Right well unfortunately I broke my CPU mount and I'm using an uneven setup so my temps are crap! (but hey ho - new kit next month!)

Had a quick play with mu E8600 and BIOS 407 and 407 hates my RAM big time However, I did get my E8600 rock solid @ 4GHZ (8hrs prime) with a 266 strap and stupid voltage! V1.19 and my CPU was rated at V1.25 when it ran normally

Everything was set to auto apart from the RAM speed and CPU Voltage. Too lazy tonight.... As I said, when I did try anything else it hated my RAM. Always "DET RAM" when I changed anything else or used another strap.

    What brand of ram ?

I ran 407 briefly, it was ok for Gskill.
I had my E8600 up to 4500 but the temps were very high.
How are yours for 4.0GHZ ? nice volts btw

Ok, so my windows skills seem to be lacking a little. I am having two issue, the first deals with the Rampage upgrade. When I run the HP USB file and select the drive then the files, it first warns me the files will be lost, I say "ok" and then I get the "media is write protected" error. I have checked the properties of the drive and there is nothing that allows me to unselect write protect. I can copy files to and from the drive with no issue, tried reformatting it and still nothing. I have tried two different drives and still nothing. Any ideas? Oh, and I tried running as admin. This is done from XP.

Anyway, my second issue is I cannot get the board to boot with 2 sticks of ram, I keep getting the "DET RAM" error. I use one stick, no problems. I tried adjusting the voltage to 2.1v which is what the ram rated for. I tried adjusting the transaction booster to 0 and relaxing a few of the adjustments, but still no go. I set the voltages to what I had on my Blitz, still no go. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Utnorris

P.S. I updated the bios to 1201 from 907 and got the same results.

Yea, i got a Maximus Formula flashed to rampage (0407 bios) to replace my eVGA 780i mobo for my E8400. i have the chip at 3.91 with the FSB at 460 atm testing the 8.5x multiplier.

My question is, how is the 0408 Beta BIOS Grnfinger, any noticable improvements as in lower voltages on anything? Thanks!

I've got an E8600 and am experiencing an odd phenomenon

Core 0 is P95 Small FFT solid at 1.28V actual for 4.5GHz, but Core 1 just craps out straight away, in under a minute.

It doesn't matter how much I up the VCore, but Core 1 just keeps failing.

I've tried different VTT and GTLs but dont seem to be getting anywhere.

I was using Rampage Formula 0407 and 0408 on my Maximus Formula and have even tried going back to MF1207 but no difference.

I've got everything else on Auto and have tried playing around with different voltages but the longest I've managed to get Core 1 running is a few minutes tops.

Well I got HPUSB to work on my Vista box. Still having the DET Ram issue though.

When I was using a QX9650 w/rampage bios I had the same problem with many different kits. Its usuallly a strap issue with certain configurations. Try setting memory to 1:1 and using highest strap (400 for me Rampage 403 bios). If u set strap to auto, depending on trp selected it won't boot. Also, you kinda have to leave trp on auto and record data until u find what works with your setup using memset to change the value. Trp 5-7 and in some cases up to 9 sometimes simply won't work. That said, as you lower trp it stresses the mch so you will have to raise nb volts to have stabilty. This is a fine board, but as you play around or tighten memory configurations to acheive best bandwith it takes more than just a little tweaking.

It's been my understanding that the 308 Bios yeilds the best memory bandwith.

Really? how is the 308's stability? Currently trying my ram at 1105.. doubt it'll work but intelburntest is rippin away.

For overclocking ram, does turning DRAM Static Read Control on help or harm your ram OC?

Any opinions on setting the Dram REF voltages? there's 3 of em in the BIOS not sure what to do with any so left it at auto.

Ok, so some success on the many issues I ma having. First, I am now Rampaged, yeah baby!! Still having the DET RAM issue, was hoping the Rampage 403 bios would fix it, but it didn't. I will try those ideas Nemesis to see if they work. Also, on a high note, I got CF working, that was fun, but I had similar issues with my Blitz and CF, so I kinda knew what to do with that. Now if I can get the ram work we will be golden. I will report my solution once I figure it out.

    Thanks again,

    Adata extreme 1200

Screeny - as I said - my temps suck because I've knackered the mount... (lost a screw and 2 washers somehow)

Although saying that it does run hot - runs ~10c lower where as my E6750 ran ~40c average and ~70c stressed...

Well it should be 10c lower if you know about the 45nm chips and the 95c TJunction.

    If you do, i apologize.
45NM Chips have a 95c TJunction and not 105c like many CPU Temp. monitors will read.. Not sure how they react to the new E0 chips, but my E8400 does.

I use REALTEMP by Unclewebb, here at XS.

no those temps are about correct.
dont sit here for one minute and think that just because of those low volts that the temps AUTOMATICALLY = low thats 100% false.
4ghz on air just the GHZ alone,, that will give you temps about in that range...

the 10deg was only for the early E8xx chips.
i have not seen anything about bad temps with the new ones.
