WELCOME!
that is surprising!...i would thought that your previous forum would of had a decent X48T or just X48 thread.Actually, this is pretty much the best x48t thread out there, and I wanted to pick your brains. Hence, here I am.
yeah!..the guy from OCF, who bought it, gave me a nice heatware evaluation without even asking him.Ace, I chatted a bit with you via PM when you had that board and RAM on the classifieds. Glad to see it found a new home.
you can try the F5D bios, it is a good one.Anyhow, I've been at it for a while on this x48t and it's been a pretty good experience so far. It's paired with Gskill 1600 7-7-7-18, and a Q6600(which has reached 4.0GHz on my 680i). I'm sitting at a nice stable 3.6GHz with the RAM truckin along nicely at rated 1600 and 7-7-7-18 @ 1.9v. I am on the f5a BIOS and it seems to be alright, although any suggestions as to a better version would be much appreciated.
as for the memory timings, you will need to loosen them up to go to 4.0 ghz with that Q6600...i got to about 3960 on my Q6600 on this board using 9x @ 440 FSB.
also, think about raising your PL (performance level) to around 9.
if you use turbo, you might have to relax the memory timingsCan I please have some info on the following M.I.T settings(ie: what the heck do they actually do???):
Performance Enhance - Standard, Turbo, Extreme. I leave this one at standard, but have seen some of you guys use turbo. It tends to make my OC unstable.
i tried 800 or 900...1000 would make it not post for meCPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control - 800,900,1000. - This one confuses me. I can't figure which setting would help more.
for now, that is good.CPU Clock Skew Control............: Normal - I leave this to normal all the time, don't know about you guys.
(G)MCH Clock Skew Control.........: Normal - Same with this one.
a 65nm cpu should be close to 67%...i can not remember what settings you have for that 2nd cpu gtlref.CPU GTLREF1 Voltage*.......(67%)..: Auto - These stay at default as well.
CPU GTLREF2 Voltage*.......(61%)..: Normal
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Ace, Loonym, thank you very much. We'll get this sucker hummin. Bet on it. I'm sitting at 3.6GHz stable with this machine right now, and I gotta tell ya my gaming experience has never been better. The OC'd 4870 is a killer too! I averaged ~180 net_graph fps all night last night on DODsource.
Any links to that f6a bios? Look forward to seeing how it performs. And I'll thy the f5d after I exhaust all my options with the f5a Ace. Thanks,
And Ace, suprisingly there is no decent thread over at OCF on this subject. Just a months old BIOS thread with one post that I tried to revive a few days ago. Too Bad.

Thus far I'm finding I can still do my best clocks with my setup with f5d. This isn't to say the f6a is terrible, works fine, very stable, just wouldn't seem to let me push as hard. Who knows, if I put the other ram in maybe I'd get different results. The thing is my 790i pukes on the ocz flex xlc so it looks like those stay in the x48t. it kind of s*cks when you find a ram set is no good or so, so with a certain chipset...but...it might mean the bios engineer is not being nice, nice with the settings to make that ram compatible.

Cheers, I just flashed to the f5d from f5a tonight. I'll be goin for 4GHz tomorrow depending on the weather(no AC). I'll post back with results.
btw looney, have you tried the patriot Vipers at all on the 790? I only ask because the DDR2 clocked to 1200 for me on the 680 and 780 no prob. In the right hands they most likely would have went farther. I haven't tried their DDR3 yet though.
btw guys. One thing I'm definitely noticing is that it's taking more volts to get to the same freq with this board than with my 680i. For example, 3.0(333x9) took 1.2/1.176v on the 680i and 25hrs prime stable. On this board it takes 1.25v. 3.6GHz took 1.375v on the 680i and 1.4125v on this board. Any particular reason you could think of why that might be?
I'm thinking my bios settings may not be quite optimized yet, or the bios isn't as mature as it could be, etc. etc. But I can't really be sure.

I only have a gskill 4gb kit and the ocz. That 790i is very ram fussy and I got sick of restoring the drive so it gets the gskills. I like the vipers but right now I can't justify buying more ddr3. I think you're not far off when you say maybe this x48t needs a little more vcore than some other setups but also how high are you running the fsb voltage?

I've tried 1.3 and 1.4 on the FSB Voltage. It's only running at 400MHz, so I didn't think the FSB would need the juice too bad yet. But that line of thinking comes from Nvidia Chipest Overclocking and from looking through this post at what you guys have been using.

This is the same setup I have. The UV Blue Mobo Tray really sets it off, but adds a bit to the price.

And here's a few of mine b4 it totally went together.
A couple of comments:
The build quality is excellent, and the assembly was easy. The only place I ran into trouble as with my 4870's PCIx expansion slot height. Without another GFX card it's kind of hard to tell if it's the case that's off spec or the 4870. My guess is the 4870 since everything else is perfectly in spec, plus the GFX PCB seems to be warped a bit. Nothing 2 1mm spacers between the standoff and tray couldn't fix.
The mounting holes for the PSU lined up perfectly with my Coolmax 1350w GreenPower, but not with my Silverstone St60F. It's kind of hit or miss there I think, not DD's fault.
The packaging was superb. Everything is packaged flat (think Ikea). lol.
This is by far the best case I've ever owned, but if you want it enclosed you'll need to shell out and grab the top and front. Price for that will range from ~$190 - $235.
Cool thing is, they can laser etch graphics for you on request if you want.

SS's knowledge and input has been huge. I still use the tips he gave me and the info about the default voltage values is awesome. Using turbo helps me up until about ddr3-1700 because it tightens up a lot of the sub-timings that I'm not real comfortable messing with (that tip came from dinos), above that speed I drop it back to normal. My understanding of what the driving and skew settings actually do is zero but I set driving at 900 and cpu skew at 100 while mch skew is normal. I use -3 on first gtl and second is left at normal however I have the 45nm quad in here so a q6600 will likely react completely different. In case you overlooked it here's a link to Supershanks' post about the stock voltage defaults... http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/12926-post19.html

Oh Crap, In fact I did overlook that thread. That's golden! Thanks alot loony. I'm somewhat new to these forums and am still finding new and interesting things every time I sign on. I've previously only used the search function to find info on my old systems. This new x48, while not quite out of my league, takes alot of getting used to.
And yes, I think Ace mentioned something about the performance level and RAM timings in a previous thread. I'm grateful for all the help and sharing of experience with this board. It's really helped make the learning curve less steep.

it has to make you wonder why he is selling them if he has gotten good overclocking out of them...
i would be dubious about any warranty carried over unless he can give you the receipt to show when/where he purchased them...most companies want to see/have the receipt.
