Some have claimed they achieved improved stability doing this and in some cases it has, also on boot up some cards at 100mhz on a HIGH CPU FSB overclock 400 and above showed blurry screen at boot up and/or flickering more then usual.

So 101mhz seems to compensate for all of this on some cards.

Also many will use 105-110-120-140mhz for BENCHMARKS ONLY in 3marks you can/could gain 300-500 points depends on mobo and card and such.

    NOTE:

If the PCI-E is on same channel as the SATA HD .. then to high of a PCI-E bus mhz can/could/may/will corrupt your HD data and/or boot files.

So i'm thinking of buying this board since I've fried my DFI UT P35. Should I stick with the DFI for quad overcloking (Q6600) or try this mobo out. I really can't stand the cooling on the DFI board as it's inadequate.

I'm looking at this board as it seems well priced and looks like it cools better. What does XS say?

Does any know how to adjust theese settings?

    Is that not DDR3 memory?

If so your in the wrong thread .. there is a P5Q3 Deluxe thread also.

As for the audio setup i have no idea.

Talking bout PCI-E with the 8800GTX, GTX260 and 280 I'm maxed at 105-110Mhz (depending on card) otherwise it's a no post...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Looks good. How is the cooling for the PWM/NB/SB? I don't have light hand so I scratched the hell out of the DFI backside trying to remove the PWM Thermaltake cooler.

So I'm done messing with the board (spent almost $100 on cooling for it) and my quad is in need of a new home.

Well with my specs and i have been folding all day now on CPU and GPU .. i carefully touched the pipes and cooling heatsinks and they feel about 60-70C MAX .. folding now remember.... so it is GOOD cooling so far .. i have not spent anything on the MOBO for cooling .. only my CPU.

My antec 900 case and fans is good air flow too and thats important no matter what mobo you have.

Maybe u can confirm yourself if u have a spare kit of a different brand/chip

    * edit I am sorry I got somehow mixed with another thread , and thought u had the G.skill but u got the ballistix, and those should work espacially good old micron chips.
Yup I got those G.Skill about 2 weeks ago max... I will try the setup with my own D9's to see if it works

So next time I meet the PC, I will try raising the vNB to 1,30-1,35V, I will loose the timings of the board a bit, etc.

BTW the computer I recently built for my GF's family uses the G.Skill, the Ballistix are mine. Thanks a lot!

just about to go home and install this board. Is it necessary to pull the sinks off and put some fresh MX2 on the NB and SB or did they do an OK job? Any other preinstall things i should check?

when i had a 8800gt i had to up the freq from 100 to 110 to get it to give me 16x if not it would stay at 1x but if i would lower my fsb it would go back up to 16x so im guessing when you go for high fsb's you need to up that freq depending on your card

check gpu-z and make sure your card is running at 16x if not up the freq and it should go up to 16x

See my specs and i am running whatever stock pipe paste it has and i have been folding all day .. pipes feel around 60C-70C max..... remember folding.

I have Antec 900 computer case... so it helps too... so i say NO leave them alone and see what you get with it first off. If you feel its causing issues then pull them off and redo paste.

I may one day do it for the heck of it, but right now its fine for me.

    Thanks for the info!

I had the DFI in my Stacker 830 but since I move the case around alot it was just plain heavy. So I switched to the Rocketfish case (alot lighter) but it doesn't have the cooling pontential as stacker.

We'll see how the Rocketfish case fairs with my ghetto fan setup. Can't wait!

Ain't that the truth about the Stacker. I had to go see my "bonecrusher" everytime I moved the da** thing. I replaced mine with a HSPC Tech Station and couldn't be happier.

Ok i got this very weird behaviour with BIOS 1201, everytime I reboot, it wont boot into the BIOS , gpu 100% and hangs there. I have to turn the PSU button oFF, and press couple of times the power button then turn the PSU on and power button, in order to get into the BIOS but then all things are resetted, I think it must be a strap/divider issue. What strap / divider does works on 400fsb?

Mine is as stable as it was with 1103 ! Why don't you leave it AUTO ?

I know it's been mentioned that many bios settings on Auto will overvolt, but does someone know what those values actually are? Specifically I'm looking for PLL, VTT, and NBCore. I finally got my Q6600 stable at 9x400 but everything's on Auto right now and I want to start dialing things down to test.

Thanks Beast, looks like I need to invest in a multimeter/voltmeter. From looking at those pictures, I see some of the voltages have more than on measuring point. Does this just mean we can use one or the other?

There are 2 read points for the vdimm and the vNB. as there is 2 phase power for each. They measure the same (for me) so I just use the most easily accessible read point of each.

**Ok so after some testing, I'm not so sure I like BIOS 1201 anymore. I do like that the vdimm is now almost accurate as I posted before, but there are some issues.

Firstly, I had to increase vNB from 1.20v (bios) to 1.26v (bios) for the same speed & settings I had with 0803, just to get it stable again. In addition, I have lost about 50 - 100MB/s read/write/copy bandwidth in everest benches, so that's is confusing, more voltage needed for looser timings?

Also when I went to push my ram over 1200 MHz, it corrupted my bios and I had to re-flash it. I think I'll go back to 1103 and test that again, then go back to 0803 if 1103 is similar to 1201, although I think it was a stable as 0803 at the same voltages.

I just don't want to lose the vdimm accuracy (it annoys me to overvolt my ram at idle then have 0.06v droop under load). I wish ASUS would make a decent bios, this is really irritating me.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I spent 8 hours reading this thread after purchasing my Q6600/P5Q-D/2x2GB G.skill 8500PK. It was hard dropping my Opteron 170, but I got bored and tried to take off the IHS. Anywho, thanks to all for helping me get back into Intel land (loved my northy), this is one of the best threads on the net. Pls keep it real.
