you should really try lowiering it, you should need that much to run a Q9550 at 3.6
9550 can easily hit 4ghz.

Seems sort of high, but I don't have any experience using the stock cooler. I idle at ~40*C, 3.2GHz with a Vendetta, if that's any indication. I think I got around 36-38*C idle at stock with that cooler, but I don't really remember.

Okay, thanks for your replies. I was expecting some low temps for this proc, which explains my reactions to these temps. Anyway, once my WC is setup, i'll remember to post back here.

vcore = 1.25 in BIOS
41 29 32 32 ---- idle
55 46 47 49 --- load after 10 min of prime95
Whats up with core 0 running about 10c hotter than core 1?
im using realtemp 2.70 and i tested the sensors and they seem to be working fine: 8 7 8 8
Should i worry about 1 core running hotter? would it be worth RMA=ing it?

I have tried to lower the vcore, anything below 1.35 bios and it fails linpack.
at 1.30 vcore it wont get into Vista bsod on loading.
425 seems to be this chips limit anything higher and it wont boot on any multi.
This is disapointing seeing as I just sold a Q6700 that did the same damn clock, I was hoping for atleast 3.8GHz but I was reaching for a 4.0GHz 24/7 machine

I've a 6 to 7 deg C spread between cores too:
example after 6hrs prime small: 66, 60, 55, 55
I checked the paste and it was spread correctly, I'm thinking either base of IFX14 needs lapped and/or a CPU design characteristic. I have 2 fans on the thermalright too
You should be able to get 3.6 on that cpu easy

You will have to raise your FSB Termination voltage if you expect to get higher. You also may have to adjust your cpu gtl to 65,63 or 61. The Q6700 you had previously uses 67 but the 45nm quad typically require 63-65 once you begin to max them out. Finally you probably won't see more than 450FSB with that board if your lucky. Most of us top out @ 435-445FSB. The x38 chipset struggles with 45nm quads. They also require alot of volts on the northbridge to reach over 425FSB. Your chip looks to have alot left in her. You just kinda have it paired with the wrong motherboard. My Q9450 does 3960Mhz on P5E-VM HDMI. But 3.5Ghz max on Maximus. I use the QX9650 with maximus & have a maximus formula II on the hopefully to max out my Q9450. Anyway try some settings from this thread & you'll have 3.6GHz in no time. 3.8GHz will be max using that board however. And the northbridge voltage to get there won't be safe for 24/7 use.

Hi I have a C1 stepping Q9450 SLAWR and I can't seem to get more than 3200 MHZ IntelBurnTest Stable with 8GB of ram. With 4GB it is fine under Intel Burn Test at 3400MHZ, but I get a few errors after 20 iterations (trying to 100 iterations stable with 8GB of PC1100 memory). I have tried crazy NB voltages of 1.6v etc... I'm IntelBurnTest Stable at 3400 MHZ with 4GB of ram, and I was running at 3600MHZ somewhat stable with with 1.5vtt and was getting random complete shutdowns but no errors. Everything is under water (CPU GPU NB) so I'm a bit dissapointed with my 3200MHZ OC.
I'm pretty sure it is my GTL voltages. I have been taking my measurements directly from the MB but I'm not sure what percentages to set them at as the C1 stepping seems to be different from C0's like everyone else has. Right now I have them at 85% /85%/ NB @ 87% of Vtt which seems somewhat decent to allow me to boot up at 3600 MHZ just not pass it stable. Auto does not even allow me to boot.
If anyone can recommend me somme C1 Specific GTL %'s I think I could achieve my goal of 3600 MHZ.

first off, assuming you're running on your sig's DFI LP x48, that board is not known for great memory compatability.
it may be paranoid of me to jump straight to a mobo problem, but in my experience that's where most problems come from, especially with respect to RAM speeds.
It's hard enough to find a mobo that will reliable support 4gb DDR3 at high speeds, let alone 8 gb. My guess is it's a RAM thing, as this stepping has been really good to me in terms of clocks. The fact that y0u can get higher at 4gb than 8gb supports this. also, 1.6v isn't that crazy for nb volts.
try loosening your timings and strapping a lower divider and see where that gets you.
if that doesnt do much, than i'm totally wrong and should stop running my trap.

its cool man, but I'm running DDR2 not DDR3 and yes it is the MB in my sigThe memory tests 100% stable with Memtest86+ so i don't think it was a memory issue, I did try adding some aditional voltages but it didn't really help. I tried using different memory dividers (running ram way under rated speed) which also showed no sign of improvement. Timings are set and detected correctly by the bios and the memory was purchased as a kit. I actualy heard this board isn't bad at all at recognizing many kinds of memory. The 3TR is the DDR3 version I have the DDR2 board. I'm pretty sure it is my gtl's that are holding me back, 26 passes of IntelBurnTest is "Almost Stable" if only I could get a grip on the GTL's and make it "REALLY" stable. With 8GB of ram 26 Passes of Intel Burn test takes hours to test but at least it detects a problem unlike prime95.

Yes I was not able to post with them on auto rock solid using 83% 83% 87% NB, but I still don't think they are set correctly and hence why I can not break 3.2 ghz. I wish someone knew their GTL% and had a C1 stepping CPU and had it at 3.6ghz. So many people with air cooling are kicking my butt, then again, they have lower load temps on air than I have ambient in my room!

odd. i mean, it must be a board issue, as i was able to clock to 3.8ghz rock stable on my gigabyte X48T-DQ6 with 4gb DDR3 1600 ram with much less voltage and no gtl tweaks.

Yea I'm thinking its the chip. or possibly they need to release a new bios since default GTl's won't allow me to boot at 3.4 at all. Its extreamly frustrating! I might sell the CPU or trade it for a dual core, it seems like it has alot of potintial though, I jsut can't harness it. Still in the process of lowering voltages @ 3.2 ghz. Right now the CPU is at 3.2 but I will also lower the Vtt soon and post back once I find the optimal voltages at 3200 Mhz.

i think that may have been the batch of my first q9450 (which I had newegg RMA just to get a diffferent batch) it liked high voltage and had horrendous temps.
and highest i could get it stable was 8x445fsb.
if you got it from newegg you could always rma for replacement...veritably no questions asked.
