 and 0803 before that.
I would go with the 0803 if I was you.

lol Intel are the ones that told them to add it I think so technicaly.. I know that it screwed my chip up because my Q6600 works fine with newer revisions on this board not that I left it in there for more then a few hours thank god. It took me alot,, of hours of trouble shooting and swapping parts and testing parts to spot what the issue was and it is for sure what is going on here.
