Wow 1.5V for VCore, are you on water cooling? Forgot to mention that I'm on air cooling, I have an OCZ Vendetta 2 using OCZ Freeze TIM. And I thought you were on 516x6, are you more stable at 500x7? I didn't think the quad Kents could go that high.

I was just trying out the board, I run 450x8 or 400x9 depending on which RAM kit is on the rig.

Hi,

I've had a similar problem too.
It seems this mobo (or more likely a buggy BIOS) doesn't like the strap to be manually selected.
If I leave the strap setting on AUTO and select a memory frequency that uses the 400 strap I don't have any problem though.
When I forced the 400 strap my PC refused to boot.

IMHO the P5Q Deluxe BIOS still has a LOT of room for improvement.
Let's hope the guys at ASUS are working hard...

That is the exact same thing that happens to my Q6700! About 1 month ago I tried 400fsb strap and no boot at all. In fact I had to clear my CMOS because I couldn't restart or anything, and then when I did get CMOS cleared and settign restored minus the strap I was no longer stable at my previous setttings so I think I screwed something up somehow, I will never use 400strap again out of fear.

Replaced my e8200 for a new e8500 since the pricedrop made it worthwhile.
And ofc, overclocking directly.

Now, I spent my whole day, trying to adjust, tweak and get it to run Orthos Blend stable, since it didnt run for a minute. Tried everything I could think of, which my brain did well indeed. This forum was great help btw
However, I finnaly nailed the issue,
its fsb/ram instability.
After a day, and some coffe, some curses, and some more, I tried lower the multipel to 8.5, run 500fsb and performance level 12, and then it went trough and did run blend.

Since it worked to run blend, I figure how high I could go? currently 8.5x527fsb and 1.52vcore, I know, its high, but its just testing stuff out.

Scythe Ninja with 2x106cfm fans, temps are in the high 60s under Prime load.

It needs high Vcore but handles well heat, kind of a trade off.

it would depend on the fsb and if youre setting the ddr speed manually or not.
but generally it will set nbs333.

when it comes to any of these P5Q boards, you really wanna keep anything in the bios away from being set to auto.

I have a couple of questions.

Can anyone who has ram that they know is capable of 1200 MHz 5-5-5-15 get it to run at 1200 MHz on this board? I can hit 1125 MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 1.90v (bios) on PL10 and 333 strap orthos/OCCT stable, but 1200 is not happening - I get black screen on boot.

Does anyone know what the southbridge voltage is at when it is set to AUTO? I don't want to fry it so I'm think I will set it t 1.2v as the AUTO and lowest voltage settings (in the case of the SB 1.1v) for all other voltages except vdimm over volt excessively.

You must have the same memory as me. I have heard a few people hitting 1200 with my kit but I have no divider for my current overclock. I am testing 1133mhz 5-5-5-15 1.94v and PL10 right now. I have my FSB strap on auto, the only strap for 1133mhz is 400 and last time I manually set that it crashed on me.

Timbosan, what memory do you have? I just got my set to pass PL10 at 1133 with SRC and MemOC charger. I am going to step down to PL9 and 8 and if those pass I am going for Moderate twister or Light if moderate fails. I run 2 hour OCCT ram tests because I have no working version of Super PI, I have Vista64 and am having trouble getting it to work.

I have TeamXtreem PC8500.

I am using Orthos Large FFT test to test the ram, as well as OCCT. SPI 32M isn't hard enough on the ram to test if it's really 100% stable IMO. Memtest is also a good preliminary test but I cant find my cd. I have foundin the past though that I could pass memtest but fail in Orthos.

I'm dubious about using the 'OC charger' I dont want to burn my ram and I'm unsure if it increases current (drive strength) or what. I have it on AUTO. PL9 for me is no go at 534 FSB & ram 1:1.

What vNB & vDIMM are you using to be stable at 1133 with SRC and OC charger?

I am using NBv1.26 with 1.94 for my Ram. I am almost done testing PL9 it has made it through 1.5hours of OCCT Ram test so far. Hopefully I only have 2 more of these to run.


Edit: @ Leeghoofd, just a hypothetical question here, I am not there yet but which setting would give the best Ram performance PL8/Light or PL9/Moderate??

OK thanks I will try increasing the vNB and see if I can gain some stability. I'm at 534 FSB though so PL10 and SRC at that speed may be pretty hard to get stable. Im not to keen on going over 1.26v (NB) though as the rated max for the P45 chipset is 1.21v. The reason you can run PL9 is that you're at 425 FSB and using a divider for your ram. At 1:1 PL10 is as low as you can go.

Yep, I am using 3:4 divider. I could also run 1066 but if I can run 1133 stable with PL 8 or 9 and Twister set to moderate I will be a very very happy person

Not all boards are the same. Did you flash to the 0803? It might have been your flash wasn't the best and you flashing up wrote over what it might have missed with the 0803.

this board has played quite nice with the E8600 I picked up last week
settled for 4ghz @ 1.21v

some other results are below
didnt get pass 4.7ghz (1.49v) though since my HSF is limiting the system, temps were hitting 79C

4.0ghz @ 1.21v, 24/7 setup


4.5ghz (10x450) @ 1.41v, prime smallFFT 8hrs+


4.6ghz (10x460) @ 1.44v (temps starting to get high so stopped priming after 30mins)
