Just to let you know, i purchased a P5Q3 one week ago, and the physical revision is 1.02G, came with bios version 0611, I bought it with Geil DDR3 1333 CL9, 2X 2Gb.
The board will NOT run this ram at anywhere close to full speed, 1066MHz is stable with rest on auto, can get slightly faster to be stable with higher NB and RAM voltages (1.8V Ram) running at rated RAM speeds. Will not run at 1333 no matter what settings/latency I try. It currently has 1103 BIOS version on it.
Just thought i would let you know for all the guys looking at RMA'ing....the newer boards are definitely not a sure thing.
Also, can anyone tell me whether the Corsair XMS3 2X2Gb 1333 CL 9 RAM uses the micron chips or the Samsung, and what my likelihood is of getting these to work (at a decent speed)? Only have one day left to return it/exchange.

This board is a epic failure.

    yep.

great FSB but PITA to OC and horrible ram support.

they should let us RMA for a rampage extreme.

Dunno guys, I'm not having that many problems with mine besides getting my OC stable, but I think it's just my chip. The ReaperX just plugged in and went at 1333 6-5-5 right away, no problems whatsoever, although before that I had to return some OCZ platinum that I -think- was defective. Pretty happy with the board so far.

Not a failure if you use 2GB RAM. I'm going to contact my Kingston contact and see if I can get a 4GB kit. And test it out.

Eh, and a question: Is it safe to run this NB at ~1.5v bios? I've got a little 40mm fan tied to it, and it doesn't feel all that hot, but I was wondering if it'll degrade over time or something at that voltage. Kinda want to keep this Mobo for a while, you know?

im running crucial ballistix 1600mhz kit 2x1gig's and i cant get anything over 1600mhz to boot to windows no matter what i try. it's not the ram either. i can boot them at ~2100mhz on my p5k3 just fine.

I have the same sticks and they've worked in no board better than they did in the P5K3 (1030MHz 7-7-7 @ 1.90V) so get used to it. In the P5Q3, it takes more voltage and it won't run 1000MHz unless you switch to CAS 8. 7-6-5 is OK til about 980MHz @ 2.10V and 8-6-6 is OK til 1030MHz for me in the P5Q3. BIOS version doesn't seem to make any diff for me.

Different PLs work with different straps/ratios. If you get no POST at all at higher than 1600MHz, set the strap and ratio manually and then try different PLs manually set. I assume you're working at a sane FSB. For anything around 600FSB, I need to keep the mem <1600MHz no matter what, but that's the board, not the mem.

It depends very very heavily on the IC. Charles got his Samsungs to high speeds 7-7-7 easily, around 980 but I don't think he tried much higher, but with D9GTR, we found it impossible to even get 900 remotely stable. It felt like a completely different board with different mem. 860 or so was tops, no matter what. You seem to have D9JNL's, they behave rather differently. SPD might have something to do with it as well. Most people aren't complaining about not being able to break 1000 lol, they're complaining about not even able to make it anywhere near 900, and that's valid depending on the sticks used.

However 833 6-5-5 worked well and ended up being very fast.

True. The only thing that caught my attention was the same sticks and his also flew in the P5K3 (same here). SPD may have something to do with it as far as booting, I definitely had more luck setting at least primaries manually.

Not quite right, I've got 2x1GB DDR3-1600 OCZ sticks, and the only way I can have a stable system is to clock them at 800 MHz... and increase DRAM Voltage to 1.8V.

And I'm not the only one...

Don't know if I should return the RAM or the motherboard...

Is it me or the bios 1201 suddenly vanished from the official site?

They pulled a lot of biosses also for the other P5Q series so I think they did a reset or such on the FTP....
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I don't think it's OCZ, they make great rams and we get good support by Tony, it's the ram chips that the manufacturers use on the Dimms PCB, that my friend is the keyfactor ... Samsungs seem to be the number one choice here for great speeds on this board... I also thought there was another revision (not marked on the PCB) on this board that ran the other Ic's as well ?

wow! does anyone know if this board will handle 2 gb of OCZ gold ddr3 1333mhz @ 9-9-9-24-1t? I have 2gb of the original ocz gold and 2gb of the ocz gold with the newer IC's and the ones with the newer IC's will not post on my maximus extreme but the older IC's will. I kind of want this board but not if it is full of headaches, I'll just get a ddr2 board and stick with my 2gb of mushkin ddr2 1066 @ 5-5-5-18-1T

I'm not having any trouble with DDR3, and people say it's mostly in 2x2gig setups that they're having problems. YMMV, though.

    -Zigosity

EDIT: Well, that may not be true. I had to pump -a lot- of voltage to the NB to get my system stable at 3.6 (450 fsb), which means it might have been the memory crapping out on me. But I'm perfectly happy to run it at 400FSB for 24\7 use and with stock memory clocks, so long as it's stable.

Its nothing to do with Micron or samsung, its to do with dirty signalling on the board. i just tested my 1333EB Micron based kit on the P5E3 Premium 8-8-8-27 1.83V 1800MHZ, rock solid stable yet they struggle to do 1333 on the P5Q3.

Its NOT the ram and its nothing to do with OCZ sucking, its all about the board this time. if you go reading reviews they are all done with 2x1GB modules, if you go read user experience with 2x2GB modules they all suck.

You are better off buying the P5E3 Deluxe X38 over this POS, Asus make good solid boards, this board is a one off for sure, fact is though its VERY bad.

Thought the Samsungs 2 x 2gb worked fine Tony ( recall the BA post )... will await Nehalem prolly before jumping DDR3... was hoping a new rev or bios would resolve the ram issues here... is this a general P45 issue or just this design ?

My Kingstons turned out to be Microns. But it is a 2GB KIT.
I am having more problems getting the system stable with a higher FSB. Its so retarded.
7.5 Multi and 480 FSB. SHould be stable to problem. The NB voltage is 1.38, and the CPU voltage is 1.25. The CPU is stable, but the RAM is not. Orthos runs the CPU good forever. But the RAM test stops early on. What else needs to be changed to get the RAM stable?
When I run x9 Multi and 400 FSB, the RAM is stable at 1600MHz, but not at x7.5 480 FSB and RAM at 1600.

Everything runs lower than it does on a good X48 board, so even if they are sammy based they run lower than you would see on another platform.

Sammy is better, but its only a work around.
