Just installed my board last night and the onboard audio seems to work well?

Running everything at stock atm so will report back if the sound goes bad after overclocking alot.

One thing I remember from older boards is that if the SB (SouthBridge) overheats this can cause onboard sound issues. Is your board running nice and cool and does the SB feel hot?

Comparison between P35/45 and X38 and 48, al by all P45 does prety well...

    Complete different results than Tweaktown
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    P5Q / bios 1004

im seeing some odd 3d performance bugs above 500fsb.

certain fsb are just plain slow, while others arent. dont take it for granted youre going faster, check with a 3d benchmark. it seems like its a PCI-E frequency (bios) bug.

Tried playing with PCI-E freq, some users get better results with 100, some with 103,...

Does anyone know much about this EPU Engine 6 thing? is it a gimmick or some kinda advanced speedstep for the whole system? I didn't install the drivers for it yet as I'm still getting to grips with the basics.

    yes, i tried 101, 103, & 110, no difference.

can anyone verify that the PCI-E lock/adjustment is actually working above 500fsb?
by the way my results are falling off, and then coming back up, it seems like its not working.

You shouldn't install it if you intend to OC your system.
The EPU engine will only work at stock/default configurations.
I think we can call it a kind of SpeedStep technology but for several components inside your PC, not only the CPU.
It's goal is to save energy, and obviously that's incompatible with OC'ing.

Let me know how your new board makes out. It's something I've considered myself (RMA'ing the board). I'm past my RMA from the retailer. Did you go through ASUS?
I didn't RMA it, I ordered a new board. (I didn't have the time to wait for an RMA)

The old board is now in my HTPC, it turned out to be the memory sticks that caused my issues, as soon as I installed the Mushkins everything was back to normal.

What is a safe voltage for the NB on the stock cooling? I just failed a prime 95 blend after 29 hours ... 475 bus, cpu at 3.55 (it passed 72 hours of prime95 @ 3.64... ) Ram under 1000, it's corsair dominator 8500 so i know it wasn't the ram. I had NB at 1.36... is it safe to go much higher?

Ever heard of "EDIT" button? If first BIOS chip goes really bad you'd have to re-flash it on each boot. There is option to physicaly swap the chips just be careful not to screw both of them...

Please do me a favor and read my question again. I asked:" How a person would know if one of the bios chips died?" I didn't ask what happens if chip dies, which is stated in the manual.

As far as I know, AHCI/IDE has nothing to do with Overclocking, and will not interfere with it. However, if you have SATA hard drives, definately use AHCI. There is no point using IDE with SATA. Just remember to enable the AHCI registry key in Windows before turning on AHCI otherwise your PC won't boot properly. If you don't know how to, let me know and I'll give you the steps.

You know, I've been asking this around myself but I didn't get a straight answer. And now that I think of it - I've had EPU Engine 6 installed & enabled all this time & i've been having OC'ing issues. Thanks for this info. I'll uninstall the EPU Engine software as soon as I get home today. Do I need to turn it off anywhere else as well? Or just that software/driver thing that comes in ASUS CD?

    Thanks!

    @ rusty:

How to enable AHCI Drivers in Windows Vista before changing the SATA mode of the boot drive from IDE to AHCI

    1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
    2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci
    5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
    7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

Reboot, go into BIOS and switch to AHCI for your SATA. Thereafter you should be good to go.

    You're pretty welcome, LUCI5R!

From what I've learned, the EPU engine is only enabled via driver and software in your O.S.
AFAIK there is no EPU option in the BIOS.
In order to turn it off I suppose uninstalling the software should be enough.
I've downloaded the latest version from the Asus support website, but it didn't last more than 2 days on my PC.
Now I don't have any kind of problem that I can relate to it.

    Best regards,
    Miguel

One thing doesn't go together. High end overclocker motherboard and some power saving feature that only works when running CPU stock. Isn't that kinda ironic?
Would be better not to waste resources on useless EPU6 feature and use digital PWM instead or something more useful...

Also can someone check if this scren looks right...

I'm using AHCI but all i see are IDE devices, one HDD is runing in PIO mode (WTF!?), second one in multiword DMA 2 and i'm not sure what happened to actual IDE DVD burner khm... Last time i was suing SATA on 965P-DS3 there were only ATA devices, SATA controller driver and all devices were running in DMA mode.
Looks totally weird and i'm kinda alergic to PIO. And i can't get rid of it.

    Hi fellas,

Did anyone try max fsb with 45nm cpu on P5Q pro air? I'm stuck at ~525fsb for spi 1m and ~620 for validation, huge difference I know. I'm not a OC noob and I try 3(506, 901, 1004) different bios and play with lot off bios settings and result is always same, can't go over 525 for spi 1m.
Off course cpu and mem are capable for 600+ fsb.
So did anyone of you guys try max fsb with 45nm cpu?
And another weird thing is on all 3 bios that I try, it happend often that when I save bios settings and go for save and exit, it want boot and do clear cmos, and when is boot again I get default settings for all bios options??? it's happend at 500-510 fsb.

    Thanks!
    Team Serbia

Yeah my board does the same, but after i flashed back-up bios to 803(by swapping the chips in thier slots) it does it far less often, when FSB volts are too low.
