well I just puklled the trigger on this board, so hopefully it will handle my ram.
any word on the new revision of this board yet?
Has anyone traced if there is really hardware chanes in this board?
Cos newer ones seems to work better than older ones.
Gigabytes GA-EP45T Extreme is wayyyy better in every way, but it is more costly also.
I flashed 1201 but I have the same problem with my Corsair XMS3 1600C9-4GB.
If I set 400/450 fsb the motherboard work fine with memory 1600 or 1800, but with 500 fsb (i change my qx with 8500) only bsod and black screen
I try with 333/400 Strap and low memory frequency (1:1 divider)
now I move to my old Blitz Extreme![]()
well I'll post results with 2 and 4g of 1333mhz sticks when I get my board in on tuesday.
I think it has more to do with memory speeds, around 1250 or lower is killer fast, this with DDR2 and DDR3, even 4GB is no issue. So the P45 DDR2 boards do fine, fast...stable and good to clock with, the DDR3 boards just seem to fall over once you get to 1333 especially with moderate to high memory load.
So my personal feelings are P45 is a good chipset, just stick with DDR2 for it for now. If you must play DDR3 ( and the price has come down again this week) then X48 is the weapon of choice really.

so ocz 1333mhz sticks should work fine on the p5q3? also do you know the ics in the new ocz gold? the 2nd revision? i know the first revion has elpidas but the second revision just says ocz in the ic's.
Yes, I agree very much with this.
P45 w/ddr2 is fast and good but not ddr3.
This is my second P5Q3...
though its much better than the first...
but stilll...
If u guys die die wanna get this board,
try not to pair it with JNL chips.
Get GTR or samsung and look out for 87MOAI ones.
Pls no 85MOAI.
And I'm seling this board away again.
(Then again, maybe it me who suck with this board.)
I test Blitz Extreme (P35) and I haven't problem with 4GB and with all divider/fsb/strap/frequency...but this mobo wall around 560fsb![]()
i think the way is P5q3 with 2GB kit for bench![]()

Hi,
first of all hello to all of you as this is my first post here even if I have been reading the forums for some time.
And a great thanks for activating my account.
Well, coming to the point, I took some time during my holidays to build my new system.
My hardware is:
cpu: q9450
mobo: p5q3 deluxe wifi @n rev 1.02G
gpu: hd4870
psu: enermax modu 82+
Case: silverstone cw02
cpu cooler: thermalright hr01 plus
fan: noctua s12
ram: corsair TW3x4g1333c9dhx
hdu: seagate 500gb (sata)
I'm experiencing great problems (which is an euphemism, as the system doesn't work).
I have had several attempts in installing Vista 32 bit (system freezed, BSODs, etc) and after like 20 of them it has finally installed.
I had to use just one memory module (2 Gb), inserted in dimm B1. Bios flashed via Ez utility to, at that time, latest rev. 1103.
The system has a fresh Vista Premium 32 bit licensed installation. The only thing I have then installed is Catalyst 8.7.
However the system is very very unstable: it crashes after a random period of time (it could be from 1 minute after having log in to some hours of usage - maximum was 4 hours). I get a BSOD (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) or the screen goes black or with green stripes. In all these circumstances I can only hard reboot.
I have flashed the BIOS to the latest rev (1201): still no luck.
Already tried several settings, as posted and read on many boards. Manually set RAM parameters (1333Mhz, 1.70v, 9-9-9-24,2T etc), cpu voltage (1.20v), nb voltage (1.20v)...
Booting in safe mode the system seems running fine, even if it did some BSODs even there (this is strange...). Cannot intall SP1 cause it takes long time and a crash arrives first.
Tested RAM modules (one by one) with memtest as suggested on Corsair forum: no errors at all after like 8 passes each.
I'm going crazy cause I'm not able to find what is the problem: is it the graphic card? is there a compatibility problem between Mobo and memory(it was in the QVL!), as it seems reading over the Internet and this thread? What else?
UPDATE: Further tests done
Tried to recable and change slots (where feasible) to all the stuff: no changes.
Tried to install Vista with the integrated SP1 on a new SataII hd: same problems. Installation freezed many times before success, and even after that when the system was up I got BSODs, black screens, etc. Same panic.
Tried XP Pro SP2 on an IDE hd: as above. Conclusion: at least is not an hd/OS issue.
Installed my RAM, PSU and GPU on a friend rig (X38 based), all worked fine.
So a possible conclusion is that it's the motherboard to have problems (ot at least the new intel P45 chipset).
I'll never buy again such a brand new stuff. I'm very disappointed, I've always been satisfied with Asus Mobos, but I think this time they have started to sell a product which is still not ready for the market. I see many posts about people experiencing huge stability problems with this mobo.
I'm thinking to RMA the product, cause it's 2 weeks I'm trying to let it work without any success....
What do you guys suggest me to do?
The last thing I can try is bring the system to a pc assistance center where they have spare parts and can perform more accurate tests.
Yesterday I finally got a response from ASUS R&D technical experts, here's what they wrote me:
Dear customer,
we have checked your issue into our labs, and it seems there is no problem:
we don't have same RAMs so I used Corsair DDRIII 1333-1G * 4 & Samsung DDRIII 1333-2G * 4 to test.
Test 1:
Q9450 (C0) & Corsair 1333-1G * 4 Memory OS installation pass,and Aging 3DMark06 3hours PASS,
Test 2:
Q9450(C1) & Samsung 1333-2G * 2 Memory Aging Sleeper 12 hours & 3DMark06 4hours PASS,
Configurations:
MB: P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP
BIOS: 1103
VGA: ASUS-EAH4870/HTDI/512M/A
VGA Driver: Catalyst 8.7(V8.512.0.0)
CPU: Q9450 (Q7UP C0) & (QEGB C1) 2.66G/1333
Memory: Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9DHX 1GB *4 & Samsung M378B5673DZ1-CH9
HDD: Seagate ST3320620AS
OS: Vista 32 bit
Verify if changing the VGA the issue still goes on.
Thanks in advance for any help, it will be more than appreciated and sorry for my poor english and this long post.
Dear kirth,
i was having similar problems. randomly bsod. I solved it by moving my RAM to the orange/Yellow slots instead of the black dimm slots. additionally i used a vista sp 1 integrated dvd to install. mybe it can help.

