I install the drivers from the website Mike recommended and It says I don't have compatable hardware. What gives?

yeah, it says that... that's what the modded inf is for...
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...p?showforum=94
for example: lets say I want 177.66 for vista 64... then enter the thread from the link above for your os and driver version desired... dl these 2 files pictured below from the correct thread... put them in separate folders... expand the driver .exe, then drop the separate dl'ed inf in the expanded files before running setup.. then ignore the message, the inf fixes it (or so that was how it was explained to me)... in any case it works... both of my 8800gt's turn full ppd on 177.35 and 177.66 from that linked site...
that's how I did mine... just continue past the message ... and finish the install... just make sure you drop the modded inf in the expanded driver.exe files before running setup.exe
I've tried it on 177.35 vista 64 and xp... and 177.66 vista 64... both worked fine and turned about 4900 ppd on a 8800gt 700/1783/750 after...
anyway, hope that little bit of info helps... that message screwed me up at first too...

The drivers just look at the device ID from the cards BIOS. All the modded INFs are is the normal one with the added device strings for the other cards that it could support.![]()
I'm not that knowledgeable on how it works.... I'm kind of a viedo card n00b since I'm not a gamer...
once gpu2 came along I took a little more interest in the video aspect of the hobby...
but the above process is how I got both of my 8800's going...
this is them on their current wu's now...

ahh.. the mobile... that is gonna need some research... I haven't tried a mobile chip...
Should work with reference drivers but Toshiba probably modded the dev id saying it's a toshiba xxx card not nvidia. Maybe they changed the memory config as well, but fah doesn't care about that much so I think you should be able to get it working without hitches.
2long4u can't you edit toshiba's device id into the inf file yourself? Or give mike or me the device id so we can do it for you? Should make it install atleast.
Device id should show up in hw manager somewhere idk from my head and don't think I'll find the urge to go make you some ss's at 2 at night. And everest shows it and Sandra does to iirc. For my card it's 'pci\ven_10de&dev_0622' ( 9600gt ) and I think I never needed to use the modded inf. So that means afaik, that if you just put in my deviceid it should already run, your hw manager will just report the wrong card is in your system.
Go to the device in device manager. Go to the details tab. The property is Matching Device ID.
Open nv_disp.inf in the extracted NVIDIA drivers folder. I think you only need to add the device string in Localizable Strings like this
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0409.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT"
and in Manufacturer like this
%NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0409.1% = nv_G8x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0409
I know that the first one must be there. Not sure about the second. Try adding the first string and then if it doesn't work add both in those locations. Hope that helps.

Thanks MAK2000 ( even while you weren't helping me you still get the thumbs up from me)

I called a friend and he said he is almost positive you only need the Localizable Strings string as well. You can change the name in the quotes too and make believe you have a GTX 495M I believe as well.![]()
How about 'XS FAH CRUNCHER XXX SSC UberAlphaDog edition'![]()
I wonder if there is a character limit for the string... I don't feel like reinstalling my drivers right now to find out.
2Long4U I have reported this thread to Bruce ( admin@folding forum ) as he said Nvidia will update their official drivers when reports come in off these issues. Idk he doesn't like inf modding but I also don't think he wants to waiste your precious folding time waiting on an update so I got to ask, got it running already?![]()
That's what I understood from Bruce, and it makes sence. They market their mobile gpu's as also CUDA capable ( which they are ) so they should support it to. Problem is if the laptop manufacturer has made changes to the memory subsystem ( which afaik is one of the few changes they can make ) this might require their modified drivers.
Nvidia is obligated to support it I feel, and it looked like Bruce said the same. But as of yet nothing official. Think modding the inf is your best bet, or looking on laptopvideo2go for an inf which is compatible with your model but I think you got a pretty scarce variant and you probably need to add the entry yourself. I haven't modded inf files in a long while, I assumed you only needed the first string not the second one MaK came up with but idk for sure.
Let us know?![]()
I think MaK is best suited to help you, I just woke up 5 minutes ago and are still not supplied with my first![]()
