    P5Bdeluxe wifi doesn't like my E8600

So I got this E8600 and I put it right in my P5B deluxe Wifi because it's always been a great OCer so far. I fired it up for the first time and I get this message.

It will still work, but I have to push F1 at every boot up.

OK, I've got to update the BIOS. No problem, I go to the Asus site to get the latest BIOS update and I can't get to the right page because it's too busy. Awesome!
So I finally get the new BIOS update and now I'm using the 1236 BIOS . Great.
So I start trying to OC this new E8600. I start at 4.5(450X10) and it boots right into Windows. Cool. So I try 4.6.
Weeellllll, apparently I can't raise the voltage at all. After booting at 4.5 I go into the BIOS to raise the FSB to 460X10 and I notice the CPU voltage is on Auto??? HUH??!! I set it at 1.36 when I set the FSB to 450. So I click on the voltage to set it manually and I get no options besides auto...???!!! Here's a pict of what I'm seeing. Notice how the voltage is yellow.

So I guess I can't change to voltage. If I leave it on auto I can set it to 4.0 and it sets the vcore to 1.32 or so and I've been running Orthos for an hour or so this afternoon. I'd like to go higher, but at 4.5 it sets the vcore at 1.45675. A little high for me so the question is: Are the P5B and the E8600 not really OC compatible? I guess they are a little, but it sounds like if I want to get more out of the E8600 I need a new board. Can anyone else think of something missed.
Oh, 1 more thing. I can't change the multi. It will only stay on auto. I disabled speedstep,C1E ect. Any help out there? Please????

It does appear that the P5B does not fully support that cpu. I can't give you any assistance, but perhaps someone has tried the same combination and can help you out. Have you tried any other cpu's like e8400 or e8500?

Yeah, the E8400 works great in the P5B. I had to update the BIOS first or it wouldn't POST, but I got it running stable at 4.0Ghz.
My E8400 isn't the greatest OCer though. I did a few suicide runs with it and I needed 1.648v to get to 4.6, and that was just for a superPi run. At least I got it stable at 4.0 Ghz though. Thanks for the response.

make sure speed step is turned off (C1E and CPU TM Support). Also, try using the the + and - keys to see if it'll let you change the voltage.

Unless the above suggestion works (using +/- keys) it looks like you're out of luck. I think though it may be time to upgrade from the old P5B, for the sake of more OC'ing options, and also better performance board-wise. And now that the board doesn't appear to support the cpu, it's as good an excuse as any

I discovered I can set the voltage at just under 1.3 and it will accept that voltage so I guess the board limits the voltage and subsequently limits the OC. I ran this 4.0Ghz at 1.25v in BIOS and it seems stable, I was hoping to go higher. If I restart it reverts to auto, but if I restart again it lets me set the voltage and it will allow the voltage as long as it is under 1.3. Anything over and I get a failed OC. Very frustrating. Thanks for the responses and I also tried the + or- and it ends up the same.

My question is why is your cpu-z reading 1 core there at the bottom

update that my friend to 1.47

nfm & I were benchn his e8600(dice) on my p5b-d & had the same problem. The 1236 bios was a bit buggy, but after a cmos clear, we had all the voltage options. If you fail an oc, then you have to clear it again to get it off auto. We were able to hit 5.6 with his chip, but wasnt stable enough to get a screeny. Give it a go & see if this works for you brother. Also do you have the pencil v-droop mod done? if not do it & make sure you cover it with clear nail polish, so it wont wear off. Also, have you installed a fan on the NB? I took all the HS's off the board & redid the tim with ceramic.

Mine does 583fsb on air with my e6300
    Good luck!

Hey Bigwill, I never saw the CPUz reading only 1 core however Orthos is stressing both so I can't imagine it's much of a problem. I sold the board and got the new Gigabyte P45 extreme board otherwise I'd check that out. Thanks for the heads up though.

[XC] Hicks121, I always clear CMOS before updating BIOS. Then when I kept having these issues I dropped back to the previous BIOS and cleared both before and immediately after updating. I still got the same result. I did the pencil mod so long ago that it finally wore off. If the board worked with this chip I was going to redo it. Mine still had the stock NB heat sink, however I always had a fan blowing on the NB so temps were pretty good.
    Thanks for the responses guys.
