    AC Accelero S1 Rev2

    Hi.

Thinking of getting the cooler for my HD4870.

Just wondering if everything I need comes with it apart from thermal paste?

Anything that needs messing with the make fit or buying anything else?

Also what thermal paste should I get and is it ok to use Alcohol swab things to clean the thermal paste off of the ram and core?

    Thanks

What are the black clips for? And how will the VRM cooler need abit of help to fit?

Black clips are just support for the cooler to not to bend if pushed inwards,
the Accelero S1 PWM heatsink are longer than the card is to you need to pot an ring on the screw which will be out of the card and tighten it from the outside. so the screw will not be in a hole just kinda out of the card, but it will hold pretty tight. Sadly I don;t have the cards anymore, returned them.

Quick word of advise you need to get a Rev 2 manufactured after may to support the 4850/70 other wise it doesn't come with the proper heat sink for the voltage regs. I learned this the hard way and had to pick up some additional ram sinks.

I'm buying from OcUK, it says Rev.2 on it so hopefully has everything. Still unsure about the VRM bit though, I dont want to smash up my card.

And is alcohol tissue/swab things ok for wiping off thermal paste? I dont want to give my card a dose of stattic.

Use special antistatic gloves , can be bougt for 15$ and will last you for a couple of years. Did it with them and was fine even with my strange VRM cooling method the VRM's were around 75 ~ [ max 85 ] with cooling they went over 100

I'm re thinking buying the cooler now, mainly because I'm happy letting it rev up like hell with the profile on this Asus TOP bios when I have my headphones on and I'm happy with it hitting 80 degrees.

The main reason was I was thinkin maybe it would increase my overclocks but since the Asus TOP Profile keeps it at 60 its unlikely no? 810 max on core and at same time about 930 on the memory, 790/1000 seems ok, nothing more than that works really though.

It's not hard , just don't tighten the VRM screw too much and use a rubber band or something [ i had thick paper rings ]. The GPU part is fairly easy, just be warned the upper two memory modules [ if it goes 1 2 3 4 then its 2 and 3 ] will need to have a low profile heatsing because they won't fit because of the heatpipes

Low profile heatsink? How do I get those? Sounds like I should just chop them in half.

I forgot to get some damnd tape for the ram, gutted.

another way is just to bend the attached heatsinks they are bending pretty easy, chop them off , or leave there the whole bottom part of 4870, because it's made from 3 pieces , take only the board plate attach it back to the card and attach the S1 to the GPU only , but a good airflow would be good to cool the plate too

I have 2 Xsilence 92mm fans to put on it and usually keep the side of the case off, sometimes I have it on.

Do I use thermal paste on the ram?

there is allready an chewing gum there, keep it there if you're staying with the stock plate on the RAMS and VRM's , if no then just stick them there with the thermal paste that's allready on those heatsinks, just put some adhesive on the VRM's , but be carefull if you have an electrical conductive grease , bye bye card.

Adhesive? I dont have any? I have got some AS5, I was told by some people the ramsinks you dont use thermal paste you just stick em straight on as they are.

I think I might remove the plate and use the sinks that come with it, that will probs give better temps on the ram surely.

Ramsinks will hold don;t worry , the AS5 will go on the MOSFET's because the MOSFET chewing gum thing is useless scrathed it off right away

you just need to clean the ICs well before you stick on the ramsinks. I use cotton swab q-tip things dipped in a bit of 90something % isopropyl.

So all I need to put stuff on is the VRM and the core? And the ram chips dont have AS5 put on due to these ramsinks having stick tape right?

The cooler is here with me now. I guess I scratch the stuff off from the bit that goes on the core too then? Where does this weird metal bit go?

Yes the Ramsinks will stick with the sticking tape that's allready there , i wouldnt remove the GPU part because it's MX-2 grase , clean the VRM heatink, big metal plate ? umm I thin'k i don't remmeber , it's an strange L ? Throw it away

Well I have a rough idea what I am doing, I nearly pulled the white thing for the fan plug clean off the board it was that touch, lukilly I managed to push it back down!.

bit scared about cleaning those tiny little VRM chips.

Trying to figure a way to make sure the vrm sink stays on on one side too. Will an elastic band do?

elastic band ? i used screws with rubber ring one in every hole of the VRM heatsink from the bottom upwards so the head of the screw was at the back side of the card and the front screw part was peeking out of the front . So if you looked at the card GPU facing you you saw the front not the head. And it was holding on the place thanks to that rubber ring [ thick paper ring ]

Hmm I really dont understand, either way elastic band and one screw is holding it, had to put extra AS5 on though as it was not touching the VRM.

Anyway got side of case off, currently at 40 degrees, with the side case on its usually like 44 idle and I ran Furmark 1280x1024 4xMSAA full screen for 11mins and it got to 57 degrees with the side case on.

Sounds ok? And it lasts longer at higher overclocked, managed to complete 3 loops of crysis benchmark at 830/1000 so its doing good now I think.
