I am finding my CPU temps are very high.
On a hot day 30C my idle Temp is 59C
At night when it is cooler it is at 53C
I checked to see if the CPU block is mounted correct, and it looks good.
I am using AS5. If I did not put enough on would that cause high temps.
I for sure do not have to much on.
I ran pump,rad,CPU,res.
The rad is mounted at the back on the out side of the case.
My system is not overclocked.

My Zalman 9700 LED did a better job cooling.

59c idle is way too hot.

Try remounting.

Whats fans are you using?

Actually when applying thermal paste you want just enough to make contact and fill in some of the imperfections of the surface. If reseating the block doesn't work there are a few other things to take into consideration.
But mostly alot of e8400s are known to have inaccurate temperature probes.
You should test against your Zalman heatsink. Is your pump turned up high enough? Fan's etc. What does it take to register an improvement?

I have 2 120 fans on the rad. One 120 on the back air going out, one 120 on top air going out, 2 90's in front air going in, one 240 on the side air going in.
The rad is mount at the back, outside of the case.
My pump is pumping 3100 RPM.
My 9700 LED would idle around 49C.
I will remove and clean off the paste and redo it again.

Yeah, I think its a TIM or Mount issue. Btw my e8400 idles at 42 regardless of where it's clocked. Load has been as much as 55c @ 4.2ghz (1.27v) But this is with a gasp koolance 1000w (BS) pc4-1025kit. With the pump turned down all the way.
Btw How noisy is your pump when its mounted to the w/b?

I have to remove the side pannel and touch the pump to even see if it running or or look at the res to see if there is a good flow.
So I do not hear the pump when runing at 3100 RPM.

Say I remove the cpu block and reapplied the AS5. Mounting is flush. Temp is now 51C vs 53C. In my bios temp show to be 46C. Room temp is 25C, amb is 41C.

hmm why do you have "Room temp is 25C, amb is 41C" ?? what really is your ambient...

Ambient is inside the case I think? He has two g80's slid and overclocked so if the radiator is using the same air.. that would cause higher temps.

does sitting fans in front and behind the radiator (blowing and sucking air) make a difference versus just pulling air through OR pushing air through??

I have always put my fans pulling air through my radiator and I have nice low temps also

re-mount that sucker and check everything out

I am getting my amb temp from a temp probe right now, it is at 29C.
Sorry not 41C.
My temp in bios is at 46C, no overclocking.
I turned my GPU's to stock speed and have the fan's at 100%.
I did change my fsb to 400 from 333. The temp jumped to 56C and with the fsb at 450 temp jumped to 57C-58C. Now back to 333 FSB.
Is my cpu reading the correct temp or could this be wrong?
Lowest temp I ever got was 47C stock settings in the winter and a zalman 9700 LED.
I will change the fans on the rad to suck vs pushing.

I still question the quality of this cpu water block.

Do NOT trust the temp probes on your E8400. One of my systems has an E8400 and I use four different programs to get four different temp readings. Also while mine says 42C in bios, it feels cool to the touch with a high end water system.

What does Real temp say?

Well I did so big changes to my system.
I am running a new MB.
Here are my temps. Asus probe is 29C, real temp is 42, core temp is 53.
This is running at 3.6 on the CPU. The cpu block is on flush and AS5 is a very thin layer, just how it should be.
I find on hot days my temps are very high, very poor air movement in the room and on A/C in the house. On cooler days temps drop alot, real temp was 35 and core temp was at mid 40's to 39. A portable A/C maybe needed to blow cool air in the back where the rad is.

One thing that might also be affecting your temps is a concave heat spreader on the cpu.

I was testing an E8400 on my water cooled system and I noticed it's temps were considerably higher at stock clocks and voltage than even my over clocked E6400.

After a couple of block resets without change I noticed that the cpu's heat spreader had placed four smiles in the corners of my Fuzion. Also the thermal material was thickest in the middle of the heat spreader.

I have seen this before just not this bad, I had to do a considerable amount of lapping on the water block to remove those smiles.

Your may have to either bow your block/pump assembly (if even possible) or lap your cpu's heat spreader to bring those temps down.
Unfortunately I can't tell you if lapping would have helped in my case as I no longer have the E8400 but it is something to consider.
