    That's not DEINO but MPICH2

You should enter the password for the Robert account, this is exactly what sc00ps guide shows

Edit: reading back I never asked sorry.. but read the guide before asking something

You'll need to put a password on your account for it to work properly. Not a big deal, just punch it in when you first boot up and then you don't have to worry about it again until you reboot....which ideally is not for a long time

Could you copy/paste the error you got?

You probably need to run install.bat now after putting the password on.

I am still trying to dial in the smp clients along with GPU. When I add a flag "-smp 2" I am expecting only 2 cores dedicated to smp, but my system still shows 4 cores running & it's hurting my GPU production. I have already config GPU adv tab for higher priority? Am I going about this wrong...

What you entered should be working following this:

    Code:
    Folding@Home Version 6.22 SMP Beta2
    Usage: Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe [-option1] [-option2] ...

    Options:
      -config Configure user information
-configonly Configure user information, then exit
      -help Display this usage screen
-queueinfo Get information on queued work units
-delete x Delete item #x from work queue
-send x Send result #x to server then exit. Use x=all to send all results

-verbosity x Sets the output level, from 1 to 9 (max). The default is 3
-pause Pause after finishing & trying to send current unit
-oneunit Exit after completing one unit
-forceasm Force core assembly optimizations to be used if available
-advmethods Use new advanced scientific cores and/or work units if available
-service Run in service mode (for programs such as firedaemon)
-deino Use Deino MPI implementation (with -smp)
-smp x Use symmetric multiprocessing with n cores.

Please note the above recognized flags and try again.
    Press any key to exit.

    Folding@Home Client Shutdown.
Maybe ask in the folding forum if this flag is broken or not fully supported yet?

Edit: Reading the marked line I suspect it's only supported with deino. What means when using MPI we could leave the SMP flag, and when using deino, we should input "-deino -smp x". But this is speculation, I didn't try this.
Edit 2: Wait, wouldn't this actually mean that with deino we could leave dual smp install and just run it with "-deino -smp 8" or "-deino -smp 10" to be really efficient? Could someone with a deino install confirm this?

    Goes to p2501 as well.

Afaik that option is documented yet not implemented? Since it doesn't work here either never did. Which could also mean it's not working for mpich but like I said afaik it's just not working period. It will be working within a few client updates.

And DAK, fwiw, the main advantage fah has over other proteine folding projects is their advanced clients. Which are 'hands on' but also the pinnacle in dc crunching. The main advantage of smp is the ability to use as many cores as possible to shorten the turn around time.

Besides I think you're complaining about the temps as well and running on two cores would just mean two cores would still be boiling hot and two would not be loaded. I think that's wurse for the silicon then having an even load.

Which shows you did not read it enough times?

Temps are not so much of the issue as the GPU performance hit...Guess I have to wait for new releases that support the flag.

Dak the hit to gpu2 should be made up by the ppd from the smp client so it should still be on the positive side?

Let's see...All GPU's running without smp = 51xxppd min to 57xx ppd max. Total yield of all around 36,000ppd. With SMP, now reporting approx 41K...difference of approx +5K. Now that's not so efficient, especially when I consider heat plus electricity. I may backoff till they fix the smp client.

Which os are they on? Xp I guess?

Edit: can't stress out enough how much vista is better for gpu folding! It really does make a WORLD of diffrence

If you take the % diffrences and literally translate into points ( taking vista's overhead as half that of xp, and imho it's even less ) it would mean that the 5K gain in xp would be atleast an 10K gain on vista rigs

Actually afaik it does not matter x64 or 32 bit, it's the changed driver model which works the same in both kernels. But I'm on x64 fwiw

Right. Just catching up here. Dual SMP's. This isn't clearly stated in the sticky./.. but can I just copy the 2 damn folders and create shortcuts to each? And also to changing Machine ID? Will Dual SMP's on quads give better results?

I *think* you need to use the affinity changer tool to get the most out of it.. but I don't know.

you'd have to run config on the second one and change its machine ID to 2. Also put the -local flag on each of them so they don't get confused.

Dual SMP + Affinity Changer = Win. This is the setup I run on one of my quads. I believe it gives me an extra 1,000 PPD over just running a single client.

I just ran the installer executable twice into my 2 folders and it worked fine for me. I used Machine ID of 1 and 2. The only flag i run is -smp. (Figured this out the hard way after the new client picked up a 200 point, 28 hour WU... ) I believe you only have to run the install.bat once (But not 100% sure, can't remember)

Note: I am not using the new "Deino" one... I couldn't manage to figure out the installation. Is this new one supposed to give more points than the MPICH client?

deino is supposed to be more "stable" I think... I don't use it. Though right now I'm using nothing as suddenly my CPU is not stable anymore, for reasons unknown at this point

What about the advmethods flag. I just hit enter on setup when first run SMP. I think default is [no]. Should I use the flag now? Marvin said something earlier about it been obsolete?

I don't have it. I do have -forceasm still though.

I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown... lol. How about I forget about it and monitor the results on single SMP for now, and then come back to this when I calm down, and all the GOD DAMMIT FANCY FLAGS.

WHy can't those nOObs in Pandeville create a real pretty GUI solution that I can just click the damn buttons. Buttons>Cmd Line FLAGS.! lol

lol, n00b, command line is nerdier than a pretty GUI

actually not that bad once you've done it a couple times, after that it is like oh, *type type* done.

All this flag talk makes me want to salute, or drink. I'm not sure. There's no flag in here, so who wants vodka?
