    Talking #1 geforce2mx400 in 3dmark03

Well, last week I saw the puny scores that were occupying the first page for the geforce2mx400 catogory of 3dmark03. Its not really an amazing victory, but it was kind of fun. I managed to push the clocks on the card up higher too, thanks to winter.
    my first small victory

I'm in Mississauga, which is pretty much connected to toronto (45 minutes to get into the city with average traffic)

I don't really like it here though, and would rather be living in Toronto. Its a bit of a suburban hell here.At least a 30+minute drive for anything remotly useful other then groceries and stuff.

Soulburner, I wouldn't mind a little competition :P unfortunatly i'm at a huge disadvantage because of the ram on this card. I have to cool the card down for quite a while before I can even run one test at 229mhz without it giving me an instant crash (the one with the red lines) And this is with the 3.3v line at 3.47

iceman, have you found any good stores in mississauga that sell "enthusaist" parts at a decent price? I've been in a couple stores that stock a bit of stuff, but it usually really expensive.

hhahhaha, you make it sound as if I abuse it...

    well I do.
-I've put on ramsinks (not a hugly important step unless you're going to raise the ram voltage, but even then its not too important)
-I've taken off the stock heatsink, put on a heatsink from a p3 733, some coolermaster deal with the original fan on it.
-I've done a volt mod on the core so its at 2.5v instead of 2v
-I've modded the 3.3v line on my powersupply so it gives 3.47v which gives the ram more voltage, and also lets you hit higher core speed probably because it gives power to needy parts on the card.
-I've had to solder on 2 cacitors on underside of the core that got broken off by my arch nemisis the clamp of doom.
-I've had to bath the thing in water, and then spray with freon to get "just a little extra" thermal paste out of the nooks and crannies of the card, like in between the memory pins.
-I've ducted -2.5 degree air to the card through my window.
-I've made a shim for this tiny resistor that got extremly hot and put a heatsink on that.
-I've bent and drilled holes in 2 pci slot covers that hold an 80mm fan which aims directly at the card.
-I've swore at it a lot too, and that can't hurt to try

edit* One time as a Lan I opened the side pannel on my computer because somebody wanted to see what a 2.4@3.2ghz looked like. First thing I heard was "WTF kind of graphics card is that? that things a f*ckin beast!"
and thats pretty much everything. I can post pictures of it too if you want.

Its not quite as extreme as some of the other videocards you see, but it doesn't need much more then this, especcialy with the 92mm fan blowing onto it, and the case intake blowing in its direction.

heres one showing the setup "in action" When I want to do some benchmarking I just take a peice of dryer hose and crunch the end in under the foam taped to my window and lay the computer on its side. The 92mm fan then sucks the cold air from the window and blows it onto the card.

If you discount the Vmods, it's pretty much the same story from here

Added RAMsinks (though not good ones)
Opened the window to get the air of the cold danish winter
Got my airconditioner fan (295mm to be exact)
Found 3x80mm fans from my bits box

As you see here, my heatsink isn't that impressive, but that will change this weekend

I hope that will give me some core speed.. What was you card clocking @ standart volts, LalPOO?

It was able to hit 270, but only for one or two runs at max and then it would crash. But that was with my old 733@825 probably with a somewhat low 3.3v line and the original heatsink with the fan you see on the heatsink in the new pictures.

btw, we're like brothers you just got the card with the good stuff on it :P not to mention that i have that keyboard, and the wireless version of the mouse. And a pretty similar system..
I bet you can't get the memory on that card much higher then 214mhz right?

i've never seen anyone work so hard to achieve 257 pts before. LOL , sorry but 3dmark03 is a horrible benchmark. the g4mx400 can still run modern 3d games at acceptable speeds , faster than 3dmark03 would indicate. even though , g4mx is not dx9.

Actually I did most of that stuff Just so I could play newer games (ut2k3) at a "decent" level. Some of the volt mods and stuff were so I could get higher on 2k1, but because the ram on my card is 5ns instead of 4.5ns thats on the asus v1700 pro I will never be #1 with this card

Just did this because I could.
    thanks skate

My mem craps @ 202MHz! I'll fix some Ramsinks...

And why did you delete the score?

    wha?
I didn't. You must be looking with it not set to "defualt projects, all drivers" (i didn't run it with whql drivers, sue me :P

    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1848202

The ramsinks may help, but check that resistor like thing near the vga connector end of the board. On my card it was getting REALLY hot, and was causing crashes, once I got a heatsink on it things got better.

Oh.. I always look at the WHQL only.. Kinda discounts the cheaters (no offence). How can your 45.23 be non-WHQL-certified when my 45.23 is?

They probably are. I doubt the difference is more then 1 or 2 points though, but I may check if I have the chance sometime. At the time I was getting the score I didn't realise that it'd be picky like that, and when I finnaly posted it and realized it was 6 am so I just said F*ck it.

I also got the clocks a bit higher on this card the other night. Got through with 303mhz on the core. I *think* I could probably get 310+ with pelt+watercooling but thats not in the near future for me. Possibly in a couple of months though, as I have made a nice little waterblock for the card, but right now I'm having trouble/being pissed off by the pump I have.
