If u buy from EK i dont think nickel plated+delrin wont be a problem. They have also sold the delrin top by itself before. Heck i bet Alex(petra) kan order one with delrin for u, but i dont know how often they get shipment from EK so it may be quite a wait.

I wonder if this block fails like the 3870X2 block did when trying to mix a single GPU card with a dual GPU card.

    lol, thats actually pretty funny.

but SLI or Crossfire with mixed single/dual GPU is very rare tho

Thats definatly not a fail. At leasts in my books.

And you can see form the pictures that it has wider spacing between ports, just like all of the other EK blocks for multi-gpu cards

That is actually pretty funny. But if you got some stubbies you could at least connect the two that are relatively close, then use the other two for in/out.

Many 4870 owners will find it much easier to buy a 4870X2 for CF than buying two 4870X2's. Not to mention your scaling is better.

It isn't a hard thing to take all possible configurations into account when designing a block....

Stubbies would not work, tried it.

People should be able to see that they wouldnt work together just from pictures, and shouldnt expect it to...

Making the ports closer together would just restrict flow even more... to please a very small crowd that would run that config? EK made the right design choice I'd say
(Even if they didnt realize it)

Then again... 2 4870x2's in CF is a total waste no matter how many inches it adds to your e-peen.

    +2 for the nickel.

    Would an MCR320 with Ultra Kaze's 2000rpm, handle a 4870X2 and an overclocked E8600 ?

Thanks for the pics of the 2 blocks RickCain, I was looking at doing a 4870 1G card ( when out ) and a 4870x2. I to belive that 2 4870x2 are a waste of money but was going to do single gpu + Dual for trifire. Now I will have to think about this.

I was looking to do the same but after seeing this I cancelled the 4870 block that I had ordered and am now patiently awaiting the availability of the x2 block and will just have to run the one card....which is annoying as I wanted the extra 4870 to help crank the AA for the 30" monitor I have coming.

Yeah, most likely. But a 480 would be better :P

Just get the 4870x2 full cover, then a GPU only block for the 4870. The tubing would route nicely

So do you think that Eddie will make a RAM cooler for the back like for the 280GTX?

My 4870X2 runs real hot. I set the fan to 65% when I have my headphones on and I dont hear it and it keeps my card cool.

I'd like to order the block and get the back ram block at the same time but will just have to wait I guess.

    Cheers,
    emu

Does the nickel plating do anything to the performance? Or is it purely cosmetical?

Oh I know. I wish there was an upgrade program, cause I'd love to trade in my 3007 for the 08 model. 3000:1 contrast ratio!!

I also wish they would replace the SD card reader to a newer one that reads the SDHC spec.

    Hi!

Use short fittings and flexible tubing and everything will be fine.

Not with compression and using short fittings made it a mess to look at...

Moving the inlet for one of the two block to match like SLI would have been the answer. Just seems like a rushed design without taking into consideration the flexiblity of AMD video cards.

There is still time for v2 of this block so I buy one. Until then I will stick with Fusion GPU blocks on my 4870X2.

Now I saw Eddy reply in here, hope he see's this as well Is it possible to get the nickel block, but with the acetal top instead, so that you don't have to buy that separately? Just love that silver and black look, paired up with some Thermalright mosfet coolers, it looks great