Thanks Nordstern,
unfortunately neither of those advises worked for me, as stated in my post.
Already tried every slot, moving modules from orange to black.
I've also installed (after so much effort) Vista 32bit SP1. It didn't help.
What manual timings do I have to set my RAM if I want it to run @1066?
(Specs are 1333Mhz, 9-9-9-24-2T, 1.7v)
Thanks
wgat arrogants asus are! that letter is
ed! how can they respond like that, just because something works for them dont mean that is works for you, thats messed up.
So what do you want them to reply phil ? sorry but in our configuration it works and sadly to hear it does not in yours; they clearly stated they don't have the same rams... there's too much hardware floating around that complete testing all different combo's is practically impossible and won't allow them of releasing a product at a competitive launch date... ofcourse I find it sad this board has so many issues but it's a p45/DDR3 issue in general with some IC's...hopefully the bios engineers will find a solution or magical tweak...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree
got my board in! it is revision 1.02G is that the 2nd revision?
no man my point was they should have said "I'm sorry to hear about your problems with your Asus product, we do know this is not an isolated incident. However at this point we do not know ehat you would like us to do in this situation. we have tried it with our setup (different corsair samsung based ram) and it worked fine. Just let us know what you would like to do about this and we will take care of all your issue." instead well ours works so sorry about your luck!
Yes, mine is 1.02G too. Read there are some 1.03G rev out there.
I really hope you'll be more lucky than me.
btw: I'm not worry about the answer, even if the one you suggest is more kind, of course. I'm worry cause I specifically bought a RAM which is on the QVL, it should have been able to work....
anyone have anything to say about the 1201 bios yet? it's back on the asus DL site.
I flashed it on the first day it came out (3rd of August): didn't solve my issues (see some posts above).
mine works good with my ram no issues there but overclocking this thing is a PITA
well I have taken my ram 10 almost 1400mhz with no probs, and I think I'm getting the hang of this board, so soon I'll have a high fsb validation for you guys![]()
Glad to hear it works fine for you!
Still hoping to solve my issues one way or another....
