    CUDA enabled software

I know this isn't the place for it but since we are all so CUDA crazy over here I figured I would post it. There is a CUDA enabled video transcoder. I transcode and encode a lot of video so I am stoked at least. Free demo here: http://nzone.download.nvidia.com/nod...aboom_v0.9.exe. Info here: http://www.badaboomit.com. I am going to try it out tonight.

Layman's terms? Basically, what's a video transcoder? I'm guessing it converts it from one format to another or am I totally wrong? Either way, its much faster than a cpu driven program?

Yeah, video converter. Think, you download avi and want it on your Zune which doesn't convert avi. Spend an hour using your awesome $1000 Core 2 or spend less than 10 mins using your $99 video card? Easy answer.

*sigh* You know I finished converting loads of DVD's today. Took ages. And you post this now? lol

EDIT: Trying now. I'm not overly impressed TBH. It takes ~90 for a ~100min DVD. Thats not better than my CPU. AT all. And its restricted to Apple crap, Xbox and otehr PS3, ipod type crap formats lol

    EDIT2: 8800 GTX, 4Ghz E8500 etc

EDIT3: Ya this blows. Hard. GPU temp only 73C. Had expected more. Its normally 83-85C Folding. Not properly optimized. And it uses 15% of my E8500 CPU (30% of single core)

    Mak2000, let us know, please!

I do this alot, I just never use technical terms. I always say convert, not transcode, thats why, my n00bness.

This is exciting. I convert a LOT of files and this will save me a ton of time. I need to mention this to my friend who's ordering a quad (i'll force him to fold for us!) and he wants a good graphics card. That might sell him on an nvidia, then I can get him to fold w/ it.

^^^ eh. Have you seen my screenshot? I can get better speed with TMPGenc 4. And transcode to a wide range of formats. Maybe with diff cards it might work better. G92 etc?

Okay you lucky bastard. I am loading 177.83 drivers now and then I will transcode something. I transcoded this file previously to WMV and Zune coule read it and couldn't convert it. It took about 70 mins. We will see what 660/ 1566/1050 8800GTX, I had to lower shaders because of errors, I guess it can't handle the 1650 it used to, can do against a 2.975Ghz Core 2. I guess that will give you an easy catch up.

    [EDIT] 34 mins.

DId you give it a whirl MaK2000? Maybe we should get a standard size file and a set format to convert to. Although i have previously slammed it, i'd liketo see what it could do with a GT and others.

We should select a standard video file and video output format to compare various cards.
I think I have a video uploaded @ RapidShare ( actually TrafficShare, which is full rapidshare premium speed and no wait time for everyone ) which we can use.
    Or pick another video.

Let me know, I can capture a video and upload it to various FTPs and sites for you to download and "bench" with it.

Do it! I was going to just search for one... and link it. Somehting like a 30min vid. Keep the formats/bit rate the same and see what happens.

    EDIT: I found one. 10mins long, 45megs. http://ia300116.us.archive.org/2/ite...s/purge001.avi

I'm not at my place at the moment, and I don't have the necessary upload speed to upload the single file to rapidshare

Remote-uploads might work, don't remember if it works for files over 100MB... guess we'll find out in a min or two

Actually the files are RAR parts, so you can't download only 1 of them and use the partial video

On the other side, if a smaller video size is ok, I have some more on my server ( which can be mirrored on RapidShare Traffic-Share instantly ).
Let me check the durations first.

Edit: can take just one part of those 4 rars offcourse, content doesn't matter it's the encoding time

    You can try the Vantage video ( it's 5min 42s ) [ don't remember Badaboom's normal edition resolution limits, hope it's within ]
