What do you mean "it was written for us by Asus" ?
Is there anything on the ASUS FTP?

Once you do the rework of the 20k and 40k swap out and the 50 ohm to the resistor off the voltage leg of the Digital VRM chip then and only then do you install that bios. If you install it before you will corrupt the bios, but luckily if you do that it is a removable one. Best to have a couple on hand as we did.

What we mean that Asus wrote that bios for us is we have been working hand in hand with Taiwan to make this the ultimate benching board to go with the 4870x2’s. With this board and the 2.0 Pci-e slots with Xfire and two QX9775’s at 5.6 there will be no bench project that will touch the scores. If you can’t find the bios file and you are interested in it call us at 1-866-779-2273 and we will e-mail it to you for we do not have it FTP on our site or anything.

So doing that mod will trick the board into thinking that one is using QX9775 CPUs then? Or how does it work?
Anyway, I'm not modding anything until someone can provide me with a decent picture on what to solder where. I ain't risking a 35k ppd machine

This Vmod is for a board running Qx9775's and as far as modding it we have given you guys the link to the specs on the VRM digitalchip with all the info nessessary to do this. when you are ready for the ultimate skulltrail board just call us and the bios that go with it are yours.

Now now, who is willing to throw down to vmod their boards? haha 500USD down the drain for a bad solder.

How about a vmod for those who can't shell out an arm and a leg for a crazy pair of QX9775's
Do you know if the vmod and new bios will work even with Xeons? or does it 'have' to be QX9775.
I would imagine, even without the QX9775, (a Xeon substitute that isn't godly expensive), with (2) 4870x2 in X-fire this would still produce some sick bench results.

We have not tried it with anything but Qx9775's but this mod does work. It is the only way anyone is going to get more than 1.6v out of this board because of the Digital VRM. Or should I say 1.54v after Vdroop. By the way this mod gets rid of all Vdroop too. Its not rocket science doing this mod, just read the PDF and it explains it all.

So are you saying that with QX's the vcore is adjustable up to 1.6v? Sorry if this was confirmed earlier, I haven't been following too closely. This means that the mod you're talking about allows voltages above 1.6v? If you still have the board and access to Xeons then it would be greatly appreciated if you could confirm the use of this mod on them.

I'm almost always available on Steam to chat. Same username.

Well, no one here intends to use QX9775's on this mobo. We care about crunching not benching (at least not in this section), hence this mod will be useless if it doesn't work with normal Xeons.

--> back to CPU Vid pin mod

What we would be interested in, however, is a way to trick the board into believing that QX CPUs are used, unlocking the Vcore and VTT setting. I don't need above 1,6V lol, 1,4 will be enough. And VTT up to 1,3V maybe, then we'll all be in heaven.
Remember, this is about sustained performance under 24/7 full load conditions.. nobody here's gonna fry their Harpers for some shortlived bench run.

I'm interested in this, but is pretty difficoult to make a vmod without see some actual pics, so, shoiuld be really nice if you can post same detailed pics of the mod adn also some screenes of this special bios.....
Sorry for my bad english, I'm from italy

i am very sure jcool didn't mean it that way.
    but yeah..

I've taken my share of comp engineering classes already and if I only had a better look at the board (not mounted in a case) i could probably figure this out.
but, I really don't wanna take mine apart as all my WC tubes are clamped and i am lazy

Not exactly easy either. Which one is the voltage leg you are talking about? I am looking at the PINOUT on the first page.

But yeah, as jcool said, if you could find a vmod or BIOS to unlock Vcore and VTT and that worked with normal Xeons that would be great! no pressure
Not everyone can afford to spare Asus Z7S boards and QX9775s.

    Thanks CBGPCS

Your not going to unlock a DIGITAL VRM CHIP GUYS. You have to add the 50 ohm resistor to change the VRM10 table to a VRM9 table. READ THE .PDF latsed in my first post. This is the only motherboard with a digitalVRM dhip that we know of and believe me it took 5 months working with Asus to get this far. If you want voltage this is the way your going to get it, unless you feed it in from an outside point which you will need to do so from more than one spot. We have pursuded all options and are just trying to help out you guys looking for voltage. THIS IS HOW YOUR GOING TO GET IT. Doesn't matter what chip you have tyour not going to "trick" the bios. IT'S DIGITAL, the hole voltage table is made up of 1's and 0's and that you can only change through the process we mentioned before. I will list the PDF again for you all.

look at page 4 on the voltage leg ...4th one down on left...add 50ohm..wala turn table vrm10 to vrm9 ...1/2 done now you need bios file after that

FB (pin 6) to ground on the ISL6568 will do the trick much easier for us. Just gotta prod around a bit with a multimeter to get the stock circuit resistance then put a VR in.

Given that the bios can already do this for us though I think it would be much safer to find a way to open up vcore selection in it. 1.6 is more than enough for our purposes.

Yep, that's what I'm talking about, There has to be some way...

CGBPCS, your efforts are much appreciated, your mod just isn't what most of us are looking for.

Talked with Asus last night in Taiwan. They said the only way to obtain higher voltage is by the two methods I've already explained. I did ask about adding voltage from an out side source and they commented that it would have to be added in 8 different spots on the board at the same time with a diode on each spot to avoid voltage going backward on the board. I guess I will let a sleeping dog lie if you all are looking for some other type of vmod. But keep in mind that the way we told you is the correct way to do it, and that is always the best way.

    Cheers

We dont want higher than 1.6, we just want to adjust vcore for any cpu up to a relatively safe 24/7 level (no more than 1.5 for most people).

sorry s0lid, forgot about it. Will measure my MCW6002's for you tomorrow, they fit LGA771.

S603/S604 have the same measurements for width/length.
